I just ordered the blocks of these to make white wicks. Need to make a bunch of back-ups. Nothing better!
oops ... yeah; i was wrong from the start. its fc2000.
so i went back to first post and see that the skinnier wicks don't wick well and thick wire is not optimal....
but hot wrap was supposed to fix that....? i am done with this puppy ... for now; until i get a new game plan (like ss mesh).
i have a feelin the grooves are messing me upBefore you give up on it - try the Petar-K/drillbit method with your ceramic. I use a 7/64 steel dowel for a 1/8 in wick- wrap it tight as you can around that - set it in the Genny & hook up the negative & positive posts so the wire is snug - "unscrew" the metal dowel & then just replace it with the ceramic wick (twist it slowly in both directions so you don't distort the coil as you are putting it in). Gives you a nice tight coil every time...it will grip the ceramic almost as tightly as a hot wrap if you do it right....less chance of breaking the wick, and no burned fingers!
Give it a try - it might work for you...I haven't done a hot wrap since I played with this technique, and the results have been outstanding.
Good luck
thanks... do you know if the DID standard is a 1/8" ? and does it matter if its the grooved fc2k?

I have 3 ceramics broken... anyone attempt to repair them? Maybe wrap ss mesh around the broken area?

Thinking of trying ceramic. What type and size would I want for RSST?
If you leave the bushing around the wick hole - 1/8 inch wick is perfect (about 3.2mm). If you knock the bushing out - you can easily go up to a 4mm wick, but from my experience, that's probably too big. The ceramics have a bigger "Heat Sink" effect than other wick materiel, so if you go too large, you get a lot of vape-lag (push the button and wait for a few seconds before you get decent vapor).
I've found that the 1/8 inch wicks are perfect in the RSST.... especially the White wicks. I have three RSSTs & have run side-by-side tests with the same juice using different materials for wicking (stainless steel, various ceramics & Nickel Foam) and the 1/8 white wick always came out on top, followed closely by the FC2000 wicks - best flavor, vapor & wicking....at least for me.
JMHO
Thanks namvet! 1/8 white. I'll look around but if somebody has best places to buy, please post links. Got some videos to watch and a lot of reading while I wait.
I'll find out while I read but does ceramic last a while? As long as SS? And you can dry burn. Right?

Wasn't there a German company that makes white wicks? They aren't like Boden's material. I thought the name was something like Rausch.... or something like that.

will do... a few days have passed, and i'm game for another go with my DID.hey buddy, bummer that your having issues with the slotted fc's. it seems like the rounds worked pretty good for you but not the slotted's. although i had occasional issues for the most part the slotted worked out pretty good. it seems like you are doing everything correctly but just not having the results. you say you are using nichrome? have you tried doing the same with kanthal? it may possibly have nothing to do with it but i have seen some issues with nichrome before. i know it worked with the round wicks so it would seem like it should work with the slotted's but maybe there is more to it. if you ever wanted to give it another go, maybe try the kanthal wire.
^ What Mr Lhartman said. I have ceramic wicks running now for well over four months that I use daily...just a quick rinse with distilled water & dry-burn the wick/coil about every third tankful, and they are as good as (or even better) than new. A new wick usually takes a tankful or so to break in, and after that, if you don't break them, they just seem to get better, and with proper care, should literally last for years.
BTW - While the consensus right now is that the White Wicks are the best, they are strictly a DIY proposition at this time. Skim through this thread & there are some great videos on how to make them:

The easiest source for the white wick materiel is a seller on eBay:

Have fun
I don't know about DIY. What do you need a gringer or something? (I've still got a LOT of reading to do in these threads.)
Are these not as good as the white ones?

Funny thing, I am running the 7/64" wick in my iHybrid Pure and it isn't working for crap. 1.1 ohm coil hot wrapped and the whole coil is heating up like the wick can't keep up. I really hate the round wicks...... The 1/8" slotted work great in my RSST's. I think it might also be due to the wick hole not being much bigger than the wick so juice can't flow around the wick.
