Wuzz, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles, and I'm sending vibes that all goes well. I, too, never know what to say. But know my thoughts are with you, wishing you and your wife the best.
As for me, not much news. I tutor this afternoon, so maybe there'll be some news later. I think my next writing assignment with all the kids will be to write a description of whatever they choose, whether it's the room they're sitting in or the view out their window, or something they remember like a waterfall they visited. But I want it to be pure description, what it looks and sounds like and feels like and tastes/smells like. I'll tell them today to start thinking of what they want to describe, and I'll actually assign the writing at Saturday's lesson. With the littlest one, I'm going to try to get him to do it verbally. He can find a toy, and I'll ask questions like, "What size is it? Is it big or small? What color is it?" etc. I'll try to get him to answer in complete sentences rather than single words.
The other day, I shopped for the original girl's Christmas gift. She wants to learn to crochet, and I put together a little kit. She said she wanted to start by making a scarf for herself, which is a very reasonable first project. I got yarn for that and threw in a skein I had here that she can use to practice on. I also got a crochet hook, small scissors, a measuring tape, and a how-to book. I can provide lessons or backup support as needed. She is very into arts and crafts.
Her older brother is going to get some Legos. He wants them with Lego people, he said.
The little one will get a car with lights and sounds. He loves vehicles!
I'm still trying to think of what to get the new girl. Probably a book she can read on her own. But which book?
