Are we really still "smoking"?

Last Friday I got my eGo kit in the mail and haven't had an analog since. This has been nothing short of amazing as I would have to say that the addiction had me in a firm grip. There are some people who have kind of minimized my "quitting" of analogs because they think that this is still "smoking". Even though I've compared it to those who use the patch or gum to quit, they don't seem to look at it the same way.

What do you think? Are we really still smoking and just fooling ourselves since we're still getting nicotine or have we quit? Does it really matter?

Of course, what people think isn't going to make me change what I'm doing but I wondered what your experiences were and what you fine people thought about this.

I so hear you! My husband and I had a little argument this morning about me "quitting" but vaping for the last 3 weeks. I feel like I have quit, my body feels like I have quit, and my lungs are thanking me, but in his eyes I'm still a smoker. He still smokes, I bought him a kit which he will only use while he is hunting.... He says it ok but will not use it anywhere else. I do get wonderful support from co workers and friends though. I am an NON SMOKER!

I am a non smoker, I am a vaper and proud of it. I am not getting those 4000 chemicals from cigarettes, I am just getting my nicotine with my pv. If drinking coffee or pepsi is someones way of getting caffeine there is no problem with that and there is no problem with me getting my nicotine, one is not worse then the other. I am grabbing my eGo and enjoying my peanut butter cup juice I made last night and it is yummy.

10 years ago I had a full gastric bypass. I was 360 lbs and was diabetic and on the road to massive health issues. I tried every diet - I was a diet expert - but nothing I did could help me lose weight. This was my last recourse. People thought I took the easy was out. (LOL) They also assumed that I would gain it back within a year or two. Well - it's 10 years later. I'm healthy and happy and still alive. After losing down to 140 and looking like one of those bird thermometers that tips over because of the size of my chest, I gained back up to a comfortable 175 (I'm 5'8). I've been 175-185 depending on the time of year for the past 9 years. Naysayers be damned. The surgery saved my life. It was just a tool. The real work started afterwards, when I had to learn to absolutely say, "NO!" to sugar and carbs and yes to cardio and yoga. I had to make the life decisions and changes and stick with them - it wasn't some quick fix that happened because of some miracle cure. This was WAAAAAY more mind over (lots and lots of) matter.

I think vaping is basically the same thing. It is a tool for us to walk away from analogs. If you want to walk away from nicotene great!!!! Make a plan and do it. If you just want to "not smoke" then do that. Whatever your choice, remember that it's YOUR choice and to heck with what everyone else thinks. Trust me, in 10 years, you'll still be around doing whatever you're committed to doing and the naysayers will have moved on to a new target. Best of luck. :) (Sorry for the long a$$d post.)

I know I feel better since I started vaping. Only bad side i found is I tend to eat a little to much because food taste so much better now. Who cares what others think, i don't stink and I sure can tell I am healthier. Plus you can make vaping a hobby and all the flavors are so much better than cigs.

Amen! Asked my wife the other night what she did different with a dish she made. "Nothing." It was absolutely amazing though!

Different reactions in my camp. Everybody around me is excited and proud - except the smokers, they are just curious. I even though I explain that I still get nicotine and the habituation, the non and ex-smokers are proud and happy to see it. It's great!

I understand. I haven't had a cigarette since April 1st, so I am very happy with vaping and this forum for all its help.
I was a confirmed smoker for over 40 years prior to this.
I didn't want to quit, my health was fine and I loved smoking cigarettes.
I became interested in vaping however, mostly due to this board. I bought some vaping supplies because I kind of liked the idea of it. I began mixing in vaping with my smoking and when my smokes ran out, I didn't buy any more--just vaped. It was Sooo Easy.
Back to my point; When I smoked, I made it a point to never discourage my fellow smokers from quitting , but rather I supported them. Sounds obvious? Heh, heh, yeah right. If you've attempted to quit before, how many times have you heard from your smoking friends, "you'll be back".
So many smokers HATE IT when others quit smoking. I don't know if its because of the inconvenience of being polite and no longer blowing smoke in their faces or smoking in their house or if its just plain old jealousy cuz someone else had the guts to quit smoking. What I'm getting at is that I find smokers the least receptive to information about vaping. So many nonsmokers find the idea interesting and can see that its a positive step. In my personal experience and among the people with whom I associate, there are only a couple of smokers who are so open-minded. Just in case you are wondering, I do not preach about it. I don't ask if vaping is ok in bars or restaurants--I just go outside. Not interested in a confrontation. Outside I'll encounter folks having a smoke and if the subject comes up, I'll describe my success with the e-cig. If they're interested, I'll offer info. Thats it.
Sorry to ramble--kind of got caught up in the moment:)

You guys are great! The general consensus seems to be that we are vapers, not smokers so get over it those who like to judge others :)

Perhaps with such negative feeling, press, and vilification of smoking, people are so conditioned to think that anything that even slightly resembles it is a bad thing. However, not getting thousands of toxic chemicals as well as the tobacco, paper and GAWD knows what else is in there IS a good thing.... Oh and did I mention how it sucked when they changed the paper so the cigi kept going out because a few people fell asleep with their cigarette going and burned the house down?

Not missing the smell, the shortness of breath, having to go outside, the $$$$, etc. Vaping just feels and tastes cleaner.

Vape on my friends, vape on!

My mom still doesn't see the difference between smoking and vaping. Improving my health and having more money(once I stop stocking up) doesn't matter to her, since they both have nicotine. I could care less anyways, because I did this for myself and not anyone else. I'd have to admit vaping does make picking up the girls easier because I don't smell like crap and technology is always cool.
