Y'all have got me going to YouTube to start my morning ....
My morning go to. Thanks to DP I've rediscovered how much I like DS. My only regret is I missed my last chance to see Jethro Tull live. Anything of theirs speaks to me.
Thanks PaPaw for letting your thread be hijacked. Trip down memory lane is quite enjoyable.

lol In that case thinkin' Steppenwolf at work today. Almost hit a tree one night headbangin' to them back in the day. Zepp and I bought a ditch one night. Luckily I was driving a Toyota at the time, we just picked it up and continued rockin' on down the road.

No highjacking here, just conversation. The real questions will start once I get my Pico and am trying to set it up... :confused:

They're baby-easy, unless you ask me about temperature control; in which case I'd start with, "Take a walk over to the thermostat on your wall, then..."

;):angel:

Another great MSG memory, except for when my girlfriend smacked me across the head. I guess my eyes were popping out. :unsure:

All the way up the aisles they rode...

She smacked me hard too. Wasn't very nice.

Anyone mention Zappa yet? One of the musical geniuses, and I loved what he wrote, it was so advanced for his time. LOL, my favorite place in HS to go was a bar with an (easily wiped off under age stamp) and a Zappa cover band. They were dreadful, but it was still fantastic... :)

I will admit the song "Catholic Girls" was my favorite, and that album got me into some of his weirder stuff... You can't not LOVE that album (provided you don't mind some really disgusting double meanings, which I totally do not mind, in fact I love it.

My son was having fits about some Catholic chick and his English class, finding her way annoying. I suggested he play that song... as an icebreaker. Fortunately, my son can tell when I'm kidding.

He's 20 but he's into rap mostly. Has been since little. A variety of filthy stuff wafted through my home on a daily basis (I am no advocate of censorship, so I didn't mind, but I didn't tell him I enjoyed it too. I mean, kids need their own music. These days, I just let him have at the radio and a variety of filthy things and odes to terrible stuff waft through my car, and I still like it! LOL, figure he keeps me up to date.... So no, he wasn't startled at all, though I don't think he knew the song, though I did send a YouTube vid with my post (hey, good for me getting all better at the tech stuff) but rather rapidly, I got a text, "Thanks anyway Mom, but I don't believe even YOU think this is a good idea." :lol::lol: LOL, he has my number I was mainly trying to cheer him up!

    Lol.. I absolutely and 100% agree with censorship in my own car, which I paid for, and my own home, which I also pay for.

    I always told my kids the second it was THEIR house and THEIR car, they could do whatever they pleased.

    My son, the first time he ever drove me anywhere in HIS car cranked it up and said my car, my rules. .

    Hahaha... it was too funny.

    What all these censorship rules do is get the kiddos solid incentive to work hard and get on their feet so they can be independent and responsible adults while at the same time preserving the sanctity of our eardrums.

    :D

    IDK, I see your point, but music is supposed to be fun and I am very anti-censorship, honestly so I didn't really mind much (the fact that rap doesn't bother me helped) and I had plenty of bigger battles to fight. The kiddo is living out on his own at 20 and working and attending college part time, so I think things didn't go too badly.

    There are times (like rush hour) where I require silence in my car, but I never minded hearing the latest and greatest ode to sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll in my vehicle, so that helped. It just wasn't my fight, and I have to admit, in some ways I find rap the most innovative genre these days. Classical music is essentially dead (I've listened to a lot of it and almost went to Julliard for the violin back in the day, I'm so glad I DIDN'T but I've heard and played enough classical to last me pretty much forever....) pop is.... a revolting trainwreck that is essentially stealing from other genres and old songs (I heard an OLD Madonna song remixed the other day, LOL, so sad, though there are a few decent bands still), I can listen to my old favorites whenever I want. Country is pretty much the same, some of those older legacy bands where they replace the musicians as they die off can be interesting.... Hip hop is really a subset of rap, honestly, and it's not a terrible blend.

    Mainly, I freaking blame rap for the invention of Auto Tune, I was listening to some Dolly Parton the other day, and people used to really be able to sing. Not so much these days, unfortunately.... And everything's sped up to sound "more whatever" so you can't even listen to it if you have perfect pitch. I will at least credit rap with using Auto Tune properly, which is for EFFECT, not the ability to shove some chick with daddy issues and a lot of plastic surgery in front of a microphone. But, for example, when I heard Coldplay live at the super bowl that year... well, respect Coldplay, for NOT using live autotune, but Chris can NOT sing in tune, it's sad.

    Oh, no one mentioned STING!!! Musical genius as well, and I got to see him live during his Soul Cages phase.... The best, except for the screaming teenagers who had to jump up and down the entire time LOL.

    Tory Amos could sing, too, and she wrote her own stuff.... Susanne Vega? Alanis Morisette? So many more, my husband has a mix with them titled, "Chicks with issues". And let us not forget Florence Against the Machine, that woman has PIPES.

    Kiddo doesn't have a car these days, so if he wants to enjoy his music in my vehicle when we go places, I have no issues with it and do I want to listen to Carrie Underwood smash up some dude's car for the eleventy-jillionth time? I don't, not that she's a terrible singer, but meh :)

    That permission to derail the thread, so glad it was invoked, LOL.

    ROXANNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lol::lol::lol:

    Who doesn't??? I really don't want to listen to Christian rock bands converting their lyrics to the glory of God (I'm sorry, nothing beats a black church choir for that) and well, whatever. If I need to be inspired and whatnot, I will be inspired.... Though I will admit, one of my fave bands of all time (I know, I know, but that was my 14 year old self speaking, you know, the band you fall in love with, U2) actually started out Christian I think, and all those love songs were just the producers (Brian Eno, specifically, and he was the real powerhouse behind that band) were like, Bono, sorry, no one wants to hear you emote about God filling you and etc. and I will help you with Joshua Tree sure, but you are going to have to take singing lessons.

    Bono was also meant to be lead guitarist, but he couldn't learn the guitar, the Edge was gonna sing (and can he, it would have been an interesting and totally different band. But just watch Bono "playing" on stage.... Just sayin'.

    I got to see them in concert when I was 7 months pregnant and the music was so loud I feared for my son's future and actually wound up BEHIND the stadium, with a lot of blankets and coats piled up on my lap.... He was VIBRATING. Maybe that's why he likes rap, LOL.

    My favorite thing was when Sting put about that he was some type of tantric spiritual guru and could "have sex" for hours.... Many years later when queried about the matter, he kind of laughed embarrassedly and said that he "Might have been exaggerating," and that, "Mostly, it was me begging my wife for hours ahead of time, not the actual sex part," more or less.

    :lol::lol::lol::lol:.
