I must say I agree. Out of the box the Anyvape Vivi BDC produced a surprisingly full vape, lots of taste and vapor. It was right up there on stinginess with juice vaporizing very efficiently through a number of half-tank fills (about half a ml each). And pretty impressive as I did a side-by-side with a Kanger Mini Protank on matched eVic's. Resistance was 1.8Ω and to mimic performance I used a 1.5mm contact coil (microcoil) of my own design and build. And they were close, really close with the Kanger having a slight flavor advantage.
I did 6 tank fills of half ml with each vaping both atty's alternately over a two day period. Towards the end of this period there was a pronounced flavor
improvement in the AV BDC and after a brief period it settled down to a very slightly muted but balanced flavor output. The Kanger Mini predictably began to discolor the dense VG tobacco blend I used for the comparison, as do most clearo's, after about 2.5 ml. However, there was never any significant color change in the juice for the AV BDC even out more than three days of continued (not exclusive) use beyond the time of comparison. I finally retired the AV the fourth day.
Reading through the posts on this thread, and others here and elsewhere, I've come to the conclusion that the AV BDC popped a coil within the first 24 hours of use as reported earlier in this thread. Not typical for most users I would think, but if spread out, it would likely be within what I would expect the average life of these coils for a more typical serious consumer (a former non-casual smoker). I would say that would be 5-7 days for a pack-a-day user. I can't say this would be typical performance for these coil heads but my experience by comparison with the similar cousin, the typical carto tank atomizer.
This would though explain the dry, muted, underperforming reports being noticeably posted. It would point possibly to some quality production issues with these heads. In retrospect, you kinda get locked into the perspective of a comparison. The flavor of the Kanger predictably changed as the efficient power of a micro coil in a Mini affected the juice. Sorta like reheating a good soup. It tends to taste better, richer, until it's past its prime. The AV BDC did not. Perhaps because of the reported fiber-fill, and by design. It remained quite flat throughout but particularly so after the short burst of flavor, there came a brief burned period. That resolved, the flavor didn't become denser but in hindsight, become subtly less sustained with a slight burned taste eventually overwhelming it. Such that by the fourth day, with two days of comparison and two in regular rotation, I simply had to say enough.
For a typical clearo a significant change in color pretty much coincides with the approaching time to swap coils or rebuild. It's a good indicator. With the AV BDC you simple can't see it coming. And a powerful flavor could mask the change in the condition of the coil.
I don't know if the AV BDC, which would seem to signal the beginning of a more standardized quality-controlled coil head production, is going to be a "game changer". I'm not to sure I see the reasons why it should with the above and so much consumer willingness to "let's all just try it". Where is the incentive?
And it begs the question — Why? If the atomizer on a Blu just works, why doesn't this one? I bought many and they just did. In Florida, I used them for poolside companions to save my other investments. Some for months. Why such a disparity?
But now almost six months in the more that I try mass produced
solutions touted as the be-all-end-all I'm reminded of analogs and what a burden and hazard they became with regulatory standardizations. I'm starting to see the point of view of much of the old guard in vaping that preceded us that hesitate to adopt and adapt to a replacement technology that you can't see, touch, taste, feel yourself.
Finally, this was just one test. The next nine heads might be grand. But, for me, the possibility of that 9 out of 10 is just not good enough to justify the trial to find it out.
I like solutions that
do just work. Let someone else be the crash dummy.
Just sayin'.
Good luck!
p.s. And BTW, I still use Ego-T's out on the pool deck.
