I'm thrilled you are making progress, Terry.

It may be a pain in the .... but a Federal Housing Program helped us get our first house with no down payment, an okay loan rate, and no mortgage insurance which would have been an additional $80 per month for years.

I took some fall photos and will try to put them up later.

I said I had the urge to do nothing but reality sank in when I saw that I hadn't done dishes last night [shame on me:)]

Then I went outside I dug up about a third of the taters, pulled tumbleweeds [I don't have many left but I would like to get those out of the yard before they go to seed] and pulled some more irrigation lines from the veggie garden. I chopped up some of the squash vines with the gas powered hedge trimmer. Then, I raked them into piles. I'm going to let Hubby deal with it from there.

Wiseguy has been a little loose in the poop so I cleaned the water trough hoping that might help. It was building up a pretty good amount of sticky algae on the bottom and sides. Yuck! I also raked the pen out to clean up the poopy poop so I can tell if he is improving. We need to worm so I told Hubby we must worm all the critters this weekend! Wiseguy seems to be eating okay so...I guess I'll keep an eye on him.

It's lunch time and there is a book that I want to finish reading today. So, I'm off to relax until I have to organize for dinner.

Thanks. I wasn't so lucky with the mortgage ins. :(

I thought you were going to take it easy this week.

Your nearest hydrogen bomb.
Terry, as my great Aunt used to say "all good things come to those who wait." I just wish you didn't have the frustration on top of the waiting.

Tritium, is that you lurking near the ladder on the "third floor" of that "mod" photo?
Terry, what he said :)

No Roland i was on a break and wasn't working on this, it's a steam (VAPE?) generator, probably General Electric with siemens and ABB stuff. They burn hydrogen to create steam and turn a big generator. They can burn natural gas and oil if needed as a backup. Total power generated around 390MW

The waiting wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for all the screw ups and inspections (2 home inspections, engineering inspection, 2 appraisals, septic inspection, not excepting cash or personal checks, scrutinizing money paper trails to name a few). With all these inspections, I'm confident there are no skeletons to be found later. We are going on almost 3 months now.

Sitting down, facing forward.
The company I used to work for built those power plants, or ones like them. We were the first company, at the time called Ebasco, to build a 1000MW co-gen plant. It used waste heat from a refinery to preheat the water, then used natural gas to turn the water to steam for the generator. It was a big deal at the time, back in the early 90's, and that plant is still running. Really impressive to see up close and personal. The turbines were immense!

Did anyone catch the blood moon? It's a total eclipse of the moon. See October 2014 Blood Moon: Total Lunar Eclipse Coverage A friend in San Francisco just sent me a photo he took. I hadn't even known it was going to happen, but we had rain last night, so I bet the view from here would have been obscured by clouds. That's what I get for living in such a cloudy place. I miss a lot of the interesting stuff happening in the night sky.

Good morning Voltpeeps,

I saw the lunar eclipse at 4:30am. It was neat. Then I slept until almost 7am so I guess I missed the blood moon part. Our moon was just kind of grey and shadowy with a sliver of white on the right side.

Looks like the overnight lows are going to stay above freezing for at least another week so I think I will skip digging up more taters. I should probably cut the tops off the onions so they will dry faster.

I have to go to the bank and then the dentist in Fernley. I finally agreed to the deep cleaning of several of my teeth. I hope this goes smoothly and it isn't too horrible. They said I was having bone loss under one of my teeth. The one with the new crown. So, I finally said yes to the deep cleaning.

Corky looks like a character.

Ripping up floors. I wish I was there. That does sound like fun, Raven. As for the cats, aaargh, I'd be in tears. I am so allergic to that particular critter!

Wellll, never did get to that floor. In fact, never even made it to BF's place. We had a family crisis here. For the time being, my daughter has found refuge here along with her dog. The cat may follow. Who knows. But, she knows that she'll always have a sanctuary here. Her husband ... not so much. :grr: So, there has been a lot of high tension and drama. I really haven't had time to be here on ECF. She needs a shoulder, and she needs it frequently. She's been here since Friday night. Unfortunately, I don't think it will be too much longer before he convinces her to come back home. At least they are both seeing a psychotherapist together for guidance. We'll see how this all plays out.

