Have you tried ECF2 (skin)? Some of the skins haven't been updated in some time.
Oh, oh ... perhaps you've revealed some ignorance on my part. I thought you were talking about Firefox skins. ECF has skins?

I am aware of the display modes available at the bottom (Kirsch, Blackend Red, etc.) ... hard to imagine these might be relevant though.

could be the skins. Have you logged out completely, then logged in again, then tried to change some of the settings?

Under misc. options, enhanced interface, full WYSIWIG is checked right? Uncheck it, then log out. then log back in and check it again.

If I understand, you are not getting carrige returns, instead you are getting a "wall of text" without paragraphs, as if you never used the Enter key, right?

Log out, then log in again, go thru you settings.

But tell me, does this work: Hold down the Shift key, then press Enter. Tell me if paragraphs appear when doing that.

Another question, when you are IN the editing window, and you press Enter, do you *see* a paragraph break?

And then it goes away once you click Submit?

What about if you hand-code the html paragraph marks (<p></p>) --- will THAT give you paragraphs?

Yes, Ocelot for some reason the logging in / logging out clears the cookies, etc. and seems to help. I once did have a a problem on a forum that I could not fix, and the programmer just had to burn my account and make me a brand new one.

I use
Firefox
and this has
never
been
a
problem.

...

If it's happening in all browsers it has to be either an operating system setting or something in your ECF settings. It has to be something specific to your setup - somewhere - because it isn't being presented by other ECF users. With the exception of the new "feature" added into Internet Explorer 10 which is causing problems with forum sites that use PHP - like this one.

Lemme go look at ECF setting options again.

No problems with Safari either.

...there is no cute Image box, nor any other formatting shown on my posting window. Also, I am not allowed to embed videos...

I read the above, but I can't tell from your first post if you get any editing buttons at all. I just tried all of the different options. In "Basic" I get no buttons at all, not even a toolbar above my reply box. In both "Standard" and "Enhanced," I get all the buttons.

You may be a wizard, in that I've never delved that deeply into the interface. But, I find there that I have selected Full WYSIWYG editing, which I have to assume is the default. I'm going to try the "Standard Editor". The question remains, why would this be necessary? I've been on ECF for years, this wasn't an issue previously. (line feed, paragraph) I'll report back.

EDIT: at least in the sandbox, I got paragraphs. That's an improvement. Still, no formatting keys though.

Post EDIT; paragraphs here too! Yeee Haw. Now, where are my formatting options? I'd like to BOLD Yeee Haw, dagnabitt.

If you switched to "standard" text editor the formatting options are available in that mode. Most of the standard formatting - bold/italic/underline, font size and color, smileys etc etc. If you hit the "Go Advanced" button - right under the box I'm composing this in right now - that gives you the expanded formatting set.

So either there is something really, REALLY oddball going on here where the entire bar of icons is missing when you compose a reply or a new message. Or your internet connection is messing up and the ECF page loads are stopping incomplete before those icons get loaded. I'm betting right now that you are having an internet connection problem. Have you reset your internet hardware lately?

ECF code has been upgraded and changed a lot over the years. It's entirely possible that the current WYSIWYG interface on ECF no longer works well with your versions of your browsers or your operating system. Thus the need to change your settings to Standard text interface instead now.

Hi NCC,

It's good to see you!

since i probably ought to offer more than just a simple hello, my suggestion would be to change your ECF skin and put your settings back to using the enhanced editor with full WYSIWYG...some of the ECF skins are no longer supported. (though it's hard to believe that could affect anything, after the last big upgrade i do remember some skins having different options than others)

Selecting "Advanced" goes right back to the WYSIWYG editor which puts the OP right back in the original issue of not being able format properly.

OP, aside from using Firefox, what version is it? What security software are you using on the machine and what OS are you using?
