tobacco branding was banned from F1 in 2006. This was done in compliance to many countries advertising laws in regards to tobacco. Post ban Ferrari has been in trouble more than a few times for their livery mimicking the Marlboro red and white chevron (if that is how to describe it).

This current ban is due to pressures from WHO (World Health Organization), and not the F1 governing body who was in support of the Mission Winnow, and Vype sponsorship of selected teams. And again in compliance to regional laws. Both Ferrari and McLaren had to alter their liveries in order to compete in this years Australia and Canada GP’s

Alcohol branding is also banned on selected F1 circuits.

Honestly, it's good marketing. Perhaps I am jaded but like, if I can think of anyone willing to buy tobacco its racecar fans. Like that movie, I forget. With Will Ferrell in it.

To be fair, no tobacco companies shouldn't be able to ruin race cars. What would you do if your favorite driver advertised for Basics.

I'm sorry. I know it's serious. I need levity.

Wee-eel, been to Daytona and Indianapolis. But, no. Not really.

And you?
I used to joke that NASCAR stood for Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks.

But then one February a few years ago, a friend of mine from Germany who'd never been to FL before was staying with us for a bit, and I asked him what he'd like to do/see. "Is there anything to see at the Daytona International Speedway?" So I checked. "Well, the Daytona 500 is next weekend." Sadly, just 10 days before the race, the only tickets available were infield, standing-room only, which didn't really appeal to me much. But the tickets for the qualifying "Duel" qualifying races a coupla nights earlier were no problem, so we went. It was actually way better than I was expecting.

Now you you know the biggest thing wrong with F1 these days? No only have they banned all tobacco-related advertising, but they got rid of the grid girls too.

You Lucky Logan; those are the best seats (so to speak). lol.

Several years back, I got talked into going to the Indy 500. What a s-show that was. Reminds me of the Grateful Dead. I saw them in six different cities seven different times: half on other people's dime. What did the deadhead say when he sobered up?

We don't go out much. Actually, that went under my radar. Widespread Panic really seem to rule the roost in these parts. Going to see ZZ Top and Cheap Trick in October at that there said amphitheatre. :thumb:

Been to a few big race events, never NASCAR or the Indy 500 – would love to experience them. Haven’t been to a live F1 event since the engine change to the V6 Turbo Hybrids. But the older 20k RPM V8’s was something you just had to witness. Literally takes your breath away!

There was a bid to hold a F1 race in downtown Miami – not sure where that stands or if it is even a consideration anymore.

its a shame, that laws and regulations put interest there when there is the real need of proper information, regarding side effects or also new ways of controlling or quit tobacco, i really miss ducati marlboro livery, its a shame to see out mission winnow, mostly when the company is oriented in other vision rather than tobacco,

    Regards,

What exactly does Mission Winnow do?

Big Tobacco have used many ways to get around certain advertising bans. Example: BAT sponsors Jordan F1. Hewlett Packard also sponsor Jordan F1. BAT slips HP a few bucks to run an add that displays the Jorden F1 car with Benson And Hedges livery. A law may state a tobacco company can not advertise, but states nothing about a tech companies.

Little vague don’t you think. And at the bottom of that web site is “Philip Morris Products USA”

If a regional law states tobacco companies cannot advertise in sporting events - those taking part in the event must comply. Doesn’t matter if said tobacco company has created a spin off company to save the whales, or some unknown technological company with a bunch of unknowns.

    Regards,

Whats with the “dude” comment? Just trying to have a conversation. Ferrari receives funding from Philip Morris, that is not the issue. The issue is advertising a Philip Morris brand. That goes against regional laws and is being questioned by the World Health Organisation.

It also becomes difficult for a sporting event to air over TV in countries that have stricter advertising laws – another reason why the tobacco ban was put into place.

I get you enjoyed the tobacco liveries of yesteryear, so did I. But I am not making the laws which are put in place for a reason.

no no, sorry if sounded hostile, but thing was about mission winnow, gotta get my eyes used to this over the time, but i see no real reason why they should stop branding from another project, brand or campaing not even when the main subsidiary or owners may be related to tobacco!
