Thanks Tom! Got the hellboys and bambinos today! My co-worker was thrilled when I handed him one of each and said these are yours. He was like a kid at x-mas, said I made his weekend. And his wife can't hassle him for spending money since they were a gift. I plan on using mine for juice tasters. Glad I could help remove old unworked stock from your shelves :)

This is how I set up my mantas. I make 2 bends in each leg, so that they are the same width as the posts. This way, the coils won't distort when mounting them.
You beat me to it Rule!
I built my Manta coils the same way when I had one.

Next time it's convenient would you mind snapping a pic of your coils from the front so I can see your height? I think I've got mine good but you sound like you've got it nailed to a T so I'd like to see how close I am

I just finished setting up the other one I got today. Here's a side view, so you can get an idea of the height.

Thank you man you're awesome :)looks like my coils are about an mm or 2 too high...I will lower them when I rewick. If it gets even better than this I will be in total heaven. I think I am already. I do need to get some new driptips though :)

CAM Manta V2.2 first impressions:

Dual 26 gauge Kanthal 8 1/2 wraps on 2.5 mm. 0.5 ohm wide open with Vapers Choice cotton (more on this later). Pretty decent. Had to switch to a Delrin drip tip to temper the lip heat. Put the AFC pieces back on so I can push a primer huff through it without burning my lips (this sucker WILL burn you, unlike the Vector). Not much change in draw, vapor or taste. Sleeve can be a little finicky to install - I would hate this thing in dripper mode. Gonna set it aside until later this evening when my vaping style is more subdued. Probably try higher ohm coils tomorrow, although I really dislike working with skinny wire unless its twisted.

Hopefully, the Manta is like that really good friend that you didn't hit it off with the first time you met.

I really only have a couple issues (I can always find something to gripe about) with the Manta. Otherwise, it would be the perfect atty, for me.
1. The top cap is a bit tight. It could have been made a little easier to take the top cap off.
2. I don't understand why JD would include a copper AFC ring, instead of brass.
3. I'd rather have seen the o rings on the base, instead of inside the top cap.
But, for a flavor chaser like myself, the Manta is a Nuppin killer.

Very slightly off-topic:

Vapers Choice Cotton:

I'm no cotton aficionado (yet), but this is some awesome long-staple cotton. Wicks like a beast. And just because it's so badass, I think I'm gonna spend my weekend vape-bucks buying some Cotton Bacon and any other "magic" cotton I can find. And I'm gonna try combing my Egyptian cotton just to see what its performance limits are.

After all, the coil & wick are where the rubber meets the road.

Still too early to revisit my Manta.

Tom - I'm No 29 on the Nectar Micro list. I'd also like a Stumpy shipped at the same time (to save on postage to Australia). Should I email you and pay for the Stumpy now, or do you have enough Stumpies that I can hold off and pay for it all in one hit when the second lot of Micros are shipped?

I thought one payment at shipping time might be easier, but I'm happy either way.

Appreciate the generous offer rudedog, but as you said: "can never have too much cotton...can ya". Think I'm gonna go on a Google frenzy and buy a little of everything. Cheaper than buying pricey, sexy BF mods that never seem to ship (NOT directed at you, CF).

And I'm thinking about doing some mix & match - is there anything to be gained from combining long + short staple cotton? Best of both worlds: wicking + juice retention. This is a subject near and dear to my heart, for reasons I can't explain here.

Most likely, a whole bunch of yummy, soggy cotton is going to end up in my trashcan. But who knows?

Not sure it will help with what you're experiencing or not...happens to me too a bit. As we push our coil towards the posts the ends separate out a bit. May just be a pincher of an atty unless we do really long coils.

I'm actually fairly confident this is skyrocketing to my number one atty spot but I all too often jump to conclusions too fast on attys. But man I love it. I want to tinker with builds to see if I've got it built well but it tastes too good to tinker. I set my coils height wise to about 3/8 inch from where the top cap meets the base of the atty. The flavor is just blowing my mind.
Sorry Sloth but I lost track of attys:lol: Of which atty do you speak? ;)

I agree about #3 that's what killed the quasar for me as well.
The copper ring? Meh.... I wish the atty was bead blasted or brushed, just not a big fan of polished stainless.

I got vapemail today. Thanks Tom, I didn't expect the 2 black ones. The O-rings are not easy to replace but that's all it took to tighten it up. If you buy any juice from MyVapeJuice.com beware that the tips pop out if you squeeze the bottle passed gentle. I still smell like watermelon fruit punch..... About 25 mils worth. The crap splattered all over my clothes, keyboard, screen, floor, even the wall. My wife came in from another room and asked me to quit vapin it cause it was smellin the house up before I even tanked up...But I'm happy to get my Hellboy goin, Thanks again. :)

You can hold off. I don't see me selling 35 Stumpys that fast.
