Checkout with a credit/debit card is through Paypal even if you don't have an account with Paypal. Open an eBay account and shop till you drop. I usually buy several things a week from eBay and never have a problem. During checkout there's a little box that wants to save your cc# for future purchases that's automatically filled in. I un tick it. When I buy from Amazon I delete my card # after the purchase. I have a small account with a debit card for online purchases. Doesn't cost me anything and they won't get much if they hijack it but I don't leave a lot of information laying around to get hacked
My Wife is the only reason I've got cable at all. All I need is a good antenna and a dvr to watch anything I want, which is usually the news and Jeopardy. Both are on local channels. Channel Master dvr also has a guide with no subscription like Roku. I also watch some Netflix for under $10 a month. Lot's of shows I haven't seen and I don't have to wait a week for the next episode when they end with a cliff hanger.

The Channel Master is very interesting.

Thanks for the peace of mind, Wuzz.
I haven't added to the Comcast, Century Link, etc conversation, yet. IMHO, the fact that they are all unashamed and unpunished thieves is sure proof of the decline of our country's civility, and of the nearly unlimited power we have given the "entertainment industry"--the current embodiment of "bread and circuses".
With that, I will shut up, as I have no idea how to effect any change.

Good morning, Voltmaniacs.

Pretty good discussion on the topics of Ebay and Amazon as well as satellite/cable TV.

Hubby and I are excited to try the new features that are coming along in the television viewing world. We are going to start with the freebies like the Amazon Firestick which is free because we already get Prime because we like the free shipping. I bought the Firestick on sale quite awhile ago so that is already paid for. Living in the middle of nowhere, Prime is a great option for us.

I have a better wireless router coming in the mail from Costco. The nice thing about Costco is that we can return it to the store within 90 days with no questions asked. All the wireless routers had a number of people who said it didn't work or it didn't work for long. Costco also has a free concierge service which might help with this item as all the companies who make these products had some bad reviews on customer service. I did pay an extra $10 compared to other places prices. This is what I bought TP-LINK AC1900 Touch Screen Wi-Fi Gigabit Router - Item# 1080371.

I am getting the Chromecast dongle. It is supposed to allow me to put Chrome browser pages right onto the TV screen. I've been wanting product that will let me use my computer to watch videos from my horse website or other places without being stuck sitting in the office. This is the only reasonably priced option on the market. It is $35.

Hubby was told by a friend to get the Yagi antennae so that we can get TV from the air. He loves that antennae and gets a fair number of channels. We don't have a ton of channels here but we should be able to get the major networks, no problem.

I hope we can get three items to work on our TV. If this process goes smoothly and I haven't thrown a shoe through the TV trying to get this much computer stuff going, we will cut the cable in one month.

The lure is saving money. We want to retire in five years although we might have to try to make it another 8 years. We would save a pretty good chunk of money not paying over $100 per month to have TV.

We also finally let go of our home phone. The price just keeps going up and almost no one calls us on it anyway. After all, we have had cell phones for 11 years ever since moving to the new place in the country.

'moaning, Voltatics.

I meant to say that's a great shot of your and Cash, Lizzie!

Back in "the good old days", before cable, there was a thing called subscription TV. When it became available I, of course, had to have it. The problem was I was in Lakewood and the station was in Vineland, about 60 miles as the crow flies, and a UHF station. So I called them, a guy showed up and did a site survey. The house was on the downslope of a hill with a taller hill about a half mile southwest, in the general direction of Vineland, and surrounded by trees. He got on the roof and looked for a signal using a dipole antenna. Needless to say he couldn't get one, but I was determined, and he left with no service available as a diagnosis.

I bought the highest gain UHF antenna I could find by Winegard, mounted it on a 60 foot tower with a rotator and added a 30db preamp right at the antenna. On UHF I was able to watch channels from Baltimore reliably, about 200 miles away and if the band opened just a little, Washington, DC. Needless to say Philadelphia and New York were also available as well as Hartford and, occasionally, Boston.

I called the station back again and asked for another site survey using my antenna. Two days later I watched "Galaxina" on subscription TV!

So far I'm not impressed with ComTrash being "timely" with their service. It's 10:30 and the technician was supposed to be here between 8:00 and 10:00. Incidentally, Tritium, I specified a tech that looks like "Becky" in "The Italian Job".

So share it, already! Or is she going to let us know?
Don't want to steal her thunder.
Encouraging you to fb.
Besides, your inbox is full.
Despite your struggles with Big Cable, you are limiting your communication network.

I wasn't happy with their, so called, security setting either. Their "fence" is too much like a screen door on a submarine to me. What really was bad was that they immediately accessed my Google email account for the contacts list and Google let that happen. I guess that's in the "fine print".
