Sitting down, facing forward.
I got this from a friend and I hope no one is offended, but it is funny and I can see it happening (to me)....

I GOT MY CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT YESTERDAY MORNING.

In the afternoon, I went over to the local Bass Pro shop to get a
small 9mm handgun for home/personal protection.

When I was ready to pay for the pistol and ammo, the cashier said,
"Strip down, facing me."

Making a mental note to complain to the NRA about the gun control
wackos running amok, I did just as she had instructed.

When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found
out she was referring to how I should place my credit card in the card
reader!!!

As an intelligent senior citizen, I do not get flustered often. But
this time, it took me a while to get my pants back on.

I've been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make
their instructions to seniors a little more clear.

I still don't think I looked that bad!

Just need to wear underwear more often.

That's just one of the great things about garlic. Fiance had a spider bite on his arm once (which was fortuitous because I had just read a home herbal remedy book) in the perfect shape of a circle. Just take a slice of garlic, place directly on the wound (will burn like heck! ) and do that 2 or 3 times a day. Fiance's bite healed up in 3 days, except for a scab, but a least it closed up. Garlic isn't know as Russian Penicillin for nothing.

There are also different health 'teas' you can make as well. I truly love natural remedies but still sometimes nothing beats a good ol' aspirin, ibuprofen, or tylenol for pain relief :pervy:
Garlic does wonders! Bring to a boil: garlic and milk, it will kill worms in humans!
Nothing beats a Tylenol and ib profin sometimes though for sure!

'afternoon, Viltizens.

I've managed to get a summer cold, somehow. Sore throat, yes I still have tonsils, and for me to feel it as a sore throat it's usually pretty severe. Listerine and ibuprophin seem to be making progress though. 've got to get the lawn mowed soon or I'll need a combine instead of a mower.

We did get some rain yesterday but all it did was add to the humidity. It was another broiling day here with "feels like" in the 115F range, way too hot!
Boil water with yellow root and take. It is awesome for a sore throat! A Cold in the summer is horrible!

Interesting! Garlic sure is a wonder!

I read somewhere long ago that to avoid swimmer's ear, you should stick some rubbing alcohol in your ears. I had a bad earache after swimming one time. I needed antibiotics to cure that, but it was so awful that I decided that, after each shower, I'd dab some alcohol in my ears. It seems to have worked. I dip a Q-Tip into the alcohol bottle and dab it in and around my ear. I know they say nothing smaller than your elbow should go in your ear, but that's ridiculous! I'm very careful to do it gently, and it has never hurt me. I've never had an ear infection since.
I clean my ears with alcohol regularly. My Mom cleaned our ears with alcohol regularly growing up. It definitely gets rid of water trapped in the ears. It evaporates it.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

Very funny story, awsum:) Hope you are feeling better today.

I think I backed the wrong team when it comes to the Well Cooperatives. Of course, I didn't know there were two well cooperatives in town at the time I joined. My team is not getting anything done and I mean nothing.

The state is having a series of water commission meetings and we just found out about it.

Their team went to Pahrump for the first meeting. That's a long drive.

Our team put out an email saying click here and show up on Friday in the Capitol. Their team put out a petition all over town and held a special "emergency" town meeting.

On Facebook several people thought that the two co-ops were lying about who they are and I tried to explain the best I could but I am just the treasurer and I can't get ahold of anybody who can answer to the issues like a couple of peeps in our group could.

Someone on Facebook said "Do we need two co-ops?" I said "We probably don't literally need two groups but the two groups seem to differ in some ways. NWC [ours] thinks it's important to have members vote on all money issues. It's all volunteers, no members or board members get paid, all members are encouraged to participate but certainly not forced to participate." because I am certainly not going to repeat some of the wild accusations made by my group about the other group. I wasn't there when they split up so I don't really know what happened.

I finally gave up on talking on Facebook since I don't really want to bash anyone! And, I don't really know what to say.

I've been trying to get a talking points brochure going for months since I hardly know what to say to people on some issues. When I brought it up at the board meeting in July, the two peeps who know the most were like "Anybody can join. This is an issue for everyone." "Even people in other states could join." So I pointed out that state water laws differ so how would that actually work in another state. Also, why would someone from another state want to join? I said it really nicely and I also said really nicely...who is our customer? Who would want to join? Can we come up with some marketing materials for that group of customers?

I've been trying for a couple of weeks to figure out if I am an administrator on our Facebook page because I was told I am but I can't seem to access that part of the page. On top of that, I have said many times we need to update our webpage, if I knew how to get on the web page to update, I would do that. I could have made a couple of entries addressing some of the talking points about the state water sub committee if I could have had access and just referred people over to the webpage over and over instead of putting out fires on Facebook Silver Springs Peeps page.

The concept of the co-op is brilliant. State law says if you are already a member of a utility like our co-op, no other utility can force you onto their water system. The execution is leaving a lot to be desired. We've been going to finish one last piece of the puzzle for months. Five people offered to help the guy who knows how to do this at the last board meeting a month ago. So far, haven't heard from the guy since. So frustrating.

