Looking at this pic...I think those arms are brilliant !
Just wrap the wire around them and tighten down the screw...no need to try to trap the wire under the screw head - it places it there for you !

Nothing is easier than my Kuro Koiler--I can make coils in my sleep and they always come out right. No need to pinch, scrunch, cajole--just install, pulse the coil a few times and it's ready to go!

I have 2 and 2.5mm coilers. Got mine from Desert Vapes.

Oh god, there are options.

I don't know which one to get! Double

While KM3 is well regarded for flavour (arguably the best in my collection), K5 seems like the most versatile Kayfun to date. It can easily adopt various builds, wicking methods and air flows. A bit tall to my liking, but looks good overall. My only concern is the flavour (due to the larger base/chimney), I hope SM did some magic there.

That kind of killed the v4 a bit IMO. Chamber size and shape have a bigger affect on flavor than cloud and I noticed a change depending on how open the flow was set.

I love my Kuro coilers because they are nicely made, small, and comes with a removable rod--useful for mounting coils. I tried the big Artistic wire gizmo but it I gave up on it. It was a hassle to set up and it didn't come with the right size rods (the 5 included rods are either too small or too big for my needs). Now I only use the Kuro (I mostly make 2 or 2.5mm coils).

I'm thinking you thread your wire between the screw and the arm then wrap it around to the other side and wrap it around the other arm to simple hold the wire in place so as to free up a hand for tightening.

to me it looks like if you're going to use something like clapton wire these arms are helpful and you would go on the outside, but if all you're using is regular wire then I don't see why this couldn't be done the same way as the RBA in the Subtank for example? If you watch this video he even brings up the Subtank and doesn't go on the outside

Lori, you wouldn't happen to have one of these laying around do you? Amazon.com: Artistic Wire Coiling Gizmo(R) Deluxe Winder for Jewelry Making
I've seen that before, but I don't have one, I would use a cordless drill (for jewelry). Same idea though. That would have actually been easier than the drill. I always had problems running it slowly enough when coiling. :)

Those jewelers screwdrivers are nice for wrapping coils. Here is an old tutorial I put together awhile back. You can see the screwdriver doubles as a mandrel. The one in the tutorial is 2.0mm diameter. The next larger driver is like 2.4mm. You can buy a set of these at Home Depot for like $8 or something.

Microcoil Pictorial - Simple

And you're smart enough to know that wives do not belong in their husband's tool box. :D
Oh thank you for the tutorial!! I'm going to bookmark that and go read!! THANK YOU!!

Heavens no I don't get in his tool box :rules:...unless it's a DIRE emergency, and he's not home.

Oh, then I'll just get a set of those screwdrivers for myself if they're that reasonable, same with the drill bit.
That way if he needs his, he doesn't have to come get them from me. I have my own little tool box for basic stuff.

You people and your gizmos.
:D

Or get a spool of 29g Kanthal--my favorite gauge for Kayfuns.:) I buy mine directly from Temco, great prices and free shipping.
Thanks Katya, I'll get that too! So, 28, 29, and 30.

I really appreciate all the help!!

Hmmmm. I watched that vid and I couldn't see where he ran those wires. I don't remember him doing a close up of it.

Excellent tutorial Bronze!!
When I wrap around the post, you say go around once, as in all the way around until the wires touch each other, or just make a generous U, then snip?
A generous U is more than sufficient Lori (even a frugal U will work or a banana bend). No need to go more than 360 degrees and have layers of wire stack on top of each other...too messy. And give the screw a nice cinch and then twist the wires off. That way you wont have little pieces hanging off the end asking to touch your chimney (shorts).

Perfect. :) I think I can do that...can prob screw it up too, but I think I can do it.
