Thank you!!! The small successes sure do feel good.

Yes they do. You should be proud of yourself for today's accomplishment. This whole quitting thing is baby steps, not huge leaps. You got this, you just don't realize it yet.

Throw them out? Save them for emergency?? This is my dilemma. What do y’all think?

My older brother kept open packs of Winstons on his bedroom nightstand, in his car, on his fireplace mantle, and several other places....when he quit smoking "cold turkey" after more than 48 years of a 2 pack a day habit. He said it worked for him because he could make the decision to not have 1, even though they were right there. Said it prevented any "gotta run to the store" anxious thoughts when a craving hit. He always decided not to have one, and those packs stayed right where they were for at least a year afterwards. Then he tossed them.
This is what I did personally as well. I kept my open pack in the car with 7 in them for about 6 months and a pack unopened in the freezer for a year. The nice thing about that was the false sense of security. If I chose to have one, I could no matter where I was. Funny thing was about 4 months into it, my battery died at work right after lunch. Being an hour ride home, I decided I would rather wait that hour and keep vaping because the taste was to bad to want to smoke for that ride home.
On a different note, have you ever thought about vaping non flavored Ejuice? That was my flaw. I couldn't stand vaping flavored and smoking as it was like brushing your teeth and then drinking a glass of OJ, just didn't mix well. Unflavored 24 mg on a 1.6 ohm coil at 7-8 watts is what got me to quit smoking. Still do Unflavored 85% of the time. Flavor will never disappoint me. ;) After I quit is when I ventured into flavored as I could taste it better.
Thank you guys for all your support and kind words. I’m sure you all know this, but this forum is incredibly helpful. Almost like an AA meeting for smokers. Smokers Anonymous? I wonder if that’s what keeps lots of you posting here 5, 7, 9 years after you quit. Either way, I appreciate you.
People like you and everyone else here is what keeps me here. I had a lot of help and learn a lot about vaping here. I like to pass along the knowledge and help out whenever possible to help pay back this wonderful community!! Keep Up The Great Work!!! You Got This @jtbje !!!!

I read your posts jtbje....I know you feel the need to have the spares around. So keep em around if you must.

For me, I paralleled for two weeks. I had a carton I was finishing up, and new vape gear (OMG...cigalikes and then eGo style, with dripping into old-style atomizers). I was going to make darn sure that the e-cigs worked. I think I had a full day of no smoking or two in there. But eventually I finished up the cigs....and that was it. Done. Finí.

I seriously suggest not having any around, despite what you said about the anxiety. BUT...that only works if you're confident in your vaping gear and setup, and you're not there yet I guess.

So that's what I'd focus on, getting the vaping working for you. You'll make the switch however YOU choose to make it. Don't worry too much right now on counting the other cigs, focus instead on getting the vaping working.

There's a minor/slight withdrawal that you go through due to the 1000's of chemicals in cigs, but with vaping and the nic, it helps out both the nic cravings and the action/habit. And the flavors are FUN, so don't forget the fun part to keep you focused on something new, and direct your attention away from the cigs.

I actually started with a bunch of flavorings and DIY ing the e-juce so I could tinker with that and keep myself busy. ;) But just having a few (or 20) sample flavors around might be enough. They sell samplers for relatively low cost...again, fun. Something to look forward to, rather than focusing on what you think is missing.

Just :2c:

I was fortunate to switch 100% the first time I used an actual set up. After 44 years of pad smoking menthols. Cigalikes did nothing for me, even at 24mg. I tossed them & kept smoking. I used an Ego & Clearomiser & a 24mg peppermint & straight menthol juices.
I was beyond shocked. I was in a total state of disbelief. So much so, that I didn't throw out my last pack of cigs. I had bought 2 carto mb s of cigs & on impulse got the single set up & juices, too. That was the morning of day 1. By day 3 I went back to my tobacco shop & returned the unopened cartons & got backup vape gear & more juices. By then, I had quit smoking. Didn't miss it a bit. And I'd been a dedicated, diehard smoker. I enjoyed everything about it. I lol'd at people who told me to quit. My Drs didn't even bring it up anymore.
I left that last pack of cigs & the lighter sitting in their usual place next to the door where I went out to smoke. Put my vape right next to them. I knew the cigs were there & I could have one at any time. And everytime I reached for the vape. I'd discovered juice came in some really delicious flavors. WHAT?! I tried to smoke a cig a couple of times, & it tasted & smelled so disgusting I couldn't do it. My point being I left myself the choice. Vape or smoke. I chose everytime I headed to the door. I could pick up either one. And the Castle Long Reserve was so tasty & the vape so satisfying that I kept choosing the vape. Never ecf id desire another cig & that was 4.5 years ago. I was 60 when this happened.
I finally gave the remains of that last pack, with it's lighter, to the neighbor kid. He was pacing up & down the sidewalk waiting for his mom to get home from work with his cigs. I felt sorry for him. He knew I was a vaper but I don't preach about vaping or smoking. I wait to be asked & briefly tell them my story, offer my phone# for if they want to talk about it later. Many call.