Last night, I shot an email to our president of our group telling him what was going on and asking him how he is related to the other board's member with the same last name. I know it's early but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I don't think I am emotionally capable of dealing with all this. I'm frustrated and angry and I wish I wasn't in a group that is apparently incapable of getting anything accomplished.

'moanin, Voltizens.

Lizzie, you are finding out the truth of a line from Robert Heinlein..."Committee - The only known form of life with more than one mouth and no brain." If the "powers that be" have no interest in answering the questions/problems that are being presented I'd guess they are there just for the title and feeling of power. Hate to be so discouraging.

I am feeling better but still not back to what passes for normal for me. Still exploring the alternatives to traditional cable, and the bill that comes with it. I don't want to steal content, it does cost some bucks to produce, but jeesh the cable bills are getting crazy.

The people might mean well but they aren't accomplishing anything. I brought in most of the new members in the last few months. We are getting a few more members but to what end? I wish we would hold up the flag of peace and rejoin the other group.

Attention, Attention...all hands abandon ship, all hands abandon ship...glub, glub, glub.

Sorry, Lizzie, but I think the leadership just isn't leading. Whether that's a lack of interest, just not caring or incapable. I know you were hoping to accomplish something with this but given the results you've experienced so far it doesn't look promising.

On another note, I hooked up a Roku box and am trying a trial subscription to Sling. So far I'm not all that impressed with the channels, no live FNC, but the video and audio quality are excellent, full 1080P on all channels. The hardest part was getting the password in for the WiFi connection. Other than that quick and easy. We'll play around through the weekend and make a decision on whether to ditch the cable box or not. Even with the internet service and Sling it's well under what cable is costing. Plus Sling has an app for PC and tablets to be able to watch on them as well.

Lizzie, I'm sorry to hear your water coop is in such disarray. Is the other group more organized? What if you joined them, or even both?

Your alternative is to make proposals you think are helpful and meaningful and hope enough of your group goes along with them. But in that case, you probably will need to be the driving force and provide the vision. Every group needs a good leader, and you might be the one, but it'd be a lot of work.

Tutoring today gave me a pleasant surprise. The boy who I usually worry over so produced something I consider truly creative. This boy is about to enter 6th grade in Sept. -- just so you know his age, in case you didn't.

Last time's writing assignment for him was to write a friendly letter. I felt he needed to know how it was done, though I think I remember doing this a while ago. But a recent question showed that he didn't know that both a journal entry and a letter might have the date when it was written, so I felt it was time for review. (Sigh! So much of what I teach him is review that we hardly learn anything new!)

Today, I read his letter, and I was impressed at his creativity. Here it is, minus the return address and signature.

"Dear Phone,
"Hi phone sorry I killed you by playing on you for too long. I also wish you were bigger and has more Gb because I am having trouble downloading stuff on you. Can I ask you a question? If yes can you read?"

This is before corrections and suggestions I made to improve it, but I thought it was really cool that he wrote a letter to a phone. I told him he could write it to anyone real or imagined, and supposed that meant a person, never guessing at a phone!

I think the letter is very creative and funny and a good commentary on modern society, though I'm sure he didn't mean it as a satire. Still, I think this boy, in spite of (or maybe because of) his attitude problem, has a very unusual take on the world, which a creative person needs. I praised his creativity. I mentioned that I think that's also why he makes interesting poetry (free verse).

He also wrote the letter legibly, and I could see he spent some time on his homework.

Just when the clouds seem darkest, sometimes they part to let in a ray of sunlight.

I have been making proposals but we only meet once every two months. In between, we get very little done.

I really hoped that with a change in the board, we could get more done. I don't think that is going to happen. The president told me he doesn't want to put more than 3 hours a week at this. No one wants to do more meetings. No one will get back to me. Aaaaargh.

Well, sure--but if that's the only one you've read, you're missing out. A friend and I held a two-person wake (with massive amounts of alcohol), the day he died: we had already read everything he'd written.
I'd probably do the same thing when my favorite author dies, Nora Roberts/J.D Robb. She writes romance (all different kinds of romance except for the filthy stuff  ) as NR and as JD she writes a futuristic cop/detective story featuring the same main characters (about 50+ of them including novellas). She's been writing since 1981 and I have read every single one of her books. I know its about 300 or 400 of them by now. :D

Yeah, I guess you could say I'm a Heinlein fan, Catlady. I discovered him in my teens, by accident, and promptly read just about everything he wrote, multiple times. Some of it wasn't as enjoyable as the rest, but still pretty good. The Lazarus Long stuff is still my favorite series of his. He was amazingly advanced, brilliant and foresaw/predicted a lot of the technology we now take for granted. For some reason Arthur C Clark seems to get more credit in that arena, but Heinlein was, and still is, "da man" to me.

That letter the boy wrote is actually pretty neat, Sandy. To me it reflects how he's thinking and is a little window into his "world". The fact that he took pains to write legibly is another good sign, both that he had interest and wanted to "do it right".

We're back into heat and humidity, again. Sunday is supposed to be stormy as a cool front comes through then it'll get less hot and less humid. I've got the AC off at the moment and have the windows open to get some air in, but it won't be long before the AC goes back on.
