A few days back we saw some folks talking about the blue foam mod and we bought some at PetSmart. We really like it. We have had no problems with leaking or running into the atty. We just like the fact that it does not taste like a burnt stuffed toy! I think if anyone is having problems with leaking, they ar just not putting enough blue in or putting too much juice. I can't imagine having to do the bit with the straw and the foam. My god - what a project that would become!

Another ploy to keep the foam in place so it doesn't get pushed down and doesn't get snatched up by the metal mesh would be to use a spring horizontally and 'sew' (by just turning the end of the spring into) the bottom of the foam.

With no straws around and using flat tips, I discovered that horizontal spring method is a good fit, it sits nicely as a bridge to hold the foam.
I find this foam mod great in terms of getting the max out of my juice.
Will have to try the straw too.

I put a straw in with my foam plug, just fyi. I'll say no more. This is eclypse's thread.... and he's a good brainstormer ;-)

Tried this today and it worked great. I got a 3 hr vape of consistent draws before I tasted atomizer. When I did taste atomizer I looked and there was still 1/4 of a cart of juice so maybe I cut the foam too wide or put it in skinny side up.

I didn't have the proper sized drinking straw so I used two coffee stirrers with two v shapes cut out on each end and vent's cut in the middle as well... like this...

>==<>==<

The 'equals' symbols represent the straw body and the 'less than greater than' symbols represent the cuts.

I'm too new to have tried your old mods in the past but I'm going to give v2 a go just to experiment... people seemed to like it a lot and especially with the thicker liquids.

I've been using rho's ptb mod since day 2 of vaping and I really enjoy it's consistency but I definitely made it longer without a topup on this mod.

Happy vaping :)

Yep, it's all good! Eclypse and I follow each other's progress and work off of it - the whole point is to build a better mousetrap and I think we're getting closer every day!

He used to tease me about changing it up so much, but now he's right there with me, lol!

I'm back to the straw and buff puff (BP) material - who knows about tomorrow! :D

I'm using the straw/slug method which seems to be working better. Does anybody else find themselves needing to hold their PV upside down to get the juice flowing or vice versa often?
It seems like I have to do this a lot to keep things balanced.

What the prob may be is that you have air trapped in between the straw and the slug.

Make sure when you fill the tank you fill it so that the jucie level is over the top of the straw. When you go to add the slug play with it a little with the tweezers so it starts to absorb the juice. I usually push down on the slug in the very center with the tweezers closed and then let them open so its spreads open the slug. So your parting the sides making room for the bridge. Doing this should also releave any air and the slug will soak up some juice. If the slug isint wet enough (usually it is by now) i'll add a drop or 2 on top.

Any air trapped in the cart chamber and it will hold the juice.

Yeah... vaped for hours without top up but as tonight progressed I found that I was having to keep my PVs led side down in between puffs to keep the atty wet and the taste consistent. This might be because I used 2x coffee stirrer instead of following the mod exact. I'll try with the proper straw next time I got to the grocery store.

On my latest top up I went back to rho-ptb which is very consistent for me.

Using the straw, the "Plug" and my ECOPure liquid, this is working perfectly. And although it defies logic, the "Slug" alone works great with my High Voltage 555. I'm still having problems getting it working with my Xhale Nuport juice but once I do, my search will be over as I those are my 3 "gotta have's".

Thanks for all the help eclypse!

Thanks for the info.. but just to let you know. Its always a good idea to keep the LED end of your PV downward. The juice will always follow gravities laws and run down. So holding it end up will make the juice run away from the coil in the atty. I dont hit mine with it pointed down ofcourse as its always tilted up so the end is pointing at my tung so i can taste the flavor. Inbetween its pointed down.

Interesting.. I have 15 flavors of Nhaler juice and have not noticed a prob wicking between the flavors. I'm always changing my juice though out the day as i'm still deciding on which i like the best.

Today i noticed a wierd taste while puffing away on the shotgun slug mod.. Then it dawned on me that it might be the straw as i remembered i did cut one a bit taller for the hell of it last night.. thinking that some may do that and it seemed fine.

Well i pull the slug out and grabbed a flash light. Noticed that i could not see the lips and that the straw must be too tall. So i pulled it out and inserted it into my modded cart where i can see the level of the straw. Yup way too tall.. It must of been getting hot and slightly started to melt the straw! Crazy.. Didnt notice last night as it was nice and wet.. when it got dry today is when it started to get hot.

So please make sure you make those straws to the length i have in the instrustions!

I ended up removing the atty for cleaning and rinsed out the cart and tossed that slug and got a new one.

EDIT: Ya know what.. could of been the slug burning but that dont make sense.

Noticed after posting this that i'm using the new flat tip 510 cart i got the other day. It seems like its made out of something different as its a shiny black plastic insted of the normal flat black like the round tips.

Is it possable what i'm tasting is the cart from overheating?? I've now stopped uing it to see if i noticed the same thing with a normal round cart.

EDIT again! hehe. Asking this as i've changed the atty, slug, straw and i'm still getting the taste when i use that flat tip cart.

Okay, I'm sorry but I haven't read every single post on this thread & am sure somebody's probably asked this, but here it goes: how about a PTB plug held with a straw? I'm sure there's something crappy about that that's far exceeded performance-wise by the fish tank filter foam, so sorry if I'm beating a dead horse with this question.

Nope, heh.. no ones asked about a PTB plug held with a straw.. No idea how that would work and i dont know if its nessisary for the PTB plug.. Might wana find the original PTB plug thread and ask there.

If you have tried the PTB Plug mod try my foam plug and compare the 2 and tell me what you think.

Personally i tried the PTB plug mod long ago.. prob the first week of vaping. Was neat how you insert the plug with that clear plastic cap.

Didnt work to well.. seemed to hold alot of juice as its so thick. Plus removing it to refill was next to impossable.

I think the PTB is already difficult to handle at full size. If you cut it smaller, as a plug, it'd be even harder and it doesn't have the same "springy" properties to hold itself in place.

Okay, good to know, thank you. My other question now pertains to HV. It seems as though strictly dripping HV devices is the way to go, but it can be a pain as it requires repeatedly tending to the atty which is a pain especially while driving (I know its not recommended to drip & drive, LOL). I imagine the primary issue with carts of any type & HV is the potential for melting/overheating the cart &/or its components. Any thoughts on how to use one of these cart mods for HV?
I altered my cart for HV dripping (which I gutted free from polyfill or any similar material) & cut a millimeter or two off the bottom to minimize risks of contact with the bridge so as to never have to worry about lining it up right & therefore dodging the melting cart possibility. Could something like this coupled with a foam plug, slug, etc work? Obviously there needs to be some contact with the bridge for the juice to wick towards it, but too much contact at HV & you'll probably have a burning/melting mess.
I love vaping & dislike having to refill frequently as you all must agree as its the reason for these mods in the first place. I also dig HV vaping but it comes with the added burden of frequently dripping- just looking for a longer-lasting solution to HV vaping.
Thanks,
NickyJ
