Q - Are you getting over being grumpy yet????

I'm gonna pull through, I'm sure, lol. I'm a member of the "I hate winter disorder" club too. I did go out to get the mail, splashed around in the mushy snow/water/ice mix that we loosely call "the driveway", and now I'm enjoying a nice hot cocoa. vape mail, hee hee, that always gives me a little boost.

Hey lizzie. We had a windy night but no rain and the puddle my car was sitting in has drained off. Today is mostly cloudy (ugh) with a couple of quicky sun breaks. What do they call that "I hate winter" disorder? Well, I've got it! :(

I think you mean this: Seasonal affective disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think we all have it to a certain extent. February is especially bad, since we're fed up with winter and longing for spring, which we know is coming soon. Since this area is known for having less days of sunlight than other places, people speak of cabin fever a lot. It's that state when you're tired of being cooped up indoors because of winter weather.

That's it! I suffer from it every year but it's worse this year.

I guess the simplest solution is to get outside in daylight as much as possible, especially on sunny days.

If only we had sunny days. We've had 5 or 6 storms in a row. I can't remember when we had a sunny day. March is a little over a week away. The weather should improve then, at least be warmer so I don't have to dress like a skier indoors. :grr:

I hope your weather improves.

We had some sun this morning, but then it got cloudy again by noon, and sometime in the afternoon, it started raining/sleeting/hailing. The weather forecast called it "ice pellets." I think it was trying to snow, but it was too warm. I wonder if it coated all the branches with ice. I'll have to look tomorrow. It didn't last long, and it's still warm enough that it may have melted. I bet it didn't help the driveway, which is a skating rink now. Getting to my car was an adventure this morning. We've been lucky this year with driveway ice, since it has snowed enough that it didn't pack down, melt partway, and then freeze -- till now.

I know you guys are having a lot worse weather than we are. We never get much snow, just lots and lots of gray days, wind and rain. It gets really old when it's like this nearly 8 months out of the year. Our Summer typically doesn't start until Aug. This year I'm wishing we had snow rather than the rain. At least snow is beautiful. There's nothing beautiful about mud puddles.

I agree. I prefer snow. Lots of people curse it, and I certainly don't like driving in a snowstorm, but this area gets lots of snow, so they are ready for it, with lots of salt, plows waiting to go out, etc. We have it better than places like the South, which when it does snow, they're unprepared. And you're right. When the landscape is white, it relieves some of the grayness, even if it's cloudy. In fact, when it's sunny, it can be blindingly bright.

Celt - love your dark cloudy skies with trees photo in the contest!!!!!

SandySu - Nice icicles:) Tutoring seems to be going good for you.

Terry - How's the weather. We got all your wind and none of your rain from this last storm.

It is a chilly 22 degrees out but toasty warm in here with the wood stove. Hubby got it going this morning. It is supposed to get to 55 degrees today. I am hoping to get Wiseguy out on the road and Nevada out to the round pen.

Hope your trip up north is going well, Uncle.

So, how's the bird watching going, Raven?

How is the weather at your place, Awsum? Are you starting to think about spring? We got our seeds ordered and we are ready to start our seeds. Tomatoes and some of the flowers need to be started around March 15th to March 30th.

    Thank you Lizzie.

Well - I FINALLY made it up North late last night after a half hour delay in Florida because Philadelphia Airport was overloaded with traffic and then after another 1 1/2 hour delay because a Woman collasped as she was entering the plane from the gangway after being wheel down just after "Me" (turns out from from a hypoglycemic attack/eventually a stroke) . . .

