And people think I spend too much time thinking about zombies...

FWIW, I don't recall the exact spacing between utensils, but I'm still pretty sure I can set a 'proper' placesetting down to the bread plate and chaffing dish. My backwoods Arkansas daddy made sure I knew how to sit at dinner, ANY dinner, without embarrassing myself or my family's name. He literally grew up in a two room shack with one side of the same board being 'inside', and the other 'outside', and the road to the bus stop being not three but three and a half pretty darn hilly miles of odometer confirmed Arkansas clay. To say it was interesting to see him walk around the old homestead is an understatement!
He found an old mother of pearl button in the dirt and not only remembered the whipping he got for loosing it, but the date and day it happened. He gave it to my grand mother 50 years later when we got back. All she had to say was "Took you long enough to find it, maybe I didn't motivate you hard enough...". Talk about putting things in perspective for a, then young, me! Needless to say, I didn't need much motivation after that, a look was more than enough!
