Update, bank cancelled hubby's card, must have caught that it was compromised without any charges going through. Still no $9.84 pings for us though, so looks like we're good to go.

It has nothing to do with "vaping" purchases.

Same payment processor may be utilized by a vaping site or a hand-knit tea cozy site. I'm not saying it's strictly vaping related, newfriend, but it may be that that some vaping sites who use a specific processor may have been part of what appears to be a massive datamining operation. In any case the vaping market seems to be hit much more frequently than most other niche markets, or at least it appears that way from what I've seen since joining ECF.

I ain't even got $9.84 in my account anyways. Went broke buying vape gear. But I'm wondering of this is somehow tied into the Target scandal.

Share the cloud!!
I was wondering that as well - I mean seriously....40 million cards before they figured out what was going on?
That leaves a lot of room for a lot of different folks from a lot of different places hatching a lot of different scams.
Does anyone know when the 9.84 scam started popping up on people's cards?

So far so good on my end too...I don't have any money left on my prepaids, though, lol
From what I gather from the Target deal, the breach started on Black Friday but who knows...that is only as far back as they are 'fessing up to.

We also do not know if the target breach has anything to do with these $9.84 charges that are showing.

If I can ask again, where are you all checking and seeing these charges?
On your Amazon cards?
Thanks!

Mine was my Bank of America Visa card. Check your bank account and any credit card transactions for all cards you own. My CC was charged $9.84 twice. Both domains leading back to the same place. Every bank and CC company has online account services that allow you to monitor your transactions. They also let you set notification alerts for transactions. That's how I found about my charges. I received an email saying I had charges made in Malta!

I never used my Card in Target. I haven't shopped there. The earliest I've found is December 4.

It looks like you're seeing a lot of vapers being hit because this is a vaping forum. It could be a combo of Target and a Visa processing server being hacked. Businesses have no control over what server Visa uses to process their transactions. It would all depend on server load when a particular transaction goes through. There are lots of people saying it has to be Amazon on the Amazon thread. But if that was the case then it would be every Amazon shopper and it's not. It could be one processing server that processed some of Amazon's charges along with some from every other business.

I think they are too busy telling themselves that it is all from Target to find out what else has been hit.

Yes, it seems as though it may be a major hack of a CC Processor service

I think it's a major breach in the processors of multilple credit cards. It's not just vaping related, it's not just Target or Amazon related. If you search it on Google (or whatever search engine you prefer), you will find multiple references to this. If you find a charge on your credit or debit card for the following sites, it's related:

cewcs.com
cwebcs.com
eetsac.com
etosac.com
feosac.com
focolu.com
iawcs.com
iewcs.com
lucroscs.com

The charge will be $9.84, and following the website will send you to the same splash page for a bogus website. If you call the number (which my bank recommended I do, before they were willing to do anything!, they want your phone number and full name. Do not give it to them! Do not bother to call. Have your bank cancel your card immediately.

does this mean i need a new debit card? I just contacted my bank on their website contesting the charge.

Yes, it would probably be safer to cancel that card and get a new one..I wonder what exactly it is going to take for responsible parties to upgrade the infrastructure so we have less of this type of thing.

Thank you for this thread! I did so much holiday shopping i missed the little 9.84 debited out of my account on xmas eve!

From tdwcs.com.........does this mean i need a new debit card? I just contacted my bank on their website contesting the charge.

Absolutely! Once they process a charge they will then sell your card number to someone else.