LONG STORY SHORT . . . Uncle is very upset because NOT ONE CREW MEMBER knew what to do and worse the Captain and Co-Captin stayed in the cockpit and the other 2 flight attendants were in the back galley . . .While the 5'3" head flight attentant, the older man who wheeled her to the door, and her husband kept trying to pull the woman up by her arms (almost pulling them out of the sockets) - instead of getting her bent legs and feet out from under her (gave her some orange juice with sugar - and when she became more cohearant) and then lifting her by getting under her arm pits and back up to the wheel chair (which of course was not easy given her "dead" weight - matter of fact, she is much larger then I am, I would say well over 300 lbs . . . It actually took all I could muster just to finally get her to the edge of the chair with the assistance of 2 other men and her husband - who was much older & frail) . . . All this while the rest of the passengers just stood in the gangway . . . .Finally the gate crew showed up and removed the rest of the passengers back up into the airport waiting area as a Sherif officer, and EMS showed up and got her to the gangway . . . Where upon she went catatonic (?)/passed out and stopped breathing . . So they started CPR . . . BTW: While we were getting her legs out from under her - I found out from the husband the woman just got out of the hospital the previous day took her diabetic medications in the morning and hadn't eat all day (it was 3 PM) . . . The worse part about this whole situation is NOT ONE SINGLE Airport personel or any Member of the EMS team asked any questions of her "husband" or "Me" who did the inital accessment . . And - When someone from the Airport came to find out what happened - The flight crew just tried to pass it off as though all that happened was that the woman fell, that was until I spoke up . . . ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE ! ! ! !

Oh Yea - When all was done the rest of the passengers where let on to the plane and the flight crew said thanks for helping and when they came around with the refreshment cart offered "Me" an alcohol drink of course free of charge . . . Woopi !!!! ;)

Normal every day event - NOT ! ! !

Just really ...... at the flight crew - definitely contacting the airline when I get home . . . First to find out if the woman is alright (if they will let "Me" know anything) - then to let them know what really happened (Maybe even contact FAA - don't know yet ) . . . Just Sayin' . . .

Just got to figure out who to contact so that something can be done so that type of situation does not happen again . . . Without a doubt - the Captain should have step in and taken control of the situation - NOT A PASSANGER ! ! ! (Even if it was "Me") . . .

Goodness Uncle, Sorry your flight was delayed and thank goodness you were there for that poor woman.:toast: That airline should have an evaluation and drills for emergencies like that.

I was all excited yesterday. We were going to have a major snowstorm. All around us it was snowing. I looked out the window when I woke up, and the parking lot is barely covered!!! :(

Two hour late start. Must be some ice under that layer of snow.

That happened here, too, a few days ago. They predicted 3 to 5 inches -- and nothing! I think what happened was that the storm went around us and we were in a hole in the center of it.

I figure we'll have one more big snowstorm before spring. It often works that our biggest snowfall is sometime in March. Sometimes, it comes early, at the end of February.

Terry - I know how gray it can be in Washington state. Hang in there. I was born and raised in Seattle. Probably why I ended up liking this weird place called The Desert. Sunshine and wide open spaces:)

Zero - Sorry you didn't get your snow.

Glad your willing to move forwards, Grumpy, er, I mean, Q:) Maybe the grumps will fade away.

SandySu - We generally get out last snowstorm about April 15th. Nothing too exact about that but it always seems to be tax time when the snow hits. It melts right away.

24 very chilly degrees here this morning.

Rusty is limping on his other shoulder. Way too much playing for him yesterday. I made him come inside and lay down.

I finally made it outside in the afternoon. I brushed Nevada who looked pretty grumpy about the attention. Wiseguy stood by the fence like "Hey, do me...I want to be groomed." So cute.

I'm cutting back on their hay a bit since they are sort of chunky monkeys but I am upping the alfalfa pellets on Nevada since he has a big belly but his .... looks a little thin. Probably needs a little more protein.

Today should be pretty nice when it warms up. I need to get some rolls made for dinner.

I could burn a few more tumbleweeds on the far fence. One thing about five acres is there is plenty to do. I'm getting vaguely organized for seed starting season since I need to make sure I have the seed starting rack and trays and soil and...maybe I need a list.

Hmm … maybe I should get one, then. Do you have any suggestions? I have a hook on my porch where I could hang one. We have lots of squirrels here. Which design would be most squirrel-proof?

Dunno what to recommend. I have all of my feeders on the upper deck and the posts are electrified to prevent squirrels and coons and other critters from raiding them. One thing that I've heard works well is to hang the feeder from a tall shepherd's hook.

 Holy cow - what a fiasco! It sure is a good thing that you were willing and able to help out. Why am I not surprised? ;)

I guess the simplest solution is to get outside in daylight as much as possible, especially on sunny days.

I've got a bit of cabin fever syndrome myself. Normal winters, I go out frequently and walk all over the place. Normally, we have snow on the ground for only a day or so. This year, we've had almost constant snow cover which is very tricky for me navigate through/over, and the temperatures have been downright frigid. I haven't been able to get out much at all. :(

I've been inundated with more drama. I could reallllllly go for a solid week of sheer boredom!

