Here's the rub, though. New York charges $9 to $10 for a pack of cigarettes. That's at LEAST 2/3rds in taxes alone. If you write your legislators and tell them that e-cigarettes have worked for you, that's exactly the kind of ammunition they need to ban them. They don't give squat about your health. They want your money. And you are notifying them that you have stopped giving it to them.

Just posted this up in the general discussion forum. Why did no-one else do this? If we are going to get the message out to people to take action, we must put posts in forums where people will actually see it.

The notices only go so far, I'm afraid.
I guess I figured that by posting frequently on this thread, it would keep it in the "New Posts" results. I'm leery of starting threads in several places - it makes it difficult to keep everyone informed and you have to answer the same questions in each thread and I can't access some forums to answer questions.

"The FDA had warned that e-cig use poses "acute health risks," that "the dangers posed by their toxic chemicals . . . cannot seriously be questioned," and that they have caused a wide variety of potentially serious symptoms "including racing pulse, dizziness, slurred speech, mouth ulcers, heartburn, coughing, ........, and sore throat." Source E-Cigarette Imports Banned Indefinitely[/url]
That's what we are up against. A well structured, well organised, and very well funded group.
Anyone that hasn't been to this website should visit it. They will stop at nothing short of banning Nicotine. Even if we have a total ban on e-cigs and some of us reluctantly return to smoking. We will be forced to drive out into the middle of nowhere to smoke or vape if a blackmarket exists. I was appalled when I moved to the USA and Texas to find that you can be arrested and fined for being drunk anywhere other than your own property. Even if you walk to a bar you can be arrested walking home. But with these ASH people they want even smoking to be banned in your own homes, in case a wisp of smoke undetectable even to your neighbors noses could infect their lungs and kill their children. Is this the land of free? Yes free to have all rights removed.
So that is the future for American vaping being arrested and jailed no doubt for carrying a 10ml bottle of Waffle juice.
Watch out coffee drinkers your next.. apparently mg for mg caffeine is a bad as Nicotine.
But as always we must think of the children.. I for one weep for a future where the world superpower has got a population of adults that are basically a smothered controlled bunch of babies that have never been exposed to anything. Ill end on a paraphrase from Bill Hicks " Got some bad news for the non-smokers, non smokers die everyday to" A life without risk is no life at all.

True, they probably don't realize that many New Yorkers haven't bought more than a few pack of smokes in New York (outside of an Indian Reservation) in EONS. I used to have to travel to CA a fair amount on business and the amount I saved by buying cartons there paid for my flight and hotel and if it wasn't Cali a friend would ship to me from New Hampshire and or relatives in the Carolinas.

The correct Albany addresses for NY Senate Health Committee members is below (the contact info which I previously posted didn't contain any fax numbers for 3 Senators, and didn't contain Albany fax numbers for 3 Senators).

I have sent emails to all of our Ny Senate Health Commitee members. I would like to do more by calling them.
However I would like to give them the best arguement without saying something that could possibly do more harm then good for our case.

Is there anyone out there who has done something like this before and knows just what to say? If I had some sort of writeup as to what to say to the committee members then I would do so more eagerly without worry of sounding stupid or misinforming the members I call.

Thanks,

is anyone here going from franklin county/ the north country?

We have received written assurances from Senator Duane's office that the bill will not be called for discussion/action at the tomorrow's Senate Health Committee meeting.

That means we have more time for people to continue with phone calls, letters, faxes, and emails. The more we inundate them with opposition messages the better.

Also, anyone who can plan to go to Albany for the date they DO schedule the bill at a Health Committee meeting (most likely a Tuesday), please stay tuned! You can also PM me, to be put on a list of people I will email/PM directly when we learn the bill is scheduled, to discuss coordination of transportation and/or car pooling from various areas of the state to Albany.

Gosh this is so aggravating!! When will the government just take a step back? Hopefully this won't be another instance of the government ramming their 'authority' down our throats. Argh!

*steps down from soap box*

I have sent emails to the legislators in New York and also commented on the DISQus site.
