Okay, good to know, thank you. My other question now pertains to HV. It seems as though strictly dripping HV devices is the way to go, but it can be a pain as it requires repeatedly tending to the atty which is a pain especially while driving (I know its not recommended to drip & drive, LOL). I imagine the primary issue with carts of any type & HV is the potential for melting/overheating the cart &/or its components. Any thoughts on how to use one of these cart mods for HV?
I altered my cart for HV dripping (which I gutted free from polyfill or any similar material) & cut a millimeter or two off the bottom to minimize risks of contact with the bridge so as to never have to worry about lining it up right & therefore dodging the melting cart possibility. Could something like this coupled with a foam plug, slug, etc work? Obviously there needs to be some contact with the bridge for the juice to wick towards it, but too much contact at HV & you'll probably have a burning/melting mess.
I love vaping & dislike having to refill frequently as you all must agree as its the reason for these mods in the first place. I also dig HV vaping but it comes with the added burden of frequently dripping- just looking for a longer-lasting solution to HV vaping.
Thanks,
NickyJ

Give it a shot.. Others have mentioned using it with the original plug. I wish i could test it myself but i didnt get a 510 adaptor with my order as they forgot it.

It should work fine though.. Try the plug and then try the slug.. then try the 3rd one hehe.

In thiery it should work well as this is made to wick like a mother! Wont hold your juice back like the poly ect.

Its not really even a burnt taste, more like a slight chemical taste. I have all my carts lined up right and I will try a different atty today and washing them in smaller strips. Thanks so much for all the wonderful directions and pic BTW. Other than the taste, I am really enjoying this mod. I tried the #1 of the mod in my whistle tips and it works great too and I use thin PG juice.

I get the taste as well, kind of sweet chemical taste. I washed foam and it's still there. I also noticed that there is a slight greasy feel to the foam, and when I dripped into the foam it seemed to repel the juice and it would bead, like water on a waxed car. This seems to imply it is treated with something. I just gave some of my precut plugs an everclear bath. I can't tell if the taste is gone as it's in my tongue now and I'll have to wait until my taste buds clear, but it no longer feels greasy and doesn't repel the juice like before.

Hey I was thinkin, am I doing something wrong because a lot of times, my atty will taste dry yet my cartridge is full. Am I not cutting my filterpad long enough? Too wide?

Might be.. I have not noticed that happening since i've gone to the straw method.

I've been using the slug at 3 16ths wide and 3/4" long. The natural thickness of the foam is 1/4" and i lay the slug in with the 1/4 part from edge to edge. The 3 16ths is the thickness and obviously the 3/4" length is layed out long ways in the cart.

Make sure to fill the cart about an 8th of an inch below the top edge if your using the straw and insert the slug by holding it in the middle with the tweezers. Make sure its down all the way. Then also push down on the sides of the slug as well with the tweezers. Doing this will makes sure all the air is out of the chamber. Then stick your tweezers again in the middle of the slug and spread the 2 halfs apart over and over to give a good path for the atty bridge to rest. Now at this point if the plug looks dry at the top, then add another drop or 2. Then insert it into the atty.

I have still to use a new slug so mine may be broken in pretty good by now hehe..

I also usually pad the slug dry when i go to refill it.. You dont want any gummed up old juice in there causing probs with the venting or wicking.

You could always just try cutting the slug a little shorter if by chance your juice is really thick.. if thats causing the problem wicking.

Oh and make sure you have a good charge on the battery.. Heat is what pulls (wicks) in the juice.

Strange.. I've noticed after i give it a good wash that its lighter in color. So that could be why i'm not tasting it. I'm probably removing the top coat your talking about.

Just using hand soap..

When i first started messing with the plug i tried using dish soap and that was no good as i could'nt rinse that soap out good enough and it tasted weird after that.

I cut a new piece and scrummed it good with the liquid hand soap and its working great for me.

I also could taste the blue foam, and it felt filmy/greasy. After trying numerous methods I finally put all the sheets in the top of the dishwasher and ran in through a complete light cycle without soap, and the film is gone along with the smell.

heh i guess all soap isint created equal.. Great tip though and i might try that once.. when the wife aint home to see! hehe

I'm using just a regular foam filler, replacing the polyfill. Not gotten into the slug stuff yet, but I have the whistle-tip carts, and version 2 wasn't recommended for those, so I improvised.

I had to wash my filters twice. The first time I washed it, I apparently didn't rinse it very well, because I tasted chemicals/soap. After the second washing, it was fine. So, perhaps wash, rinse, repeat is in order?

Yup, or a good theral first wash..

Basicly, wash the crap out of it.. Dry and hold it up to some non washed stuff. If you dont notice the stuff you just washed looking much lighter then the non washed.. Wash again.

all this is really a waste of time....i use blue foam and just cut it so its a little wider than the cart and pretty much flush with the top (901 whistle tip)....it takes like 10 seconds to make and i can almost fill cart full of juice before putting foam in.....all this extra work and hassle is for maybe for an extra drop or two???also when i get a funny taste so i know i have to refill the foam is almost completely dry...blue foam is the ticket and there is no need to mess around with anything else

I've done that LONG time ago.. I cut it a bunch of different sizes and it would not wick good after the first 4-5 hits.. ended up being much the same as using poly.

I'm glad i had saved the bag i bought as i thought i was out $10 for trying it.

SO.. I've tried all ways and the plug/slug/shotgun all work and work perfect. I bet you have not and will not try mine.Maybe if ya did you may see the light.

Oh, i've read up in the original thread and seen others say that it had to be cut perfectly to wick good.. in the end whats the point? Cut a big piece or cut a tiny piece? I'd cut a small piece..

Do this test:

Try them side by side. One your way and one with the slug. Pull the foam out of each when the cart seems dry. Place the foam on a flat paper towel. Either just let it sit for a couple of mins or squeeze the piece with the other half of the towel. Then look at the wet spot. Which looks larger??

Dont forget to look in the cart as well.. but i bet the foam will be holding most of it near the end.

Just one comment on this, not to promote any particular mod but just to point out a physical fact. Most, not all, 510/901 carts have two ridges on the inside. (the ones from TW that are the 'two piece' type carts like the 801 are different). But the size of the plug matters in the ones that have those horizontal 'ridges' inside because the foam because it's coarser than oem filler, acts much like a horizontal spring mod and has some tension on the sides - a bigger sized plug (even with no straw support) is more likely not to get shoved down past those ridges.

Kent.. not trying to be mean but its hard to understand your post. Proof read and correct please.. Maybe had a few too many beers or were tired. hehehe.

Are you saying that the carts that TW sells are different from the norm? Cause thats where i bought my carts from and they have the 2 lips/ridges in them.

I've tried a bigger plug and it dont wick as good.. basicly way my plug/slug/shotgun are all the same width as thats where the sweet spot is for me.

Wow! Long thread!

Just letting you know I'm diggin' the plug v1! What a difference!

I was FINALLY able to find the Marineland foam today and snatched a package. I tried all versions (except the shotgun) and decided plug/v1 works for me.

Thanks!

Sherry

Oh, I did cut it a bit wider than you suggested...mine is just a tad shy of 1/2" and works great.
