Now both the silver and the black are
vaping great. And so is my older son's silver.
I can't be sure what I did differently on the one dry build, but I think that I had packed the wick too tight in the wells.
The silver unit has a 5/64" drill bit wind 28 G 1.4Ohms, and the black a 7/64" 28 G 1.2Ohms. I cleaned the deck, checked the holes with a piece of guitar string, nothing very special. The wick is the same koh gen doh cotton on both, and they pass
through the coil tight enough to give enough resistance when pulling the wick through that if I pulled hard and fast it would pull the coil over.
Checked that there is no void between wick and coil as there was in that catastrophic picture. The clearance above the air hole around 3 mm. Made sure the wick shaggy dog haircut, as pushed back down into the wells, just reaches the deck and leaves a little space on the edges, so liquid can fill the well without the cotton blocking it off. I think this is important. Better to bunch up the wick from the sides to the center with a little screwdriver, and leave an empty space over each liquid feed hole on the side, than cram too much cotton in there and plug the holes.
Someone had mentioned that he was cutting the wicks short so they didn't reach the deck floor, that's probably the same idea. We're
vaping pretty hard in that we expect a lot o' hairy capillary from these wicks.
Before putting it together I dripped liquid into the wells
rather than onto the coil and made sure I could see liquid was wicking ok, wetting the cotton inside the coil. Fired it once before reassembly, it was sizzling evenly, no big pops. I kinda think big pops are a sign of pockets and uneven coil-wick contact.
So, nothing special, just more attention to detail.
It reads 4.3 volts and 13 watts on the display with the 1.4 ohm coil on the Defender 25 watt adjustable, and that atty sounds/tastes just a smidge hotter than the black 1.2 ohm coil on the black mechanical 4-9 mod with a reasonably fresh 4.2 volt IMR battery. These Kayfun V4s are mahvelous! The way you can take them apart and check the insides without losing any juice or ruining the build.
The juice is zero-nic 95% VG, around 5% FlavourArt flavoring (since we truly don't know anything about the inhalation toxicity of food flavoring
other than diketones, I never
ever risk using over 5-10% of flavoring), a few drops of 151 Rum and distilled water. Yummy. Zero calorie dessert.
No question that I'm addicted. But to WHAT? At first it was Propylene Glycol + Nicotine. That's an active cocktail. Then it was just VG and nicotine. Then I dropped the nicotine and i'm down to just flavored VG. And I'm still strung out. Feel like RIP Trippers, I want MORE, bigger clouds! Wind some crazy coils, I want MORE, bigger batteries, bigger taste! Whooooaaao!
How about it? Who's going to have the first Kilowatt mod?
