Battery Life Decreasing Rapidly?

Hi,

I've been using my joye 510 for about 3 weeks now. I'm switching out between 1 mega battery, 2 regular batteries, and a passthrough. The battery life was just fine for me up until the past few days... and now I'm noticing my batteries are dying extremely quickly, maybe after about 30-45 minutes of use, where they used to last for at least a couple hours...

is it normal for the batteries to start 'wearing out' this quickly? Is the problem my batteries or my charger? Would like to hear any of your experiences or thoughts.

Thanks!

510 batts die in about an hour to an hour and a half, even sooner if your atomizers are low resistance. Ego class batteries are a good buy, especially since twice the price gets you several times the charge life.

I still use 510 batts for my 306 attys with a drip tip to provide a ready change from whatever I'm vaping in my Ego-T. Every time I turn around, I'm getting blue flashing lights. It's just a fact of life with small batteries. You can estimate useful vaping time by dividing the mah rating by 100. A 180mah batt will get you about 1 1/2 hours. A 650 mah batt will last you for 6 hours plus. This will vary based on how often you hit the button and for how long.

Me and my wife bought our first kits the same day. I bought the eGo starter kit, she bought a Joye 510 starter kit because she wanted something similar to an analog. Within the first week she was ordering an eGo because she was charging two 510 batteries up to 3 times per day, whereas two fully charged eGo's would last me all day. The difference was very obvious, and made her regret her decision to go with the Joye 510

What atomizers or cartos are you using and what resistance/ohms? Are you using anything you were not using when the batteries lasted longer?

My standard Joye 510 batteries last 2-3 hours as expected. I am using standard resistance cartomizers (Boge) and sometimes a standard resistance Joye 306 atty and drip tip. My megas last 3-5 hours. I vape moderately - maybe 3-5 drags over every 10 minutes and my batteries are 3 months old. Note - Don't use LR attys or cartos on the slim batteries - the internal electronics of the slim batteries can be fried by the higher power draw of LRs.

You are using a PT? Exactly what is your electrical setup when using the PT while charging a battery? What is the battery plugged into? And what is the PT plugged into?

That PT should be on its own AC to USB 2 amp max or an AC to USB sold as for the PT. A few PTs can run off a PC's 500mA but I would be wary of charging my batteries on the same PC's USB at the same time. Is it possible your batteries are not getting properly and evenly charged? I use a 4-port 2amp AC to USB for charging my batteries.

That's pretty normal for an average to heavy vaper (like me) I started with the standard 510 and had an eGo on order within the week. I wanted to use one that was the size/shape of a cig, and at the time eGo's were relatively new (or hadn't come out yet, can't remember) so nobody was recommending them. IMO, eGo is the new 510 - I think 510 use will die out in favor of eGo/Riva (etc) use pretty soon because the batteries are just so pitiful.

Here's a funny (short) video for you: YouTube - 4 Stages of Vaping

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the replies. I have tried cleaning all my contacts and that hasn't seemed to have helped, generally been trying to keep them clean anyway. Not sure what would have changed from before because I'm pretty sure there's nothing new in the mix here..

Using joye 510 atomizers, not sure what the 306 attys even are. Not using anything LR, my cartos are the uh. SLB? no idea on the resistance/ohms though. But nothing new, same stuff I was using when the battys were workin.

As far as the PT, I don't have an A/C to USB yet so it was just hooked up to my computer USB, and it would seem that the other batteries should be getting a charge fine, so I don't know. I'm about at my wits end with it so I'll probably end up upgrading when I've got some extra cash, of course that is if I don't go into a huge nic fit and chuck the whole deal first. Since I already have a bunch of attys and parts for the stinkin 510 I'll be looking at mods next I suppose.

Anyway thank you all again for all of the advice.

Standard PTs suck more than 500mA of power. Supposedly the 510 one with the built in inline battery sucks less power. A PC is only specced to provide 500mA of power. An unpowered USB hub would only provide 500mA divided amongst the devides attached to it (i.e. if one is using 400mA when active then there is only 100mA left for other devices at those times).

That is why I am wondering about how they are being charged. I don't have any issues at all with my 510 batteries - I'm using a mega and 3 standard ones, 3 are Joye and one is not and all continue to give me the expected amount of charge time. I use Rosewill 4-port 2amp USB to AC adapter to charge any variety of 4 batteries. Some use a similar adapter from Walmart.

Good luck.

I had the same problem---I vape a lot. Ikenvape (a supplier) has a very very good write up about batteries that even I could undertand pretty well. I bought ego types right after reading it. Just to keep it simple, don't try and figure out everything about atty's yet---I was lost when I first went there---but do read the battery write up. Bought my first ego type right after reading it without hesitation. I'd post a link but I haven't learned how to do that yet!

And, don't dis 510's too much-- regular 510 atty's are very popular---(with some opinions on brands) and many Mods use 510 threads. Your 510 atty will fit on the ego type "big bats" -- the 650 Mah ones (and larger)-- JOY Ego, Riva & Tornado----and probably other brands. As Mega is used for different things, I'm not sure if you have one long one or one fat one!

I do suggest buying a kit -- two (fat) batts, atty (or two) & charger & most likely some filled cartriges. Usually kit is cheaper than buying parts & OK to have a back up chargers. You can re-fill the carts.

Now, after reading the article you may want to know where to get the "freshest" batteries. I think that is where brand and supplier reputation comes to mind. So, using ECF supporters may be a good start in that direction.

OK - usually by the time I get my post done there has been several more similar replies -- I am hoping that this helps and imparts some new info for you.

All rechargable batteries will lose their ablity to soak up current as they are used, that's why most will say 'can be charged upto xxx times'. They lose some of their power with each use and need to be replaced. Car, phone, PC's and ecigs, they won't last forever.

..yes, which is one way that the larger batteries end up saving you money in time. If I recharge my eGo batts once a day, they will eventually last me nearly a year (is it was, they lasted me 10 months). But if I have 510 batts, I'll end up recharging them 3-4 times a day each so they will last only about 3 months instead.

Well.. when the batteries were workin I was only chargin them once a day if that.. Didnt even have to charge each battery up every day... Until now.. Im charging them constantly... Will check out the write up mentioned but I am thinking I may just try to unload some of whats still workin in the classifieds and if I cant go cold turkey now after being without a few weeks then maybe ill try again with a better unit after I recoup some of the 400-something I already spent on this junk. Sorry for whining but Im ........ Wish Id have known the batteries are more disposable than the attys.. I know the rest of u seem to be doing ok with them but my batteries are from two diff vendors and... Basically I give up but thanks for tryin to help and give me some info.
