I do seem to recall posts from the early days of TC, from low-power vapers, attesting to this. There's a leap of faith, I guess, for folks who never dipped into sub-ohm builds, and I get that. Especially for mech users, for whom coil resistance is everything. But it's true, you can basically build for your atty and then let the chip do its work. Basically...

So I could take 30ga SS, and do my same 5/6 wrap coil, not even caring what the resistance is, and the chip set would let me get the same vape I've always had??? What about air flow??

    add:
I do understand that a batteries only job is to heat a coil to a desired temperature, regardless of what kind of mod the battery is in.

    Just as a trial mod....
Has anyone tried this eleafworld Pico Temp Control Mod ? For $35 it would be a cheap trial, unless of course the chip is trash to begin with....

I love the mod, Papaw. Couldn't tell you a skip about the TC, but the power mode is very good. It's my "cigalike" (for when times call for such...).

6oz, fully loaded with a Doggystyle atty. As small and light as I ever need. This, of course, is just one more personal aspect of vaping. Others may find that to be an unwieldy anvil.

I would HIGHLY suggest watching this review of it (I think this is what you are talking about) before purchasing:

Also this is a good overview of TC in general and how it works:

Pico's are extremely popular with tc and power mode vapers. The only reason I don't have a few is the up/down buttons are on the bottom of mod.

    Yeah - I like that. :)

ClumsyMe doesn't even have to lock the wattage. It's the only mod (other than Billet Box) that I don't have to do that, because I WILL change them by accident if they're "in reach".:facepalm:

I chain vape quite a bit, so always adjusting watts to accommodate. Would drive me batty. lol

I think the Pico offers some of the best price/performance on the market AND have a rep for reliability. Are they going to do TC as well as a higher end board from YiHi or DNA? No. But it will be A LOT better than say something from Smok (sorry Smok, but facts are facts).

I don't have a Pico 25, and don't really need one right now, but I would give it a shot. It might not have the long market exposure to know reliability, but if it's anything like its predecessors it should hold up quite well.

I'm using my Picos in TC and the device does TC very well. Like @Beamslider mentioned, it's also compatible with Arctic Fox and the NFE Tools software. I find that package to be a first class PITA to get working right, but once you track down its quirks it does let you customize the device a great deal.

    Eleaf makes very reliable products.

I have one and I really like mine. Eleaf does make reliable products that hold up well at a decent price point. I am particularly fond of the Pico 25 due to its small form factor, and they offer such great colors! :) With that said, the more I think about it, me and a DNA mod might not do so well, not unless it had a very resistant screen that was small, which I imagine rules out many DNA mods. Reliability and the ability to function when bumped/dropped etc., are really my number one choices in a mod....

I'm not the best guy to get into specifics with on this topic, but essentially, yes. You still need to build to the strengths of the atty in terms of positioning and whatnot, but provided the build suits the mod's range it would "just" be a matter of dialing in your settings from there. The TC vets will fill you in on why this may or may not work though.

Best Clapton I have ever had was Slow Hands. ( Lay down, Sally, I've been trying all night long just to talk to you...)

But that was on am 8 track.
And now I hear some are going back to vinyl records....

But that would be a different topic ..

Probably a lot. I am sure it depends a lot on age and how much their parent may have exposed them to "classic rock". He had so many hits though it's hard to pick a fav, but mine would probably be the song with the title that refers to an illegal substance I can't mention here. Wonderful Tonight, Layla, Tears in Heaven, Lay down Sally, and so many more contenders for fav.

Sorry this is off topic but you guys got me thinking of all my favorite classic bands. While I always enjoyed Clapton's music even back in the days of The Yardbirds and Creme, he was never at the top of my list. Bands like Zepplin, The Eagles, Foreigner, were always higher on that list, but I think Fleetwood Mac is probably my all time fav classic rock band (During the time Stevie Nicks was in the band). Something about her voice is just haunting. The funny thing about Fleetwood Mac though is I know so many people that don't know who they are but as soon as I start playing their music they seem to know all the songs.

The Goblin used to be a conundrum for me. I could never get the wicking right. With the Pico putting temp control in my hand at under $30, I can be generous enough with the wicking to avoid spitting/gurgling and let TC keep the scorched cotton away.

This is a dual coil, 28 ga SS316L 5/32" diameter at 10 wraps for a build resistance of ~0.40 Ohms.

Stevie's place in my heart is secure, but not far from her are the sounds the sprang off the guitars of Mr. Clapton, and Mark Knopfler. I don't know why but I can always hear the souls inside of their notes & chords.

Kinda like vaping, now that I think about (VERY personal).

    No Dilemma here, just curious...
So, with a TC Mod, I could set up 1.4 ohms for 11 Watts, and keep the actual coil temperature below 400*F. Does that sound about right ?

Papaw, I'm probably the last person to give advice on TC vaping, but, actually, maybe I'm the best qualified because I was in the same boat just a while ago--I had no clue, wanted to try TC, and vaped just like you do: 2.5 ID Kanthal coil, ~1.2Ω, 11-12 watts... :)

So here's what I did--after being coached by @pufZeppelin and other experts in CLR thread.

I got a small spool of 28 g 316L ss wire (got mine from Temco, but they are out of stock now--you can get a nice quality UD 316L ss wire from FT). Cleaned the wire, built my first ss316L coil 3mm ID, 28AWG, 7 wraps (I think, because I always over wrap and then unwrap the ends), slightly spaced, 0.8Ω, 184 heat flux (very green and safe). Wicked with KGD and put it in on my Presa 75 in TC mode (ss setting) at 360F and 20W. Then played with the temp and watts a bit just for fun, but it was a nice vape.

My second coil was 2.5 mm ID, 28 g ss, 8/9 wraps, ~.89Ω. Very nice too. I think I prefer 2.5 mm ID. If you want to go to 30 g, you can do that easily, you'll just have to make fewer wraps. The main idea is to stay as close to 1Ω (or slightly below) as possible. This way you can use your coil both in TC and in power mode.

I use my Wismec Presa 75 in TC (SS 316 setting). Works great. I haven't used my Pico in TC yet, but it's my understanding that Wismec/Joyetch/Eleaf use the same or similar chip. If yours doesn't have a ss setting, try to upgrade.

Forget the Arctic Fox and such for now--just find your ss 316 setting and vape!

    Good luck!
