Selecting "Advanced" goes right back to the WYSIWYG editor which puts the OP right back in the original issue of not being able format properly.

Not quite. If you select standard mode in your settings, and then select Go Advanced button while composing, it's not operating in real WYSIWYG mode. You have to hit Preview Post to see any ...WYG from there on. They got the <CR> problem fixed when their default user setting was changed from Advanced to Standard mode.

well, I disabled javascript in my firefox browser here, and I'm pretty sure I'm having the issue you are describing now. I do not like the world without javascript. It is a sad world indeed. Testing one of those smileys that I still do see down below --> clicking it had no effect whatsoever. I have also hit enter a number of times, like now, ready? How was that? Anyway, I'm going to go turn javascript back on now because I am getting very very sad without it. Perhaps this will help a little on your side, make sure you have javascript enabled I guess. Good luck.

Alright, I'm back now. :) <-- there should be a smiley face there. I'm going to hit enter, with crossed fingers so bear with me here...

I hit it twice for good measure. Any effect?

The little bar of fun stuff is back above this quick reply box. Going advanced, cover me!

Yup, looks good now that I've turned javascript back on.

On firefox, click the orange firefox word top left corner.
On the right side of the drop down --> options --> options
In options, go to Content
In Content, make sure "Enable javascript has a checkmark next to it."

If that doesn't help, there may be an over-riding setting in windows somewhere to disable javascript. Can't remember now but I think I remember seeing something like that.

Good luck! :vapor:

I see the discussion has continued after I hit the sheets, after I made Post #30.

I'll go back and respond to whatever seems to need a response. I have already (just now) Logged OFF/Rebooted the computer/Logged back ON, as suggested. I also notice there's been a Firefox update since the last time I closed the browser and ... I unplugged MagicJack before rebooting. For quite some time now their software has been reporting a Java error upon boot up.

Ta Dah!!! I have at least some of the formatting features in the entry window! This post will answer some questions.

That looks like bolding in the preview. Exciting, heh.

How about a picture?

A video?

Looks very promising. Now, I am wondering if this whole problem may be related to the MagicJack or Java. Odd that I haven't experienced anything similar on two other forums I participate in. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Posting now, then reboot with MagicJack plugged in. BRB, with maybe some replies to earlier posts, if necessary.

could be the skins. Have you logged out completely, then logged in again, then tried to change some of the settings?
<snip>
If I understand, you are not getting carrige returns, instead you are getting a "wall of text" without paragraphs, as if you never used the Enter key, right?
Correct, that was the case.
I was thinking about the log out/log back in too.
I did that after y'all suggested it. I hadn't actually logged out of ECF in (conservatively) months. The problem apparently fixed now (fingers crossed), but not totally sure if it was the log out/log in, an update in Firefox, rebooting Magicjack and the OS, or what ...
Another question, when you are IN the editing window, and you press Enter, do you *see* a paragraph break?

And then it goes away once you click Submit?
That is correct.
What about if you hand-code the html paragraph marks (<p></p>) --- will THAT give you paragraphs?
I didn't try that.
I use
Firefox
and this has
never
been
a
problem.
Jezzz, Firefox folks can be just as bad as Apple snobs sometimes (j/k). I've been using Firefox since it replaced Netscape. Remember Netscape? I still use Composer for some HTML.
I can't tell from your first post if you get any editing buttons at all. I just tried all of the different options. In "Basic" I get no buttons at all, not even a toolbar above my reply box. In both "Standard" and "Enhanced," I get all the buttons.
I wasn't getting the formatting options in any mode. They're back!
Hi NCC,

It's good to see you!
Hi CES, good to see you too, LTNS.

What device are you using? Desk top, lap top, phone, etc.?
I'm using a desktop running Win7HP SP1, 12GB RAM. Firefox 23.0.1

It may be a Java issue, or a number of other things I fiddled with. Things appear for the moment to be normal (fingers crossed). The bad part is, if it is 'fixed', I can't really pinpoint the cure.

Thanks to all who have helped me, and likely someone else may be helped with this issue too thanks to your efforts.

It may be a Java issue

Glad you're up and running again.

I log in and out once in a while to kind of re-set things, cured a few problems I was having.

Keeping Java updated is important......noticed when I don't apply the patches a whole lot of things at other forums and sites don't work either.

Good luck going forward!

You do realize that generally, you really don't need to have java installed on your computer, or even have it active in your browser. If you use applications that rely on Java, then yes, you do need it, but for the vast majority of Internet users, it's not needed at all and you can safely remove it from your computer.

I'm actually a little foggy in regard to Java. May be time for some research.

I know it bugs me to install updates way too often.

OP, aside from using Firefox, what version is it? What security software are you using on the machine and what OS are you using?
Currently Firefox 25.0.1
Comcast provided Norton
Win7 Home Premium service pack 1

The problem seemed resolved in post #46.

I love ocelots. Once, as a youngun, I saw one for sale at a department store. Twas before they became endangered, and I think I've seen that they have been removed from the list now. Still, probably not a wise choice for a pet though.
