I think I’m stuck in a transition phase. If I have them, I smoke them. If I don’t have them, I’m panicking about not having them. And round and round I go.

I don’t have any now, and haven’t had any since Thursday, and I’m panicking. It’s a really messed up thing that your brain goes through. I have much respect for anyone who has been through this or drug/alcohol addiction. I’m a well educated, accomplished, productive member of society. And yet it’s HARD for me to get a grip on myself. It sounds ridiculous, which is why I think this forum is so helpful. You guys get it. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!
I was just the opposite. I knew if I had any, I would find a reason ( any reason would do) to smoke them. So I resisted the urge to buy another pack. It became a game of sorts- sometimes it was no big deal, other times it was a huge temptation...but I knew if I bought them, I had thrown away any progress I had made and it was back to square one. I dreamed about smoking them, and would wake up so ...... at myself....then realize it was a dream and I hadn't lost any ground. *Happy dance*. This still happens to me on occasion.

It took me longer to reprogram my brain than to reprogram my body, but I got there. Today is 5 years without a cigarette, and I am DAMN proud of it! If I can give it up after 40+ years, you can too.

Be strong, it pays off in the long run.

Big congrats on 5 years Bolivar! Cheers and well done!

And, as Bolivar says, jtbje, you can do it too.

Week 3, if I remember correctly, was magic for me. Started really hard, but it was "in like a lion, out like a lamb." I remember thinking, I've made it this far - why am I even thinking of having a smoke after this torture? But by the end of it, at a month, it became so easy! That's when I felt like it was cheating, because I started wanting to taste the vape instead of the smoke. At 3 months, I knew I was out of the woods, no problem, so I tried a cigarette just to see...and it was pretty nasty afterward. I could feel & smell the poison, and knew I'd never go back.

This was me 9 years ago. I had a pack 'just in case' when I first tried vaping and of course, I smoked them a few at a time during that first week. I knew I couldn't keep them around but I had panic attacks just thinking about waking up in the middle of the night and not having them. I finally realized that the worst scenario would be getting in the car and driving to a gas station to buy them if I absolutely had to. After that, it got easier. I never bought another pack and never smoked another one.

I would also wake up panicked after dreaming that I had smoked. It was so weird and I still have them but not very often. The psychological addiction is way stronger than the physical one imo.

edit to add to 'best part:' not wasting time going for smoke breaks and not cleaning those smelly ash trays.

Thank you. I’ve tried to go easy on myself, and haven’t had an analog in a few days so my mind is playing tricks on me tonight. I’m gonna make it!!

You nailed it. The brain likes to mess with you. You are getting the nicotine you need but your brain tells you that you need a smoke. It's been hard-wired after years of smoking. Tell your brain to pound sand and reach for your vape.

    It gets better.

I’m craving a cigarette pretty bad tonight so I thought it would help to line out all the pros of vaping so far, and read anyone’s input as well.

Best things about vaping (newbie perspective)...

Might want to Include being able to walk up Two Flights of Stairs, 2 at a time, and Not Felling like you just did a 10K Charity Run.

Congrats on 5 years! I made it through the night, and I’m doing ok. Stories like yours really help to keep sight of what could be.

The ashtrays are sooo smelly. I’m keeping one around as a reminder (and I’m never tempted to smoke butts out of the ashtray because GAG)

Find flavors you truly enjoy, and stick with them.
Just my opinion, but newcomers need to find flavors they will keep going back to. Equipment changes, and chasing after the "bright, new, and shiny" gets expensive. But flavors you love will keep you around.
I’ve found only one flavor out of about a dozen that I really like, and it’s nic salts so once I get past this hump I’ll have to figure out how to reduce the nic. But I’m not there yet lol

    BEST part of vaping...
Not dying of tobacco related illness has a lot going for it.
Definitely. I’m watching my mom die of small cell lung cancer and hearing her chest rattle and watching her skin turn grey is really something. I wish I could say it didn’t take that as a motivator. I’m pretty bitter about it as of now.

I have so much support between you guys and my family, and yet it’s still a difficult transition. But I made it through the night so I guess I’m on day 5! Now to keep it up.

I made it through the evening, the mind is a crazy animal. But I made it aaaaand I have shiny mail coming today! Uwell Whirl and a bubblegum flavored juice. Also, the Smok Novo died over the weekend (in another post) but I took it all apart last night and cleaned the contacts and it works again!! So things are looking up. Thank you guys for the votes of confidence, sharing your stories, and adding to the list of BEST things about vaping. I’m so determined it’s ridiculous, I stay on these forums and watching videos and trying to learn learn learn all day and it’s helping to have something else to focus on. Much love from Texas!

    Keep it up jt.
Yeah, your mind can do some crazy stuff at times. I find tinkering with stuff keeps my brain occupied.

    Now to the point about favorites;
First off I'm a get off my lawn grumpy guy who at times will light up to chase off people I don't like.

Don't like my smell, then get outta my 3 foot circle. Don't like the smell of my house, leave.

My kids don't smoke. They think smoking tobacco is stupid. I did not teach them that. They learned by watching their grand parents make awful noises after waking up each day, and their logic decided spending money on that was dumb.

    - Now my favorite part of vaping is the flavor.
    - Next is while driving, no noise from a cracked window whistle makes the drive more peaceful.
    - Then sneaking a puff in forbidden locations keeps that rebellious voices in my brain quiet.

I’m pretty grumpy too, and luckily I’ve managed to wrangle my way out of city life. No one for miles around me, I work at home, so does my husband. We homeschool so no schools or teachers to contend with. Amazon is my best friend because it keeps me out of stores.
So yeah, I’m way out here with my chickens in the name of being as far away from people as possible. I’ve found that only makes me smoke more!!! There’s no “normal” people to keep me in check!

Thank you for the favorites, I vaped on an elevator at the hotel this weekend and it did feel pretty rebellious. I like it!!