Woke up yesterday and the water wasn't working. Luckily, we keep about 20 gallons of water stashed in the basement. It's rather tough to remember to NOT flush the toilet. I checked the circuit breaker and it was on. Dave checked the wiring in the well and it seemed to be alive and well. So, I told my BF about it when he called. He remembered that we'd tried to disconnect the garden hose this past fall, but it had a steady leak, so we hooked it back up again. Dave went out to check out the hose. The water within the hose had frozen up and popped the nozzle off of the end. Then the thaw came. The water in the hose melted, ran out and emptied the well. My BF talked Dave through a temporary fix until he can fix it permanently this weekend. Crisis averted. It could have burned up the well pump. So now I have water again, and can flush.

Had my neurologist appointment yesterday and managed to get temporarily lost in fog so thick that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I was late for my appointment. Doc tested the strength in my legs and wasn't happy. There was no response when he hit my right knee with the little rubber hammer either. He started to test my arms and then stopped as soon as he saw my smashed finger. That had happened when a big log fell down onto my hand collecting firewood. There were expletives involved.

I told Doc that my wrist has been bugging me since 2009, but is getting steadily worse. He asked me specifically where it is hurting. I showed him two spots. He pushed in hard on both of them and I gasped in pain. He said that they are tendon bunches and is referring me to a surgeon of some sort. Can't remember what type. CRS! They'll call me to set up a consult. Now my wrist is absolutely screaming and in the brace again.

Watched the flooded creek for awhile after I got home. Ice bergs were floating by. Then the wind picked up dramatically and the NOAA radio started yelling. Eventually it had us under a Tornado Warning and we all went down to my studio. While we were down there, the Sheriff called to warn about a tornado in our area. We heard the unmistakable throbbing of a tornado.

The tornados out here in the sticks are almost never confirmed because they need to be verified visually by certified spotters or law enforcement of some sort. My daughter and her hubby are both certified, but there's no seeing such a thing in the woods at night. We could see the hook echo and rotation on Doppler, but it will never be a confirmed tornado. Awhile back, we had one plow through my woodcutter's corn field and both he and his cousin and a neighbor saw it move through (heading to my place!). It was never confirmed.

Enough drama already!! I'm ready for some peace and quiet. Calgon take me away!

    Oh boy, Raven.

Yep, that is a lot of drama. Glad you got your water back. Hope BF fixes it permanently. We had the pipe that comes out of the tank in the well freeze up once. Fortunately, Hubby used a heater to thaw it out and we were back in business. I now have a couple of old sleeping bags on top of the well cover and an old tire holding them on. I keep saying I'll do a classier well cover but it hasn't happened yet Always good to be able to flush.

I keep a few gallons of water here just so I can make coffee if something happens to the well. I need my coffee:)

    sucks about your wrist.

Tornados, so scary. Hated the tornado watches when I lived in Texas.

Rave, I'm sorry to hear about all the drama. I sure hope things get better now.

I had my own drama this morning, but it pales in comparison.

First, the vet phoned to say I could go pick up Penny's pergolide. I said I'd be there in an hour.

Then, yesterday, Bill bought an ice chopper so I could make a safe path to our cars. I went out and started chopping and shoveling the chunks aside. The ice was about an inch thick, though there were thinner spots, which I tried to aim for without veering off too much from a fairly straight path to the cars.

I wore my sneakers with the spikeys on them, but then it started to rain, plus there was a lot of water from melting snow, and my feet got soaked. I should have worn my rubber riding boots, which are absolutely waterproof. I didn't really need the spikeys, since I could stand in the area I had chopped and cleared to do the next section.

So after I spent about an hour chopping ice in the rain, I came in and changed coats (my winter coat was soaked, though it's water repellent, and I had been dry inside it), and I got dry socks and my boots, which I should have worn before. Off I went to the vet's.

When I got there, someone was parked near the house in the circular drive, so I had to park farther away. Of course, no one had chopped a path in that driveway, and without the spikeys, of course, I slipped and fell. I landed on my left hip, which stings, like I had scraped the skin, though when I got home, I couldn't see a mark. I bet I'll be black & blue tomorrow, though.

So that's my minor drama for this morning.

We're getting lots of rain. If it was colder and this was snow, it'd be another major snowstorm.
