Just a quick post. Have had to finish up bidness stuff.

First of all.....I don't believe it was astrology. I believe it to be astronomy. There was something VERY different in the skies that these 3 kings in their own right saw that was astounding and odd. Planets don't twinkle but they are huge in comparison to stars. I have no idea what they saw, but like I said, it was notable by those who saw it, and inquiring minds had to know!

I'm sorry to ask this, but since I am such a simpleton, I would like to ask all the guys on the board how they would feel if they just found out they were going to be the earthly father to God. Wouldn't that scare the toga right off your back?????

On that note, as female, I would have had a nervous breakdown trying to be the Mom to Jesus. Trying to over protect Him as a child, yet being afraid to sin in front of Him?

Just thoughts!:)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! I was going to say something about being Jesus's parents too, but I didn't want to be the first one to say it!:lol:

My question is this, was Jesus a perfect child? Did Mary or Joseph ever yell at him, scold him, or typical kid stuff like that? I"m just curious..........I mean, how would you even handle something like that? I couldn't.

Nobody probably knows, but I still can't help but ask! :)

I would think His mind was quick to learn and eager to do what pleased His parents. (The only time that is written about is when He was teaching at the Temple when He was 12 years old and Joseph and Mary couldn't find Him.) I think He had a great sense of humor! I can see Him playing with other children and having a good time.

What I've always wondered is when did He know who He was....then I think of the Temple episode. How did He handle that? How did John the Baptist feel when He was talking about the coming Messiah and he looked up and saw His cousin Jesus... whoa. That had to be a heart stopping moment. You know they had to of played together when they were younger.

I know, I'm skipping ahead. But you have to count the human side along with the God side. Do I think He sinned? Scripture says no. I believe Scripture. Was there any borderline episodes? I don't think so. Scripture says it, I believe it, and that settles it!

I bet He was a beautiful child, with beautiful olive skin and curly ringlets about His head. I think His eyes danced with life. I think He was a happy child...bringing joy to those around Him. What does everyone else think?

I'll be back sometime later. Spending some time with husband after a long week.:)

Well if you remember when Jesus went to the temple and mom & dad couldn't find Him....and He said what he did about His Father's house.....the scripture ends by saying He went with them and "was subject unto them". Very human relation/statement here. Anybody remember what it was like to be "subject unto them"? Where I grew up that was not a good thing. lol

Wow, so you think that Jesus was disciplined by his parents? That's hard to even imagine! LOL!

remember He was not born full grown...Bible says he grew in wisdom & stature. He was a kid and I'd say he learned by hard knocks like the rest of us. I would venture out to say that He probably heeded wisdom, took advice and perhaps showed more respect to parents/elders than we do/did. Beyond that, Joe & Mary would have been faithful Jews, hence "train up a child in the way he should go". Discipline would certainly be part of that.

I would venture that as parents Joseph and Mary were not overly protective of Jesus, I mean his was God's only begotten son. I believe God looked out for him and kept him safe from anything dangerous. He did warn Joseph in a dream to move the family because of Herod. He also told both Mary and Joseph (many times) "Be not afraid". With that kind of reassurance I certainly wouldn't have fear. Knowing your were raising the Son of God, how could you not but feel protected as his parents. Did they have to discipline Jesus, most probably. It is my understanding that Jesus did not understand who he really was until later in life. He truly understood who he was when He was baptized by John the Baptist and also when he was tested with the 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness...but that is getting way ahead of this conversation...sorry about that.

I believe it was truly an act of God to have the star in the east to guide the Magi to Jesus. I had never given much thought to the fact that there is no mention of shepherds in other books of the New Testament.

I do have one question however, the genealogy is so carefully laid out as to the line of Jesus's family tree but isn't it through the mother that the question of being "Jewish" is answered now? I say this because my father immigrated here from Germany after the war. His mother was Jewish and converted to Catholicism, while she was young, but had she remained Jewish would not my father and his 8 siblings have all been Jewish? If so, then why all the detailing of Jesus's lineage? Was that to show he was a rightful king as the son of David?

GREAT JOB Southern Gent! Thank you for all your hard work typing all of that up for us and your explanations of the layers of meanings to certain words.

What we know from our Bibles is very little about Jesus' homelife.
1. Hometown - Nazareth of Galilee (a town with a bad reputation, cf. Jn 1:46).
2. Regarded as a son of Joseph (Jn 6:42).
3. Family occupation: Carpenter (Mt 13:55).
4. There were other children in the home (Mt 12:46; 13:55; Mk 6:3; Jn. 2:12). Their names were: James, Joses, Simon, and Judas. He also had sisters who are not named.
5. Family regularly attended synagogue worship on the Sabbath (Lk 2:27,41).
6. Joseph probably died before Jesus was 30 years old since he is not mentioned in any reference to the family after the 12 year old incident (Lk 2:39-51), and Jesus gives His mother over to the care of John at His crucifixion (Jn. 19: 26-27).

Matthew's gospel was written directly to the Jewish people so it would be absolutely vital that He/Jesus be in the lineage of David.

If His birth name is Immanuel, why don't we just use that?

I suppose that we could without any problem especially among believers. For those who don't know recognize the name it might be confusing. The name "Jesus" on the other hand is recognized by most all people. I do know of some very rigid teaching/churches who refuse to use the name "Jesus" and it's use is somewhat frowned upon.

Where did the name Yeshua come from?
