Wuzz, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles, and I'm sending vibes that all goes well. I, too, never know what to say. But know my thoughts are with you, wishing you and your wife the best.

As for me, not much news. I tutor this afternoon, so maybe there'll be some news later. I think my next writing assignment with all the kids will be to write a description of whatever they choose, whether it's the room they're sitting in or the view out their window, or something they remember like a waterfall they visited. But I want it to be pure description, what it looks and sounds like and feels like and tastes/smells like. I'll tell them today to start thinking of what they want to describe, and I'll actually assign the writing at Saturday's lesson. With the littlest one, I'm going to try to get him to do it verbally. He can find a toy, and I'll ask questions like, "What size is it? Is it big or small? What color is it?" etc. I'll try to get him to answer in complete sentences rather than single words.

The other day, I shopped for the original girl's Christmas gift. She wants to learn to crochet, and I put together a little kit. She said she wanted to start by making a scarf for herself, which is a very reasonable first project. I got yarn for that and threw in a skein I had here that she can use to practice on. I also got a crochet hook, small scissors, a measuring tape, and a how-to book. I can provide lessons or backup support as needed. She is very into arts and crafts.

Her older brother is going to get some Legos. He wants them with Lego people, he said.

The little one will get a car with lights and sounds. He loves vehicles!

I'm still trying to think of what to get the new girl. Probably a book she can read on her own. But which book?

I hope you guys have a good Friday :)

And I hope you have a good Friday, too, Duckey.

Good morning, Voltniacs.

One cup of coffee, critters fed and Hubby recovering on the couch from taking 150 pounds of meat off the mountain. Yeah, it took him several trips. His 73 year old dad carried 40 pounds for a couple of miles in rough terrain. Not bad for an older guy!!!!

I guess they had a great time on their hunting trip.

We got the meat cut and vacuum sealed except for the fore quarters. That will mostly be Chinese food or stew meat.

Just under the wire for a moanin', Voltimaniacs.

I didn't get the lights up yesterday. I spent the afternoon looking for the bad bulb/connection in three strings of them. Yeah, they're LED bulbs but the use a series string to keep from needing a power supply. PITA! Did a few things in the house this morning and will get out the ladder this afternoon and get them up.

Nice seeing you drop by Duckie! Now we need Rave and Terry to pop their heads in. Wuzz, still sending those thoughts and prayers.

Sounds like a great trip for hubby, Lizzie. I vote stew for the fore quarters, LOL. We use stew for a quick, easy, no fuss meal during the week when things get a little too busy. Grab a container out of the freezer, cook some noodles and we're set to go.

- for the update . . .

The Christmas lights are up and blazing away in all their LED glory. The house isn't visible from space, yet, but I'm working on it. Clark Griswald is safe though.

moanin', Voltaticalytes.

A little cool here this moanin', 26 when I got up and the frost was so heavy it almost looked like it snowed. It's supposed to warm up into the mid 50's though and there is no snow in the "foreseeable" future according to the weather guessers.

Yesterday, after I came in from putting up the Christmas lights, I noticed I had lost video from the security camera. Tried a reboot, more than once, and all I got was a single, purple tinted, frame then a "connection refused". I couldn't even get into it directly from its' IP address. Checked the forums on the manufacturers website and nothing helpful. It seemed to me it had a problem going into IR mode when it got dark enough. So, I powered it down for the night. I also went online and found the next version up of the camera at a really good price so I ordered one. This one has remote focus and zoom capabilities while the one that seems to have failed is fixed focus.

This morning, just for a laugh, after the sun came up I powered it up again. It came up with no problems. I'll see what happens at sundown this evening. I'll leave the order alone for the other camera though. The price is really good and I've been wanting to add another camera or two to the system anyway.

Yeah, but I got the one I have for substantially less a few years ago, prices seem to have gone up about a third. The one I just ordered was actually less than the one I already have. If it works out like I hope it does, I will order another.

I tried a less expensive one first but the picture quality, even though it was advertised as 720P, was crappy as was its dynamic light range. You get what you pay for, unfortunately.

I tried the wireless cameras, too, and had poor results. Bandwidth gets limited by poor signal quality. I did a lot of reading before I switched to the Grandstream and they seemed to offer a reasonably good quality picture and construction at a fairly reasonable price. The IR function works as advertised and faces are recognizable out to about 50 feet at night. The camera has been out there for almost three years now and this is the first "hiccup" it's had. I'm pretty sure I can get it fixed, by Grandstream, at a reasonable price as well.

It's funny how I've come to depend on that camera. It gives me a permanent "window" on part of the font yard and driveway, day and night. I just saw the person person drop off a package, the ..... doesn't even ring the bell on the gatepost he leaves the boxes leaning against, and he gets a Christmas present every year!
