Yes indeed , too little cotton and that sound is noticeable, in the times I have under wicked , I can definitely hear that sound and instantly know. I figure though, that even when wicked perfectly, it's there, but very faint . I have been listening to this for a couple years, and when my wicks have that ever so faint hiss for a split second after, they seem to perform better then if they absolutely don't hiss at all, which happens with slightly more wicking material. I'm a freak, I know.

Oh I know, I'm a wick-maniac too. I consider 9 out of 10 wicks not optimal.
I always aim for _that perfect wick_ and when I've found it, it usually lasts me for two or three weeks. I'ld love to have it on all my atties at the same time. The KM3 seems to be really forgiving though.

I agree, a silent "post-hissing" is good, long, noticeale "hush" means not enough wicking material.

Turtle, now I am going to say this once on behalf of those of us who want a constructive thread about the SM KM3. If you don't have anything positive to add to this discussion then please kindly stay away. Your sarcasm and your Joe Friday rants are not welcome. Is this clear?

I'm glad I'm not alone on this, I mean all my rewicks are good but when you get that absolutely perfect one, it's noticeable, so I have always paid special attention to it and honestly listening to it has helped a little . It seems to me that if your going to error, it should be on the thicker size of a wick because it's safer. If you go to thin on a wick, you are very close to dry hits, but if just right, a thinner wick does perform better, so by listening to it, at least in my mind, I can get that tipping point dialed in better

When you pull your wick thru the coil, how much resistance are you getting? (You mostly use rayon, correct?) I keep trying rayon and it doesn't work well. With cottons I use a lot less in the coil and it always works.
That is the 10k dollar question isn't it? It's hard to describe this and it depends. Yes I use rayon, but I don't twist the rayon at all as I slide thru because I use a lower gauge wire. So this resistance can differ if someone twists up their wicks before hand. All I can say , it's a decent amount of restriction but it's not moving my coil or anything. Also it's more then the initial restriction, it's how it feels at rest when your doing that little shimmy back &forth
