Three cats:

Logan is a black cat who is so smart it's scary, but he is also epileptic. He had a string of seizures last week so severe that it scrambled his brain for days. He forgot all the rules of the house for a few days. Luckily he's been coming back to normal the last few days.

Punkin is a fluffy little stray who was so infested with fleas when we found her that she wasn't gaining any weight. We had to bathe her and pick off all the fleas with tweezers because she was too little for chemical flea killers. Now she's just an adorable puffball... and she never did get much bigger!

Zippy is named for her attitude. She runs all day long. That thing about how cats are supposed to sleep two thirds of the day? That's not her style. She's got a touch of the feral in her still, even three years later. What a nut!

There's also our five foot albino burmese python, called Snake. We meant to give her a name, but nothing ever seemed to fit so we kept calling her "the snake". Now she's just Snake. She was a rescue as well. The couple who originally kept her had a dramatic break up, and both of them left their apartment suddenly, leaving her behind to starve. She was malnourished when she was found and taken to the lady who nursed her back to health. We had a tough time at first getting her to eat properly, but now she is fat and happy, if not entirely hand-friendly. We still use gloves to handle her because she gets snappish at times.

If the snake is a risk of biting only handle it when another person is around.. a 5 ft burmese has the power to kill an adult.. I had a 7ft bite my hand.. my fault was not paying attention when feeding.. hit my hand and coiled around my neck had my brother unwrap the snake while i worked the teeth out of my hand..

started warming the rats after that so that I was not the heat source and used tongs or just opened the lid enough to slip the rat in after that..

Meet Yoshi and his side kick Quackerz :p

My first dog and couldn't have picked a better one. Got him about 3.5 years ago from a shelter, he's a baby 'giant' weighing in at little under 66lbs. And the ladies love him, can't walk down the street without someone stopping and making baby faces at him telling him how cute he is lol. Cant say I mind ;)

Yeah, we deal with her in pairs. You can also keep alcohol (the drinking kind) nearby - A whiff or two of clear liquor will usually distract a wrapping snake long enough to regain control. She's never taken an aggressive stance with us, though - she's just jumpy and will lash out if she gets spooked.

Not like the red-tailed boa we had a few years ago. She was so docile we'd take her for walks in the neighborhood, and many nights she'd curl up with us watching movies. That was Athena (yes, she had a proper name!). I miss her dearly - we moved and she mysteriously died shortly thereafter. She had been happy and healthy before the move, but we weren't even settled into our new place when she up and died. It's still a mystery to us.

1 Pit Bull (a young idiot)

1 Pit/Lab mix (honestly, the worlds best dog)

1 Rott/German Shepherd mix (super sweet and eager to please people - barks a lot though in her old age)

1 Maine .... cat (he thinks he is a dog)

1 Blue-fronted Amazon parrot (he thinks he is Popeye)

I also have a skunk living under the foundation of my house.

Next week end I will no longer have a skunk living under the foundation of my house. It is very possible I will have a cement entombed skunk under the foundation of my house. My little gift for the people of the future.

I have 3 dogs in heart and memory, first was "Vern"(australian shepard rotweiler mix-)smartest dog ever, saved my life once, and protected my mom once from a would be attacker. then came cosmo-pure mut that looked like a chocolate marble cake. and then our "molly" purebred chocolate lab-the goofiest dog in the world that could always cheer you up when you were down. she seemed to be able to sense it. she was taken from us at 3 yrs. old from the tainted dog food:( all were beloved family members.

1 cat, jake he's 24 years old, blind and deaf.
want another dog really bad, but not until God sees fit to bring jake home to him.

And we have 14 chickens, best rototillers around:) and they're great to watch. with the bonus of the best eggs you ever had in your life.

May I suggest a humane trap for the skunk, rather than a horrible death by entombment? Please? If you can't do it yourself, there are companies that trap wildlife humanely and return them to the wilderness...

I am an expert on mice and humane traps. I can't tell you how many times my family and I caught little critters in those devices and then drove them to some remote wilderness where we released them with great satisfaction and a sense of having done a good deed. You just have to drive at least a couple of miles or they'll be back.:p

I wouldn't. I was joking. I actually really like skunks. I don't mind them under there. I can't smell them and they aren't doing any damage (our foundation sits on about 60 piers). But the little pit bull REALLY wants to play with "the stinky kitty" again. That I could smell.

I managed to evict them the night I posted that by placing rags soaked in ammonia in their little den under the house. I peaked in with a flash light to ensure no one was home then stuffed the rags in.

I placed a few rocks over the hole. They came back later and pushed a few rocks aside, but didn't stick around. The rocks haven't been moved since.

I guess ammonia is too stinky even for a skunk. heh heh.

Victor--

That pit bull is an absolute doll!!!! I just love that expressive face! My sister-in-law has a pit bull too. He's a 100 pound muscle and loves nothing more than to knock you down so he can drown you in kisses. He's just a sweet, sweet boy.

Thanks. He's a real clown. He is my first actual pit bull. He and his sister were rescued from a backyard breeder who was about to cut their ears off. The rescue group got them out just in time.

I'm sold on pits. They are great dogs. They're a little high energy sometimes so you have to stay on top of them but they are really smart animals. I don't think I'll ever get another type of dog after this... and I don't even really like dogs. I'm more of a cat person. heh heh.

He is adorable! I have a pit bull/black lab mix, and she is the sweetest dog! Pit bulls have an undeserved reputation as the bad boys, when they are not! But if they wind up in the wrong hands, it's terrible. BTW, KUDOS to the rescue group!! I wish there were more of them!!
