5 year old domestic short hair male cat. I bought a new home and he suddenly decided to rub his paws in the tub(liked the noise lol). Within a week he was POOPING IN MY SHOWER. I took him to the vet and every time the door was left open he found out and "dropped a deuce"
So i applied the logic of denying his roaming for longer lengths of time after each incident. First i moved the poop from the tub to the litterbox and showed him. I then crated him for that day(allowing 2 1hour periods of access to food ,water and litter). After the 5th time, he spent 5 full days in a crate with 2 (1hour) food, water litter breaks...the behavior stopped.
Now, i hate crating my 2 puppies...i did not get them to KEEP THEM CAPTIVE. Yet my new home has a 30x15 covered and screened porch with ceiling fans ,carpet and tons of toys and they go nuts when left for more than an hour. They both have passed their training classes and obey commands perfectly, yet they LOVE THEIR CRATES. I fought with my GF about the crate idea, yet she showed me 20 articles from animal behavior specialists. All the articles have more or less said"Dogs get scared in big areas and get nervous and destructive when left alone". Well while i wish they loved to run in the backyard and not bark all day or not bark all day on the huge porch i envisioned as a "Puppy playground". Yet they love the crates and who am i to argue with animal behavior specialists
