I'm pretty new to the whole e-cig area and especially cartomizers (not too much anymore).. but, the reason why I ask is that when I first put my cartomizer in, I think i probably put around 9 or 10 drops in and then maybe one or two every so often thinking that the burnt'ish taste was normal for the low velocity boge cartomizers....umm, so it's been a week or two doing this before I really started questiong it (because I was getting smoke I didn't think anything of it). Was the smoke I was getting from the fibers? :\ :vapor:

I am now using the condom method -threw out the other cartomizer...filled the new one with about 20 or so drops and was almost floored when it all hit my system.. so, now I know, keep them nice and wet...please tell me I didn't mess myself up:glare:, hah... one more thing....should I be hearing a slight crackling sound when taking a puff, or does that mean, it's still not wet enough? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Wow, I bet the fully filled ones blew you away!

I have no idea whether what you were doing before was harmful (although I'd guess it's not great stuff to be inhaling), but I know burnt cartomizer tastes like ..., so I'm very glad you figure out what you were doing wrong and fixed it. Crackling and popping is a good sound. Gurgling means it's too full. If you get gurgling, blow out the cartomizer onto a paper towel or tissue and wipe the battery end of the cartomizer and the contacts on the battery, then try again.

I do not recommend inhaling burning filler fumes.

What kind of cartomizers are you using? They come in different sizes and thus reqire different amounts of ejuice. But you're correct, cartomizers need to be properly saturated in order to avoid burning.

Top off early and top off often. Good luck!

Also, most cartos contain two layers of filler; a thin cotton wrap around the coil and a thick polyfill layer that wraps around it. The cotton layer begins to burn when the carto is dry or underfilled, period.

If the carto is properly saturated with ejuice, the risk of burning is very low, albeit not non-existent. Generally, in my experience, a good cartomizer is safe to use at up to 7.5-8 Watts, or so. YMMV. It depends on the quality of the carto and your vaping style. If you don't chainvape and let your carto rest between puffs, and keep it wet at all times, you should be safe.

Wattage is easy to calculate: Wattage = Voltage (of your battery) squared divided by Resistance (of your atomizer).

Here's a little handy calculator:

Good luck!

The crackling you hear is the sound of liquid sizzling and boiling in a small area. The tube kind of enhances and directs that noise. It's a good sign that means you are in the sweet spot for creating vapor. If it dies out, then your atty is getting dry.

If you get gurgling noise when you draw, it's flooded. Blow it out into a napkin and wipe the juice out of the battery contacts, then vape again and the gurgling will go away.
