This question is directed to those who kept smoking some while vaping in the beginning...im cutting out analogs totally on january 1st and im wondering was it a conscious decision for others or did you get a mod/passthru/sonething else that really got you past the need for analogs full time...also for those of you like me who just havta have a cig with a beer/drink how did you get over that hurdle...im afraid after a few drinks i will toss the ecig and give in to temptation...i know theres willpower involved...i have willpower...bucketloads....but when wine is involved im not so confident!!!also im making another order next week for my giving up process so anything i should include(dont say chuck cos i might just get one and havta wait ANOTHER week for a bed to sleep on(just bought a new apartment!)

ps. if this has been discussed a link would be great

I started vaping on November 10th. I was smoking two packs a day. By November 13th, I was down to half a pack. Then I made a decision to allow a certain number of hours to pass before having another cigarette. When I got down to 3 a day, I said screw it and quit. That was on November 21 and I haven't had one since. Hope that helps. Best of luck to you!

I smoked anaolgs on and off for a couple of months while I struggled with the Smoke51 system. I got a Joye510 system on Sept 23, and haven't had an analog since, despite the fact that my wife still smokes and they're readily available. I didn't really make a concious effort, I just stopped wanting them. Even when drinking, which I've been known to do now and again.

I never took a decision to stop smoking, I new if I threatened the addicted part of me, there would be a backlash and I'd end up smoking more. So, I bought a PV just to see if it may, possibly, replace a few cigarettes, sort of sneaky flank attack on my psyche.

My initial liquid was 16mg Nic and for 10 days, I smoked 10 a day instead of 25 without much effort at all, vaping in parallel. Then I got a bottle of 24mg and continued vaping but only smoked 1 a day for 2 days, but they tasted really bad. Thereafter, no more analogs, except for a couple of days during a PV breakdown, which really only served to prove to me, I didn't have to fear them anymore.

I'm still struggling to quit completely, to be honest, though my analog consumption is ridiculously low now. Since buying my first e-cig at the start of December, I've had my usual cigarillos at a rate of one every week or two. My biggest problem so far has been taste. Although I'm getting plenty of nicotine, sometimes I get fed up with the chemical flavors that seep in to my carts. So a few times, I've caved and felt like I've needed to taste real tobacco. I dunno.

20+ a day smoker for around 25 years...

I smoked around 10 rollies on day 1 of having my Titan 510

I smoked around 6 rollies on day 2

That was it, day three I vaped from when I woke up and never looked back...24mg really hit the spot for me. :)

Everybody is different though, I really, really wanted to quit but didn't have the will power to go cold turkey...if I hadn't discovered e-cigs, I'd still be happily chugging away at my Golden Virginia tobacco and smelling like an ashtray. My mum quit smokes years ago, she just ditched them and didn't look back, I could not have done that.

I didn't order my kit with the intention of quitting cigs - I was just curious. But when it came, it felt like it might work, so I figured I'd try only having a cig when I absolutely had to. The first 3 days I had 4-5 cigs each day, and on the 4th day, I didn't have any, and haven't since. While I was waiting for my order to arrive, I had done some more reading in the Nicotine section and placed a second order for another kit for my wife, and stronger cartomizers as well, so on that 4th day I was using 24mg instead of the 11's and 18's I had originally ordered. The 24's got me over the hump, and I am now starting to lower my nicotine strength.

BTW, I had been a smoker for 40 years, at times up to 2.5-3 packs a day, but more like a pack a day over the last decade or so.

I never made the decision to quit, I just realized that I had already done it. :) I decided to see if I could get through a whole day without an analog and it stretched into two and that next analog was really unappealing. Supplementing with a dissolvable snus product whenever I got a strong urge for something "real" I managed to stay off analogs long enough to regain my sense of smell and taste and the other day I took a drag off a lady friend's Camel Wide and refused to take another drag and quickly went back to my Xhaler for some relief! :D

If you're still craving analogs, IMO its either psychological or physical or both: If its a psychological thing, I'd suggest trying a 5V mod to bump up the flavor and vapor production to make it feel more "real". If its a physical thing, I'd suggest trying a dissolvable snus product that will give you the whole tobacco alkaloids without the nastiness of smoke.

For me, having the 5V vapor production is what is now most important to me. I keep some dissolvables on hand, but only use them in emergencies because I'm not a big fan of the flavor, but I love Xhaling giant clouds of vapor flavored to suit my mood.

Yup, bought a Janty Stick near end October but it didn't do the job completely until loaded with 24mg liquid. Even then the analog ghost was not far away and ready to close in for the kill when the Stick's defensive shields went down. Vaping has a learning curve and it took awhile to predict the pitfalls and be prepared e.g. trying to keep a dying atomiser going to save money and having no spare, (a weak vape opens the door for the analog ghost), or juice getting low and a delay in getting more. I now have an M201 as my main vape and the JS as a backup, spare atties for both and a fridge full of RY4. :D

Doug Dread, I know exactly what you mean about needing to sneak up on the psyche. For me it has involved a series of mind games plus some luck. The mind games are funny because I really do like vaping better, but my brain has some 25+ years of training to go to the analogues. So I've been approaching it gradually and in a non-threatening way ("hey, brain, how about we just do this for a while and we can always stop if necessary"). I've also had some good luck (if you can call it that) by having to be at long social events during bitterly cold weather (exposed skin will freeze in less than 10 minutes, says the weather report). I found that stealth puffing in the bathroom was sufficient to get me through hours and hours with no cravings, and I watched my analogue smoking friends get crankier and crankier (and they finally went outside to brave the vicious cold and I felt no need to). That was a valuable lesson which really helped my confidence in PVs.
