man mundy I feel your pain, out of 6 dna40's I have one good one :( I've been holding off on sending them back in hopes of the smoke clearing and getting a latest revision returned, now with the holidays coming I may not even send them back till after the new year, i hate shipping anything around this time of year

Now that sux turbo! Got to get a Gdeal wood version put together for pdib to make the wood shell for around the first of the year so I did just order another board. I finally found a place that said they are only shipping the newer(est?) board with the F & C options. Several others that had it in stock didn't know what version board I would get. Wish me luck, and I will see if I get it or the RMA first.

Nice Mundy... I suppose you will make a mundy's magic with ribbon NI200? :D

That's the plan, assuming I can carry it out.

Table top paper cutter? I used to use one very similar to this when I worked with aluminum and galvanized. The blades hold up remarkably well as long as you don't go crazy on the thickness.

Yea, I have one (Not that nice) that I tried, but it tapered the cut. I am thinking about making a clamp for it sort of like a sheet metal brake to hold the NI200 firmly in place right at the cutting blade. I will probably have to anneal it afterwards to soften it up as it seems fairly stiff compared to the round stuff I have and even Kanthal ribbon so I assume it is tempered or work hardened by the rollers flattening it.

Hmph. I can see now how that could be a problem, especially given the width you are trying to get on a cut.
Is the material soft enough for a cut with a straightedge and razor? Maybe it would take a few passes but at least you could clamp it to the edge of your bench to get some leverage on the blade...
Not really a high-output form of production, but it has worked for me in a pinch.

Got a moment to twist up some 34 gauge NI200 hybrid MM. It is not perfect, as the NI200 looped out in a couple of places and I couldn't pull it out of the loops. Also, the Kanthal loops aren't opening up good. Here is a pic of what I am talking about:

Here is a chart of the mathematical conversion from set temp to actual:

Wrapped a .13 ohm coil on 1/16 and it vapes tasty set at 350F, but I am getting what I presume is a nic buzz really quick. Buzz in the back of the head, sweaty feeling, kinda sick at the stomach. Used to get the exact same feeling when I hadn't ate in a long time and was smoking heavy. I got the same reaction from the 32 gauge hybrid MM. I dry burnt both coils red hot multiple times off temp mode to get an even inside out glow so I wouldn't think there would be residual oils and I don't taste anything funny. Back on temp mode without wick or juice there were no signs of any hot spots and it went into temp protection real quick. I will have to mix up some 0 nic to see for sure. Am I on the right track with what I described as being a nic buzz? Anyone else get this kind of reaction from NI200? I'm in uncharted territory for myself. I've never tried nichrome so I don't know if it could be a reaction to the nickle or not. I feel like my new avatar Bill the Cat looks.

Forgive my ignorance but I have searched for this Mundy's Magic wire and have not found it for sale...so

It is referring to the individual "twisting" of kanthal in a certain way (as described here) and actually not for sale as an end product? If so I will give this a go but if I'm missing the order form...please point me in the right direction!

Sorry but I r confused...lol

You gotta make it yourself :) Mundy has an excellent 3 part video showing how it's done near the start of this thread

For me nic buzz is exactly what you described. YMMV.

Interesting that it only happened initially. It has not happened since. Makes me wonder if there wasn't some left over something from production still on the NI200. Next time I'll be a little more through and clean it with alcohol before I wrap and dry burn.

Yep watched those! Ok, now I understand :)

Just wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something :D

Note that I now back wrap by hand instead of drill thanks to Xobeloot. Makes a cleaner and more consistent backwrap. One of these days I will make a new video now that I am 50 pounds lighter. :p

Only Nickel sensitivity symptoms I've ever heard of are of the sore throat variety. I didn't research it too crazy much (back when we were initially playing with the René); but that's all I could find. That, and that smoking can cause or exacerbate Nickel sensitivity, and that it doesn't go away after one quits.

I could have had some made for over 4 digits! Didn't need 10KG (how many ever thousand feet that would be) especially without knowing if the same dimensions would be optimum or not. Got an idea for accurately cutting the .05 MM sheet of NI200 I have. I have an old XY plotter (couldn't bear to get rid of something that costs 4 digits originally even if it is only worth scrap metal price now days) that I looked up the specs for. It has .1 MM steps so I'm thinking about rigging up a round blade cutter in place of the pen holder and running it back and forth till it cuts then jogging it 6 times (for first test at .6 MM) on the other axis and doing it again. Just need the time to do it.

if you're doing your 3-strand reverse twist with a drill (very low speed), and tensioning the other end by hand (I hold with hemostats), you can feel the strand getting longer for a while, and then, just as it starts to pull in (to want to shorten), stop. At this point you can give just the short section you want to use for a coil a few twists with your fingers. This is just my own method, don't know if it reflects the true Platonic Geometry (but it works).
