Wuzz - Are you back above spring time temps. Must have been rough for you with a cold spell of 77 degrees.

Brrrr! It was ten degrees this morning. It has now warmed up to fifteen degrees. I think my little Taffy goat looked cold. The big goat and the horses looked fine. The dogs were let into the house as soon as I got up. They looked fine. Sassy and Willie wormed their way back into the house after breakfast but Rusty wanted to stay outside!

The horses were playing and playing this morning. They were trotting around and mock attacking one another, shaking their manes and just generally being adorable.

Me, I have nothing much that has to get done today. I'm cooking a lovely New York loin roast with taters and carrots. I need to do the dishes in the sink. I'm trying to finish a book about the Scottish king Robert Bruce. That's about it.

Hi, folks. We're back home now. The weather was great driving back. We even saw some sun today! And it's unseasonably warm.

Did you miss your good-night photos? Here's one. This was taken right here in T-burg, a sunset, but Today, as we went through the Poconos (mountains) and approached Scranton, there was a bank of clouds like this that looked almost as if it was mountains in the distance. It was almost a mirage, since I thought I could see hazy patches of trees, etc. Anyway, I don't know what this type of cloud is called, but this is one of the same type. I think the one today might have been some sort of smog from it being so warm (low 50s), since there was a brownish tinge to it that could have been pollution.

My sisters visited today. We didn't take any pix for FB, but it was a nice couple of hours. They both brought me Christmas presents. One gave me one of the pendants that she had bought from my daughter. That I do need to show off on FB. We ate Chinese, and we stopped at a gift-store.

I am glad that he liked the salt and pepper shakers. They are unique, and very realistic. Some morels do have thick stems, and you definitely had to get them so that they would not fall over.

Christmas with my kids will take place today. The resident younguns will be returning from Illinois at some point. My daughter is local, and will be here earlier with her husband. Guess I should wrap gifts, huh? I'm making a ham and some of my old fashioned macaroni and cheese with Polska kielbasa slices in it. BF will be making his famous fried green beans with bacon in it. It will be a cholesterol overload day, I'm afraid, but it only happens once a year.

I think we're all here, just being kind of quiet. The salt and pepper shakers are great, Rave. I was going to suggest that next time, if there is a next time, if you want to get the bottles out you could "break them" using a heat gun and a can of liquid air, upside down, to supply extreme cold to make the glass shatter from the inside. It might work, but would be a pain, I guess.

I got an RC helicopter for Christmas, always wanted to try one out, and it's tough to fly. The counter-rotating main blades make it a little different than the "collective" on a real chopper. I have to practice with it when Bo is outside. He wants to chase it and, probably, gnaw on it if he catches it. I am getting a lot better with it and can land and take off, from the same spot, sort of, pretty easily now. Battery life isn't very long since how big can a battery be in a foot long helicopter, but I get about twenty minutes of flight time out of it.

You mean ouzo Roland? I don't drink, even on holidays it's very rare for me.
Li-ion Helicopters (even the high end RC ones) don't have much flight time, that goes for planes too. But they have a lot of power and the main rotor can chop fingers, poke eyes out and even destroy faces so be careful with it. People usually call them flying saw blades
But probably yours is safer. Cool stuff though, hope you have fun with it

I've got two electric rotary wing, not the beginner kind. I've been flying RC aircraft for over 30 years. My son decided he wanted to try rotary wing to the tune of about $500 and another $250 after the first early arrival with earth. I told him when he moved out and got a job he could try it again.

My chopper certainly isn't an "advanced" model, indoor only and it uses IR for remote control rather than RF so bright lighting is a no-no. The blades are very light weight and pivot at the axel so while they can sting a little, they're not really dangerous. Maintaining level flight is a big trick and keeping it in "trim" so it doesn't rotate is also a big trick. All it takes is practice, but it is fun and I enjoy playing with it. I just wish the house had fifteen foot ceilings, LOL.

Why can't you use it outside? Does it have something to do with the fact that the lights can't be bright?

Hey Volties. It's been awhile since I've posted much. BF has been here a week now and has been a great help and we are getting along much better now after a 2 month break.

We've been cutting down dead trees and cutting up fallen trees. Rave let us borrow her hydraulic log splitter to try out and that thing is slicker than snot. It's so effortless. BF liked it so much and knew that I needed one so he bought me one for an early birthday present. I found a 20% discount coupon online so he got a really good deal. He's going to put bigger wheels on it so I can pull it around easier. I also got a machete to cut down those pesky rose bushes that keep attacking us and tripping us up. He brought me a small gas chainsaw that he had and is not using so that will come in handy because my electric runs out of battery power in no time. We plan on cutting and splitting some more wood today and if there is time and we aren't too exhausted we want to work on leveling the back yard path and putting stones down so I don't slip in the mud anymore. That might have to wait for another day though. We are both very sore and tired. He's planning on spending another week or 2 here depending on the weather. If there is a break in the snow in the mountains he'll have to go.

I DO have fifteen foot ceilings, but the copter that I got my late husband was a cheapo. It was 2009, I think. Still - he had a lot of fun with it in the living room. We didn't dare take it outside with all of these trees. If you watch the video, watch it all the way to the end (after "Try not to kill your kids") if you want to witness the attempted murder of my son.

I'm so glad that you're having a good time, but take it easy, 'kay? Those logs aren't goin' anywhere. I've seen your woodpile. You have enough for awhile. It tickles me pink that you got the same hydraulic splitter. It's just ... too easy! Even I can do it. The best part of it, in my opinion, is that it is purely mechanical. It needs no gas or electricity.
