How about nicotine? Would that affect weight?

Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

Well I did lose 15lbs in short order when I quit smoking and then quit nicotine (and was vaping VG). But that's because the smoking and nicotine were treating undiagnosed Crohn's.

Since it is claimed to increase heart rate and 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day is supposed to burn calories I've assumed nicotine does count as exercise.

My husband gave up ice cream and swapped beef for fish. Lost twenty pounds just like that. I bought a bicycle, rode five miles a day, did a low carb 900 calories, etc etc, Lost 2 lbs in a month.

My exercise bike doesn't work. I do 4-5 miles. It says I only burned 100 calories. Then I need to eat 1000 calories of sherbet to cool down.

I vape as much as I want, got myself a bicycle and started riding it five to ten miles per day, lost thirty pounds so far...oh yeah, and because of a diabetes diagnosis, no more carbs, lots of veggies. I don't think the vaping has any impact either way, other than keeping me off the smokes so that I CAN excercise.

I also got an Xbox Kinect and do the stupid games. For maybe 45 minutes, an hour. It says I burned under 100 calories. It’s not fair. I can eat My sad little 300 calorie dinner but it would take me half the day to dance it off.

I did some online calculators that factor in things the bike does. They say the bike underestimates my burn by 2x-3x.
It's the same with calorie intake. It's all guess work.

I can burn 1500 calories a day stressing out about how to properly attack some of the silly threads we see from time to time......not this one, of course.

Over exam period I don't know how many calories a day I consumed, but over the course of those two weeks I made and consumed 4 batches of fudge, each using 500g sugar and 5 cheesecakes, 12inches in diameter and 2 inches in depth and 4l of vanilla ice cream - in addition to my usual breakfast wrap each day. Somehow I still lost weight and I don't exercise so I can only blame stress, lack of sleep and depression flare-up. Furthermore, the two weeks after I purged pretty hard, eating breakfast only and taking laxatives daily, not because of weight gain but the sheer guilt.

EDIT: I didn't make the ice-cream, but I did make everything else - realised that wasn't clear originally

It’s that simple for men, maybe, but not so for women of a certain age.

My husband gave up ice cream and swapped beef for fish. Lost twenty pounds just like that. I bought a bicycle, rode five miles a day, did a low carb 900 calories, etc etc, Lost 2 lbs in a month.

For me, I had to take supplements to support metabolic function, go mostly meatless, avoid processed food and sodium, and eat smart carbs. It’s not about calories after menopause. I was gaining at 1100 calories, and I’m slowly losing at 1400. Sodium equals water retention and empty carbs lead to more hunger and less portion control.

And just to be clear, I was thin all my life. I was a size 4 at 40.

That's funny in a way -- because it reminded me of that commercial on TV -- don't even know for what supplement but they show a guy and a gal like in stick figure form. Both went on a diet and then they show you a week or so later the guys pants are falling off and the woman lost very little.

I gained a lot of weight when I stopped smoking and started vaping and have lost a good amount of it but very slowly. My Mom who is much older eats like a racehorse --and I still have to give her one or two ensures per day to make sure she doesn't lose any weight. Go figure.

It is a well known fact that men have a metabolism that burns twice as fast than that of women.

To lose weight you have to eat less than you burn in a day, so that naturally means you eat less and more of healthy type of food. You can't starve yourself because the body will go into preserve mode and won't burn off the calories.

I don’t think this is a fact? But maybe. But bottom line, if you calculate your TDEE (total calories your body burns in day), and eat less than that, you WILL lose weight. No matter your sex or age. It’s just science. I am a middle aged woman (oh god how did that happen?! Lol) and I and many others lost weight in this way. It is not impossible, but can be difficult.

Ok, so maybe not half as much but there are differences.

I sort of did this. I lost a lot of weight just by keeping my calorie intake @ or under a 1000 calories a day. I figured if the ave calorie intake(over all) was 1200 calories for a person my size and bone structure I would do less. I lost 1 - 2 lbs a day, and when I reach a plateau and stopped losing then I added walking to my routines and that started the weight loss right back up. It wasn't fun(until I had to buy all new clothes.lol) but doable.

:)
