exactly. I used to have a gf tell me I would be a jerk towards people and get agitated easily when I didn't have my nicotine... I think its the other way around, my nicotine is the only thing that keeps me from getting agitated when dealing with idiots every day :)

For me it goes beyond mood.
No nicotine creates a situation where I'm more likely to get cancer. Or I can go on drugs that can cause different cancer. Or I can have surgery which removes the problem but can create other problems that can cause more surgeries or even death (death risk in addition to the normal risk of having surgeries).

So if nicotine can help a drug who's big risk is limited to kidney failure work 50% better I'd say that for now nicotine is good for me.

oh dang, yeah dude, use that nic!! gotta say, some people use caffeine like my mom to get that "jump start" in the morning. for me its that nicotine! I get in my care on the way to work everyday, and have my first vape. I always get a little agitated in the morning about something, but I always look forward to those first couple car puffs that make me feel oh so good again, and make everything hunky dorey again

edit: best way I can describe that feeling I get, is an actual mind set change. as soon as I get that nicotine my minset changes and im all happy again

No desire here to quit. People at work don't understand why I spend so much money on vaping, but I don't understand spending money on some of the things they do. It's a hobby to me, and I love it. This has put years back on my life, and I love it. I love tinkering with my setups and I love learning new things about them. Maybe one day I guess, but it's never really crossed my mind to quit like quitting analogs did everyday.

That's probably not what he was referring to. People get agitated when they cut out a substance they are addicted to. Consequently, consuming that substance will dissipate the agitation. I think he was referring to medical advantages to nicotine, or simply stating that moderate intake of nicotine isn't "bad" for us.

Lying to myself???
Did you not bother reading anything I posted? Do you think I got off nicotine and went back on it at higher levels than I quit with for the joy of it?
Ulcerative colitis in smokers, non-smokers and ex-smokers
Nicotine treatment for ulcerative colitis

Tell me all about those ANTZ propaganda "facts" you're so sure of. Long-term effects of inhaled nicotine. [Life Sci. 1996] - PubMed - NCBI

I'm all for you getting off nicotine, I'll even offer you some tips if you want. But don't tell me I'm lying about a disease that I and many others around here have and found out about when we quit smoking.
Maybe if you're lucky you'll get off nicotine and won't get diagnosed with a chronic incurable disease that the nicotine was helping. But I have to say it would be karma in action if you did.

I might quit vaping, but I'm not going to quit nicotine.
The thing is, vaping is the most enjoyable way to continue using nicotine.

So yeah, not going to quit vaping as far as I can see.

It isn't really so much the fact that nicotine improves memory, concentration and attention.
It's more the idea that it can help stave off Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

I often don't start vaping until after work these days.
That is when I unwind with a glass or two of wine, or a beer or two or three.

As long as I'm drinking I'll either be vaping or smoking.
And as long as I'm unwinding I'll either be vaping or smoking.

And as long as I feel that nicotine is very beneficial in moderation, I'll either be vaping or smoking.
And as long as vaping remains a viable solution, it will be vaping, not smoking.
;)

Thank you Myk and DC2 for bringing up some the medical benefits of nicotine. :) Read somewhere that nicotine is actually very difficult to become addicted to, but you can! WHY did and WHAT did the tobacco companies feel the need to ADD other chemicals to their tobacco?

Having taken care of a 94 yr old NON smoking father in law for the last 10 yrs of his life and seeing the decline of his mental facilities even before it hit the critical point AND being on the downhill side of my life's journey, think I'll continue vaping WITH nicotine. Taking those medications for Alzheimers have some serious side effects!

I have no desire to do so, either. I never planned to quite smoking. It was my hobby. Now this is my hobby. I didn't switch for health reasons. I switched because I liked it more than smoking. Don't get me wrong. It's a seemingly less deadly option according to what studies we have thus far, and that's pretty awesome, but it's just icing on the cake to me.

Now that's where i differ slightly, i did drop the stinkies for medical reasons but like you i've got no intention of stopping the vape train at all :) love vaping too much to drop it

Well you initially said "nicotine is bad for us." Dangerous ground to tell other people what's bad for them. Slightly different statement to say "isn't healthy" - although that's a relative statement. Let's don't have a discussion where you invite me to discuss what you should quit doing because it isn't "healthy."

Some of us, for whatever reason, really do function better with nicotine. By the time I am fully off nicotine, I'm on at least 2 prescriptions for anxiety related issues. Some of that is helped by good lifestyle choices but I don't believe that xanax is part of a healthy breakfast. If you wanna know about some terrible addictions read up on anxiolytic medications, or what it sometimes takes to wean oneself off of SSRIs.

Some would argue "Oh, those symptoms are just withdrawal" but I don't think so. Withdrawal that lasts for months and months and basically cripples you into needing prescription drugs is not "just withdrawal." I hear this from people who are still absolute jerkwads and basket cases, even years after quitting cold turkey. Usually as consternation that I should do the same and be like them. I think they are the ones in denial. They seem to feel empowered by the fact that they refuse treatment for their own apparent chemical imbalance.

I think I'll just stick to my nicotine, thanks. Cheaper, safer, no side effects, no prescription needed, keeps me on an even keel :)
