Does anyone remember Tenacious D? I will admit I adore Jack Black, but that was one of my favorite "Bands" of all time. They put out a 2 DVD disk set that included the D in concert, and those guys were FANTASTIC, honestly!!! And so funny.... I used to put them on when I was cleaning out my refrigerator.... Which needs to be done, I should try to locate it (not that I'm certain we have a DVD player anymore....) I'd have to find it online or something.

And, OMG, the TV show.... Me and my kid would watch it and my mom came over and was SOOOO disapproving, LOL, definitely not humor for her era I don't think.:lol::lol:

Tenacious D! I have not thought of them in ages.... Such a win, though. I think the TV show had like, 8 episodes, but I could watch them ALL over again. Hmm... will have to check Netfix that seems like something they might carry.....

I'd start playing with buttons, but my understanding for TC is that you may want to program it? I haven't programmed mine yet, but I mainly got it for that purpose (I have preordered a rainbow Vandy vape Berserker, I almost got gold but when I saw they had rainbow, I decided on that...) so it hasn't been vaped at all in TC mode. I will get around to it but I have time, it's a FT preorder so it might not get here until January....

Just to get back on topic (briefly)...

When I get my Pico, should I hook it up to my laptop to program it, or just play with the buttons until I get it the way I want it ?

The Pico doesn't use computer set up unless you go with the 3rd party arctic fox hardware. The USB connection is just for firmware update or charging in mod.

So use the buttons

Some people really like arctic fox, though? I don't have any experience with it, but I think some folks were saying it improved their TC experience.... Just a thought. But, I always start out with the buttons (and a demo/review) with any new mod, user manuals, well yes, I read them, but there's nothing like someone SHOWING me what to do. Usually 3 times at the least, until I master and retain it.

But, I'm goofy that way.... :)

Stick with the buttons. Maybe down the road you'll want t play around with a third party open source firmware, but I wouldn't tackle it out the gate. Besides, it's better to use t in TC mode for a while to get used to it, so if you do ever go with a different firmware you'll recognize the difference.

While we are at this, what makes for a good MTL tank for TC ?
I have a KFL V2+ to start off with, but I am sure there are others out there.

If you like Kay Lite, try this one:

$14.00 SXK Doggy Styled RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 3.5ml / stainless steel + PC / 22mm dia. at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Check your TC settings; if you have ss 316 setting under your TC, you're good. :)

To be honest due to a lack of many MTL RTA's out there I have learned to build and adjust sub ohm tanks to my lose MTL liking. Right now I am rocking a Serpent SMM with airflow mostly closed and a tighter drip tip. Using 26ga SS316L 4mm diam coil @0.58 ohms 25W / 425F and it is doing me right. I have also used SMOK TFV4 and the SMOK TF-RTA (with optional G1 single coil deck) in much the same way.

I think your KFL should be good though, although I have never owned a KF anything. Too expensive for a tank for me.

OH and if you can wait until Black Friday there will be a new MTL tank on the market at a reasonable price. Since it hasn't been released yet we cannot say for sure how it will perform but it looks promising.
Coming soon: New MTL tanks

Fasttech has a couple of KF mini v3 clones for around $10. I have one of those and it works just fine for me (and I'm strictly MTL). You can use pretty much the same builds as on the KFL+ v2. The deck is about the same size.

If you want more than 2ml capacity they even offer a KF mini v3 Plus. That one's not exactly a clone though. AFAIK SvoeMesto doesn't make a "plus" version. I have both sizes but the plus version I got was badly fitted and leaked when refilling. I ordered some spare parts from FT and got it working though. The v3 mini Plus has the same deck as the v3 mini, just a wider base and tank.

The problem I have with building sub ohm tanks for MTL is that the airflow directly onto the coil is too large. I can crank down the external air and use a restricted drip tip but if the air hole under (or beside) the coil is too big you just don't get good airflow across the coil. At best I get a mediocre vape from them.

I did read someone's description of modifying a Kanger STM and it works! If you take the silicone insulator from an old protank atomizer and cut the large end off, it fits perfectly in the air hole below the coil and reduces it to less than half the size. The STM is the only sub ohm tank (so far) that I have been able to mod to give a GOOD MTL vape.

That works fine - no sense changing up as that fits your style of vaping just fine.

You don't need to change up your normal builds, your just using different wire.

Right. I like 2.2-2.5 mm diameter airflow opening under the coil myself (Kayfun 4, SJML Doggy). Kay Lite is too tight for me already. My vaping preferences are changing, I have to admit. If I had to choose between KayLite and Kay5, I'd choose Kay 5. I like more air nowadays than I used to. STM is pretty much perfect for me; I use it with Aspire BVC (non-Nautilus) coils for a strict MTL vape, with SSOOC (316L) coils, and with RBA--I don't mod it all. Very versatile tank.

I tried to love mine, but that deck is a PITA... So small and fiddly... Gave up on my KF3. There are so many easy, roomy decks to build on. YMMV, as always. ;)

To be fair, there are quite a few true mtl tanks out there, what is lacking, or fewer of, imho, is a restricted lung tank... that tank that is neither mtl nor dl, but rather, the best of both worlds.

I found when closing down the outer airflow adjustments, that dl tanks get too hot (the metal on the tank itself)

Here is a new (or perhaps not new but one i hadn't heard of) mtl tank though. .

FastTech Hastur MTL RTA GIVEAWAY

They are giving two away, and no one is joining in the thread hardly to win one.

As for why there aren't more mtl tanks out there, well the above is proof - they can't hardly give them away.

I haven't had that issue with SMM probably because the air holes are oblong and on either side of the coil instead of underneath. Also the SMOK TFV4 has an insert that serves the same function as what you did with the insulator.
