anyone 'occasionally' smoke a cigarette but don't go further than that?

I hate to admit, even though I've been smoke free for a year and a half, I still OCCASIONALLY smoke a cigarette. I vaped for 3 years before making a more 'permanent' switch, in the sense that I pretty much almost never smoke and don't buy cigarettes and refuse cigarettes when offered to me. But it's hard... a lot of my friends smoke and I work at a busy bar where smoking is allowed inside and boy oh boy do people smoke there. I'm always toting around my e-cig and I have converted a few friends, but every now and then when I am drunk, my friend will pass me their cig or offer me one and I will accept it. I usually don't but sometimes I do. I'm not sure why. I guess the alcohol but at the same time, I don't even really want it but I just take a puff or two and give it back, and sometimes when I am really drunk, I will smoke a whole one. And I don't even like it. But I still do. It's still better than how much I used to smoke, although I was always a light smoker, but I guess sometimes I just feel like it. Anyone else 'cheat' every once in a while? I even feel a little guilty but I tell myself its no big deal, I will never go back to smoking full time/only and enjoy vaping a lot more. I am a little irritated that my friends who pass me a cig know that I've quit but for some reason, I also kinda feel like they think my vaping is pretentious and that I secretly want to smoke, which I don't. I guess I just can't say no sometime?

I will smoke a normal cig every so often. Theres a girl at work who smokes what I used to smoke, and ill give her a buck for one every now and then. One or two a week is a hell of alot better than smoking 20 of them a day.

Dont feel too bad, guilt is the response that our brains naturally make us feel when we think we are doing something wrong. This is amplified when we hold ourselves to a higher standard, especially after quitting a gross habit.

All things in moderation and you should feel just fine(in all ways), I know I do.

I wouldn't feel bad about it. People who call themselves non-smokers smoke the occasional cigar. Also, most people fall back on old behaviors when uninhibited like when drinking or when stressed even when they don't like them and wouldn't normally. I would feel bad about "friends" thinking I was pretentious vaping and were "testing" me when that vulnerable though. Why don't they do it when you're not under the influence? or do they? Maybe I misunderstood and they think they're just being courteous? If not, I think I would prepare and recite a phrase so it would come naturally even when having had too much to drink.... something like "Ya know, you're starting to act a lot like a pusher."

I have one occasionally, and they still taste good to me. It is a reminder that they are always going to be a temptation for many of us.

Like anything else, moderation is the key. As long as you aren't buying a pack, it's no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

The bottom line is the number of cigarettes you haven't smoked - that makes you a successful vaper!

Well, I don't really feel like they are trying to tempt me to 'test' me, but they offer it because they don't want the rest of it or they are just trying to be nice. Still, I know it's not that big of a deal and some of them aren't even smokers but only smoke when they drink. I guess since I figure I am surrounded by second hand smoke a lot, it's not that much different to take a puff. I don't feel like cigs taste bad now but I do think my vape tastes better. And in a different scenario, if my battery dies or I lose it/forget it, run out of juice, etc., I will probably smoke.

I tried one cigarette. I just tried. Two months into vaping I tried my regular brand of cigarettes; it was so bad tasting I couldn't believe I used to smoke it. Ocassionally I crave just one particular brand of cigarettes: German made ERNTE21. Or was it 23 ? Can't remember any more, it was orange box, whenever I was in Europe I would buy ERNTE. I loved it so much, I feel I didn't get enough of its smell.

I often have strong cravings for sugary chocolatey dark tobacco cigars. So sweet cigaars which will put every candy in world to shame. I crave it only because of their unique sweet chocolatey flavor. But my e-juice does the good job compenzating for it. I've decided: tobacco - never again.

For me, it's perhaps 1-2 a week (although I'm trying to cut that down completely), in the following situations:
- after a big, several hours meeting
- around alcohol
- after a big meal

A while ago, I was very stressed and bought myself a pack and chain-smoked the entire thing. I regretted it the next morning, due to my lungs protesting heavily.

I have regular smokers from whom I steal a cig or two, so I buy them a pack. They always protest, but I explain that it is for my sense of not being cheap.

Sometimes, when there's something to celebrate (getting a big contract, for instance), I'd get myself a cigar, fill my whirlpool/hot tub, have a drink and relax with music. Then, an hour later, the masseuse arrives as the second part of reward, followed by the order of sushi from my favorite restaurant.

I will probably get rid of the smoking mentioned in the first part of my post, but this last thing - don't think so. After all, I hit a jackpot perhaps 3-4 times a year, so... :D

For the first 12 months of vaping i would light up a ciggy maybe every 6 weeks and take a couple of puffs. I would then discard it. 6 months ago i stopped completely because i couldn't stand the taste. I felt no guilt and wouldn't have done even if i had smoked a whole cigarette. I used to smoke 200 a week so smoking an occasional ciggy was no big deal.
I have found that i am back to how i felt when i first started smoking. The downsides far outweigh any perceived pleasure and now i am old enough to make an informed, educated decision not to smoke.
I know a few hardball smokers who deride me for vaping. Some of them genuinely don't get it and some of them hate the fact that smoking is becoming pathetic rather than cool. Hopefully your work colleagues fall into the first category and think they are doing you a favour.
My gut feeling though is i think they are encouraging you to smoke because they havn't managed their addiction and are jealous of you.

I have not had a cigarette since 1-2 days after I got my first kit. I just have had no desire for one. Sometimes I think I should try one and see what it's like now, but I don't want to buy a pack for that. It occurs to me that I could have bummed one from my FIL, since we just got back from visiting them, but it never occurred to me while we were there. It didn't smell good, wasn't tempting.

Like someone said above though, we are all different. I don't think an occasional cigarette is going to hurt you too much, just as long as you don't get sucked back into smoking regularly.

I do every once in awhile just to try it out again lol. It usually makes my stomach cramp up and gives me nasty headaches and whatnot.

Also, not enough throat hit. I used to think cigs had harsh hits but after vaping awhile smoking just feels like breathing in air that tastes like crap.

I had one yesterday after not smoking for almost month. A string of unfortunate events; running out of high nic juice, computers crashing, and an all around bad, stressful day led to asking someone for a smoke.
It is what it is, and beating myself up won't help anything. Not going to make a habit of it though.

Without vaping, I would have been back to a pack+ a day without blinking though. I can now see how some could have moderation in smoking with/through vaping.