I’ve been chain-vaping my *** off

from Spinfuel:

There is something, some truth that is spoken about in e-cigarette forums dozens, maybe hundreds, of times a day that for the most part all Vapers know to be true but others, non-Vapers, do not know. It is this; Vapers vape a lot more than smokers smoke.

We all know this to be true. Hell, if I counted the number of puffs/drags I take everyday from my e-cigarette and applied that number to tobacco cigarettes I would be in the category of a “4+ packs a day” smoker.

I’m a chain Vaper, like tens of thousands of others, I vape all the time. Why not? It’s safe. Harmless even. Hell, maybe even beneficial to lung health. And cheap. There isn’t a single reason that I can see for not vaping anytime I have the urge. I call it ‘pacify vaping’

I work with chickens on our free range egg farm. They are nowhere near as cute as yours, though the odd clucky hen resemble them ;)

If you get anxious due to not having any cigarettes, always keep some handy. This worked for me when I quit. I never smoked any, but just knowing they were there took away that extra stress.

A change in your routine helps when quitting too - having your vaping aunt there gives you the perfect opportunity to knock those last few cigarettes out of your day.

    Good luck :)

I switched very quickly. That being said, I got an attitude with the 10 reasons that I wrote down. They had been on my mind for quite awhile.

I started at a very high Nic content. I got the Nic. I basically vaped about the same as I smoked, so breaks stayed the same. I had spares so there was no excuse.

I gotta say, the attitude helps a lot.

I didn't care about flavor since my tastebuds were so messed up.

The only thing that mattered was getting the Nic, when I needed/wanted it.

No flash, no bang, just getting the Nic. Often for stress, but taking a vape break is good.

An attitude helped me. Smoking is disgusting and harmful in many ways. I got a 'tude. ;)

don't beat yourself up.... as long as you are reducing smoking then you are doing good...
you say you have 35 mg in salt nic and only 6mg in freebase? That's a big jump in nic levels....the 6mg isn't going to be able to satisfy your cravings as well as the 35mg... any reason for the big difference?
Typically I'd suggest higher mg levels with starting out to combat the cravings, because keep in mind, you're also quitting all the other crap that comes with smoking....so you need higher nicotine to counteract the additives you are no longer getting
now nic salts are nice because they are not as harsh at higher nic levels....but if you need a throat hit then use higher freebase nic or more pg in the juice than vg....if you want less throat hit then use more vg than pg in the juice or of course also use nic salts instead

just keep limiting your smoking and vape on eventually you'll find it much easier to switch.

My intention was to vape the nic salts at all the “crucial” smoking times, when I wake up, after I eat, etc. and then the lower nic for all the times in between when I’m just accustomed to smoking. I agree though I need to up it and have a constant supply of high nic at least for now. I plan on mixing some up today, kind folks here helped me with all the horrible aweful terrible math and I think I’m ready.

Hi friends! Just thought I’d drop in and give an update.

My aunt did indeed come to visit, along with all of her vape stuff.

I got to try an assortment of flavors and found out I do not like tobacco flavor, or orange, or lychee.

I did, however, smoke my tail off the whole weekend. This is my mom’s sister and she is very Cajun and emotional and there was a lot of crying (over my mom) and my other aunt came and there were kids everywhere and it was just chaos. Utter chaos.

So yeah. The experiment did not go well. Interesting to note my BODY feels horrible today (and yesterday) and as soon as my house was empty and scrubbed down I was back to vaping. I’ve smoked 2 cigarettes since Sunday morning.

So the experiment failed, but I’m back on the wagon. I ordered some 50mg salts today in (hopefully) tasty flavors and some new pods for my little pod vape.

I am tempted to go buy Juul to get me by until they get here, just to see if higher nic really will put the nail in the coffin.

I started paying my mom’s bills this month. She is 56 and very upset about this. They don’t teach a class on how to behave when your parents die young.

If you’re willing, call your moms/dads/siblings/grandmas/grandpas/best oldest friends tomorrow. Do it for me. Time is slipping away.

Off my soapbox now, and into bed. My aunt brought me a Bluetooth sleep mask...I did not even know such a thing existed. It’s combating my insomnia quite nicely.

    Sweet dreams from Texas.

That Wasn't a Failure. Things are Only a Failure if you Don't get something out of them.

You know that an e-Cigarette can work. And you're Back on Track. That's what Matters.

It seems like I picked the vape up out of habit, kind of hard to explain but almost like vaping is becoming more normal than smoking if that makes sense. Like my body felt relieved when it was all over with and I could resume my vape routine.

This is why I’m so baffled about the smoking anxiety. I obviously like vaping more. But those pesky cigarettes, I just can’t quite completely remove myself from them. I’m really hopeful for higher nic. I guess we will see how it goes. Thanks for the encouragement along the way.

From what I've read on ECF, it seems as though a lot of people who eventually stopped dual using did so almost behind their own backs: one day, they just didn't buy any more cigarettes or they just didn't bother to light up. I think maybe that will happen to you.
