I will try a 3mm coil. I am using 28g wire with 7 wraps on a 2.5mm currently.

Sylpheel, I'd suggest watching Phil Busardo's video, linked earlier in this thread by KTM:

Attack of the (Kayfun v4) Clones! | Page 195 | E-Cigarette Forum

Phil's an expert on Kayfuns and he explains things very well. I'd follow his build recommendations--at least for starters.

I believe he's making a 2.25 mm coil. IMHO, 2-2.4 mm I.D. coil, 28-29 gauge, 1.6Ω (or so) is ideal for Kayfuns.

Good luck!

I seem to be having problems wicking my kayfun v4. I am getting dry hits with my DIY 40pg/60vg juice. Is the wick supposed to touch the deck or rest above it? I don't have any problems with my Kfl+ but I am having all sorts of problems with the v4. When my v4 works it is a great vape.
What is your KFv4 build like- single or dual coil, coil ID, wire type/gauge, number of turns, ohms, and what are you using for wick?

I like a 3mm coil ID just fine (or 2.5mm), but there's no reason the KFv4 won't wick even w/a 1/16" ID coil- as long as the wicking is right and you match the power to the coil and juice. I use rayon, if you're not you could look into it. The tails should just touch the deck- don't poke the wick into the holes though. If this is a new atty, be sure the juice feed holes in the deck are free of machining chips. This is usually done when it's disassembled for the initial thorough cleaning but you can still probe the holes w/the atty assembled.

I was running a 2.5mm 28g 1.3ohm single coil and I switched it out for a 3mm 26g 1 ohm coil and it is wicking perfectly so far. I've had this atty for about a month and I believe it is a HCigar one. My Tobecco one started jumping ohms and the juice control got stuck so I bought another one. I may put one more wrap on my coil next time but I am liking the vape so far with the 3mm coil.

What this tells me is you're not using rayon.

Ok, so I now have two piles: Pile 1--parts I'll probably never use; and Pile 2--parts I think I need to make the PC version. Bear with me. The only part I didn't take apart is the very base + building deck--don't want to mess with that spring inside... Do I need to wash the deck? If so, do I have to take the deck/base apart for cleaning?

This thing is worse than IKEA's furniture...

You should. It's not that hard. Just turn it like you're closing the JC and it should separate. The spring is between the 2 parts.

Yes, SIr.

OK, will do. Off to wash the thing.

The video by PBsudaro referenced earlier is long but does show how to fully break down the V4 and reassemble. The first time I broke one down, I followed along with the video. Believe me, once you do it once it will be easy.
