I went to see Penny today. I groomed her while she grazed on the lawn, as usual. Lots of shedding hair came out, as usual. While we were on the lawn, one of the other boarders came down to the ring, which we were near, for a riding lesson. This boarder has 2 horses, and she rode one, and the instructor rode the young one after longeing her. At one point, the horse got so wild that the trainer let go of the line, and the horse ran wildly around the ring. Penny just kept munching. I was wondering how Penny would react, after that senseless spook the other day. I was glad she ignored the shenanigans. The other day was windy, and today was calm, and I think that's why she reacted so weirdly to the car coming in the other day but not to a loose horse tearing around today.

Sunny is not in Penny's pasture, and her blanket had no further rips in it. But poor Gigi whinnied for Penny for a while, even though she could see Penny. Penny ignored that as well. Eventually, Gigi calmed down, and when I turned Penny out, Gigi was in back, and Penny whinnied, "Where are you?" and Gigi answered, "Here!" and Penny headed back where Gigi was.

Good morning Voltville. Break time!

I cleaned the pens and then decided to work on the irrigation system in the back.

I am a little concerned about Nevada this morning. I think he looks a little sore in his front feet or foot or something. The farrier came Tuesday so it could be from that. Or, it could be that he and Wiseguy have been going at it for over a week now and he is simply over doing it on the exercise.

Also, Nevada fell over backwards day before yesterday when fighting with Wiseguy. I think I will lock one of them in a stall today if they start fighting some more.

Or, I could just be the type that worries about her cute little horseys.

I sure hope Nevada recovers. What symptoms does he show that makes you say he's sore? It could be from falling. I guess you don't have any spring grass, so it's probably not founder, right? You could cold-hose his front legs and see if that helps.

It's pretty subtle. I am thinking about taking him out to hard ground to see if any thing shows up. I cleaned his front feet. He doesn't seem to have any swelling on his legs. I think the two horses have been going at it pretty hard. Wiseguy had a little bit of blood on him but I can't see any actual wounds.

Wiseguy keeps poking Nevada and provoking Nevada to fight with him. Every one says to let them work it out but I am giving them a break from one another.

I can guarantee you this is the most exercise Nevada has gotten in years.

I went ahead and locked Nevada in a stall since I am leaving to pick up rocks in the desert.

The two of them were laying on the ground next to each other this morning. I am hoping they will decide to get along.

Yes, trotting him on hard ground like a paved road will show up any lameness better. Can your husband lead him at a trot while you stand back and watch for lameness?

Lying next to each other must mean they're friends. They probably like to play rough. The exercise would be good for them if they can manage to keep from hurting themselves or each other. They may slow down when the novelty wears off -- or maybe not, if they never get bored of it.

Can you fence off a larger area where they have room to run? That might help if they can run together rather than the close-contact sports they seem to be into.

I'm back from picking up rocks and hauling them in from the desert. I had to unload them right away since I need the truck to take Rusty and Penny to the vet for shots. Wow, I hate hauling rocks but that pond area is shaping up and looking good.

I have plans to fence off an area at the back of the property but the plans hinge on Hubby doing all the heavy lifting, fence post pounding and such. He also has to install a gate. I'm not holding my breath at this point. He is working a ton of overtime, as well, so we won't get any of this done this weekend.

Maybe the two horses are mellowing out a bit, finally. They got to rough housing and then Nevada said "Hey, let's eat hay." Wiseguy said, "I'd rather play but, if you insist, I will eat hay, too." At least Wiseguy backed off when it was clear Nevada wasn't into the game.