Good morning, all. Here's another video -- short, this time -- about the interrelatedness of all things in nature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysa5OBhXz-Q

That's an interesting coincidence. My daughter and I watched an hour long show on the exact same topic on BBC last night.

I was unloading a 53' freight trailer the other day and admiring the floor in it. It had scuffs, scratches, gouges and virtually no finish. It was distressed to the point I couldn't identify the species of the wood. Sure would look good in a rustic style living/family room with nothing but a little cleanup and wax or maybe just buffing. Some of the most expensive floors I've ever done were distressed and hand hewn. Old warehouse floors that have had stuff dragged across them for a century and never been finished are some of the nicest I've ever seen. Pine is soft and will get it's heritage rather quickly but it sure is beautiful. Our home is country rustic. If I were going to put in hardwood it would be #1 common full of knots, mineral and other rough characteristics. Just my personal taste. I've installed some floors that when I looked at them I wondered why they didn't just buy plastic.

Oh, I'm with you. I think that they ought to make pre-distressed flooring. Personally, I love carpet in the bedroom and the living room/dining room areas. Most of the other floors needed to be easily mopped, so I put down tile. If they had wood flooring that looked like beat up barn wood I'd be on that like a duck on a june bug. Just sayin'. I could put in pine and beat the stuffin' out of it with chains and a hammer, but it still wouldn't look the same.

Had so much fun. Never went to one of these expos before. When I walked in and saw all the fog it made me laugh out loud. How cool. Q is right, so much vape in the air the smoke alarms kept going off. That was funny. I bought a bottle of juice, a new tank, got 2 bottles of juice for free and learned a lot. One lady had one of those new isticks (I think they are called). I want one.
Glad I went. :vapor:
And it was really nice to meet you in person finally, Q. :) You are as cute as a button, too!

DW!! So good to see you! Waving%20smiley-happy059.gif And yes - trust me: you want one of those I-sticks. Or more.

I thought only us rednecks considered White Castle dinner lol. Every once in a while I just gotta have a few of those gut grenades.

We used to call them something not nearly as polite as "gut grenades". I love the derned things but there is not a local White Castle where I can get 'em. The nearest is probably closer in toward Indy.

It's one of my favorite tools. I use it for all kinds of stuff: drywall, tile, grout, cutting through caulk/adhesive/nails behind old molding, flush cuts... Ebay sells a gabillion different blades for it too. Plus I'm cheap and had a $10 off coupon when I bought it. :thumb:

I've got a similar attachment that goes on my B&D 20V drill.

BLACK+DECKER Tools | MATRIX Oscillating Tool Attachment BDCMTO

It's great for all sorts of trim work and really helpful for lifting old tile as well.

That's just ridiculous. Unfortunately, you're dealing with both the Federal and State government systems. They slow everything down to a snail's pace.

 This guy sounds like me. I have to post a link because there are a few cuss words so viewer beware. I can sure relate to this guy.

That poor guy. I feel for him, but he hasn't had it nearly as bad as you. Yet.

Good morning Volties. I'm having a terrible time. My Gummi Bear has died. My pet Unicorn ran away. Someone kidnapped my imaginary friend and now the voices in my head won't talk to me anymore. My worst nightmare is coming true. I'm going sane.

8-o OH NO! Do something crazy, quickly! Maybe the process can be nipped in the bud. Sure hope so ...

I was able to watch it happening live on NASA early this morning, and I kept peeking out the window to see how much I could see of it through the lace of the foliage. Never did get to see the whole thing at once. It was definitely red during the total eclipse. So cool!

Yesterday afternoon, we had a tornado fifteen miles southeast of here. My NOAA weather radio and telephone were giving me automated warnings and the Sheriff was calling a warning all at the same time!!

I've got a bucket full of free irises to put in today. At least, I'll attempt to get that accomplished.
