Tomkatt mentioned them in my thread in the modders' forum--looked them up on eBay immediately--I have two on the way, expected delivery date Wednesday or Thursday. Since the danged thing went about three hours today before developing exactly the same issue, Ima just hang it up. Gonna gut the thing, see if I can scrape the epoxy out, and maybe rebuild it with one of those boards.

I did happen to get pictures of it with the mini-tank sitting on top though:

Butterfly Bait feeding from a tank into a dual-coil cartomizer at 4.98 volts is TEH AWESOME!

Thanks. It will work again. I've compleatly gutted it and will start from scratch when the new vv buck boards come in. By then I should have my metal 4amp 36vdc switches in, so I will probably use one of them. And when I get it all back together and working more than 24 hours, I will have a contest here to name it.

So here's a sneak-preview heads-up: be thinking of a name for a dual-18650 variable voltage mod that committed seppuku, was rebuilt from its own corpse, died again, and then had the old body stuffed with all new guts.

Is it parallel to the board, then? The pot on the MadVapes kit is perpendicular if mounted. That's what makes it awkward...

Do you have the diagram? PM it to me if convenient. I would like to get a look. If this has now happened a second time with a 3 amp rated switch, then something is pushing/pulling hard current through the switch. Probably a defective reg or a ground short that shouldn't be there caused from the original burnout. Change the reg out and the switch if this one is also burnt. Add a piece of clad pcb (or "peeled") or drill a hole in a penny and tack it to the heatsink.

Heat breakdown issues on the vv mods from MV...

This doesn't exactly qualify for seppuku cuz you gutted it. LOL!! Otherwise it would be harakiri.

So my choice is Frankenvaper. (Seppuku Vapenstein?)

The only diagram I have is the info on MadVapes' site. I just threw all the internals away. I'd had to solder/desolder/resolder/desolder/resolder a couple spots on the board, so I figured it was possible I'd hosed the internal traces during those processes (the board didn't get burnt, but it did have a couple dark spots when I was finally done). Also, I'd chosen not to slip a copper strip between the chip and the board, even though I'd done it on the first (still unfinished) vv project I started. Also the finished board itself was encased in silicone and silicone epoxy. Taking it compleatly apart and starting over would not have been worth it to me, and I'm pretty sure it would not have been possible for me.

I would have just ordered another vv board kit from MadVapes, but after Tomkatt turned me on to those pre-built buck boards, that are cheaper than MadVapes' kit, I just decided to go that way. They'll be here at the end of the week, so we can go through all this again over the weekend ;)

The reason I was looking for a contest to name it was because all I could think of to name it involved "Franken-something" and I've got to many of those around already (the resurrected Ultra10 upstairs is FrankenSparc, the compy my daughter is using is Frankenbox [because it's been rebuilt so many times, and it's such a pastiche of parts--it even has a car-type cigarette lighter and a pop-out cup holder in one of the full sized bays ] and the PS2 I rebuilt from three trashed ones is Frankengamer, &c.). I was trying to think of something zombie-related, but frankly I'm not very creative.

Anyway, please hold suggestions for now. I want to wait until it is finished because it will look radically different than it did--for one thing, the stainless steel switch (which did come in today) is similar to many in use on various mods but is a design I've not seen used before. I'm thinking that the final design might influence name choices, and I'd really hate for someone with a cool name here lose it when someone saw it and posted it first in the contest thread...
