My thoughts exactly, UG.

UG, I have a Gibson Studio Gold Les Paul that I love. I used to jam with some of the garage bands that I had play in my CD store. It was good for my business. What brand and style of guitar do you have?

Rob did you fall on your .... sledding today...lol?

Rob, by the way, no credit has come thru on my CC from you from today........just a reminder.

I also have a Fender G7 Acoustic......cheap acoustic but it really has good sound and I had it professionally set-up. My grandsons try to play it when they come to my house. Acoustics are too much work for an old lady.......lol........electric is so much easier. I had a Fender Strat but gave it to my niece when she went off to college. My daughter bought one of those 3/4 cheap accoustic guitars and wanted me to start teaching my grandsons to play (I have 4 grandsons, all 5 and under)........yeah right...lol......most certainly that is not the guitar to teach them on.

btw, the thread title is a good song by radiohead

Yeah it is. I used to play, wouldn't call myself a good guitarist, but played well enough to be in a couple of bands about 10+ years ago. I was always a fan of Ibanez guitars. Didn't really match my style of music, most people think Ibanez and think metal.

My first guitar was a Roadstar II, made back in the 80's. It was soooo easy to play, I loved it. The action was incredible. Had some weird pickups, kinda like a cross between lipstick and standard single coils. Interesting sounding guitar.

I've still got a cheap Alvarez acoustic I'll flub chords on now and again, but don't play much anymore.

Funny, another guitar player here :) I've got an old Gibson ES-335 (no pics now, I'm away for the holidays). It's my baby.. I'm from NY, found it when I was on vacation in San Francisco at this vintage guitar shop and had to have them ship it back to me immediately! Never done anything like that for a guitar before, or since.

I tried to learn at 45 years old. I couldn't get my wrist and fingers to contort enough to sound any good. :(

I would recommend anyone at any age learning to play guitar,

Start with an acoustic, nothing but true guitar sound and feedback (including self feedback)
You can control everything and know what is going on and improvement.

After getting down some basic plucking single notes and a strumming pattern, learn the open chords.
Once learning open chords, switch to electric. This where you can get silly and start to rip it up. Perform power chords and then understand minor and sharp. Crank into pedals and the works.

Acoustic is harder to play, but easier to learn on.
Electric is easier to play, and easier on the fingers,
but it can be very challenging to get proper finger placement.

The acoustic strings are generally spaced further apart to allow
minor flaws and larger fingerprints.

The electric seems to be a little more sensitive to mistakes,
unless of course you have major reverb, distortion and/or feedback
going on. Kinda for advanced players.

Practice makes perfect, Native. Keep at it and it will come. Took me forever to learn the keyboard. Hardly play it at all anymore.

I don't play alot anymore. I have my keyboard and electric guitar and amp set up in my studio room.....1 easel for oils and acrylics........one drafting table for drawing, water colors and gouache. I have one twin bed I have turned into a couch of sorts. Sometimes I paint late, and I sleep in there. I do not have a computer in there as it is too distracting for me. I have taken a 30 day break from painting to record ideas and do quick sketches. First of the year, not much computer anymore.........my creations begin. The guitar is my comfort. I clear my head when I fuss with it. I do need to put on some new strings, though.
