My experience as a Rayon-wicking tootle puffer.
I'm currently using CC Rayon (from Sally's) in everything I vape: Evod, Evod Glass, GS-H2, PT2 w/AFC, 19mm KF clone, KFL+v2 clone, Erlkonigin clone, IGO L, Veritas clone, Plume Veil clone. I'm also using up my stock of Aspire BVCs in an Anyvape Peakomizer. When the BVCs are gone, so is the Peakomizer.
I have tried and have in stock: twisted & braided silica, organic cotton balls, KGD & CC Rayon. I don't boil/treat anything.
If you're keeping your vapes to 10W or less, any organic cotton works great. I plan to never use silica again.
Why I like Rayon:
After a 2-3 week learning curve, I find Rayon the easiest and most consistent wicking material. The flavor is superb with no break-in period. It wicks like an SOB. I vape all my attys dry with no dry/burnt hits. The flavor drops off dramatically before any burnt/dry hits occur, warning me to refill/drip. Rayon has a higher singe point than cotton. At most, Rayon has a burning paper taste/smell when run too hot. If you get a nasty/chemically taste, it's the residue burning on the coils. Dr. Farsalinos believes this to be bad and probably means your build needs a bit more wick. My wicks last 40-60ml between changes. Coils last 6-10 weeks, depending on gauge.
JeremyR has an epically superb thread on Rayon. Many helpful people with many tutorials:

I vape all my "tanks" @ 10-15W (occasionally 18 on the Erlk) and my RDAs @ 15-25W. This may be pushing the "tootle puffing" definition. But that's where I am.
Mods still in rotation include: iTaste VTR, DIY VAMO box mod, iStick 20W and a rebuilt Cloupor DNA 30 Hana clone. My favorite go-to is my iStick 30W!
I DIY my e-liquid @ 85-95% VG and have NO wicking/leaking issues.
I rebuild my smaller tanks (Evods, GS-H2; all air holes have been opened to at least 1/16") thusly:
-Horizontally: 30g KA1 @ 1.59mm (1/16"), tensioned, symmetrical-spaced coil from 1.4-1.6Ω
-Vertically (becoming more rare): 28g KA1 @ 2.38mm (3/32") TMC (tensioned micro-coil) from 1.4-1.6Ω
ProTank 2 w/AFC:
-Horizontally: 28g KA1 @ approximately 2.6mm (#4 machine screw), tensioned/spaced around 1.3-1.4Ω
-Wick channels in heads are opened up to 2.6mm with a needle file.
-Positive pin & chimney are opened up as much as possible with the needle file.
-Holes on AFC base are drilled out to 1/16".
-This build gives a stock KFL a run for its money with a bit more airflow.
RTAs & RDAs:
Horizontal: 28g KA1 @ 3mm, tensioned/spaced; RTAs @ 1.2Ω, RDAs @ 1.0-1.2Ω.
For those unable/unwilling to rebuild, I'm told the Eleaf GS Air and GS Air-M are excellent!
I hope this is helpful to some. Ask away if you have any questions.
Cheers!
