Dunno what to recommend. I have all of my feeders on the upper deck and the posts are electrified to prevent squirrels and coons and other critters from raiding them. One thing that I've heard works well is to hang the feeder from a tall shepherd's hook.

 Holy cow - what a fiasco! It sure is a good thing that you were willing and able to help out. Why am I not surprised? ;)

I've got a bit of cabin fever syndrome myself. Normal winters, I go out frequently and walk all over the place. Normally, we have snow on the ground for only a day or so. This year, we've had almost constant snow cover which is very tricky for me navigate through/over, and the temperatures have been downright frigid. I haven't been able to get out much at all. :(

Hmmm ... guess you'll just have to move to Indiana. :D

But it's so cold there and you get tornado's. Otherwise, I'd move in a heart beat.

I've been inundated with more drama. I could reallllllly go for a solid week of sheer boredom!

Woke up yesterday and the water wasn't working. Luckily, we keep about 20 gallons of water stashed in the basement. It's rather tough to remember to NOT flush the toilet. I checked the circuit breaker and it was on. Dave checked the wiring in the well and it seemed to be alive and well. So, I told my BF about it when he called. He remembered that we'd tried to disconnect the garden hose this past fall, but it had a steady leak, so we hooked it back up again. Dave went out to check out the hose. The water within the hose had frozen up and popped the nozzle off of the end. Then the thaw came. The water in the hose melted, ran out and emptied the well. My BF talked Dave through a temporary fix until he can fix it permanently this weekend. Crisis averted. It could have burned up the well pump. So now I have water again, and can flush.

Had my neurologist appointment yesterday and managed to get temporarily lost in fog so thick that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. I was late for my appointment. Doc tested the strength in my legs and wasn't happy. There was no response when he hit my right knee with the little rubber hammer either. He started to test my arms and then stopped as soon as he saw my smashed finger. That had happened when a big log fell down onto my hand collecting firewood. There were expletives involved.

I told Doc that my wrist has been bugging me since 2009, but is getting steadily worse. He asked me specifically where it is hurting. I showed him two spots. He pushed in hard on both of them and I gasped in pain. He said that they are tendon bunches and is referring me to a surgeon of some sort. Can't remember what type. CRS! They'll call me to set up a consult. Now my wrist is absolutely screaming and in the brace again.

Watched the flooded creek for awhile after I got home. Ice bergs were floating by. Then the wind picked up dramatically and the NOAA radio started yelling. Eventually it had us under a Tornado Warning and we all went down to my studio. While we were down there, the Sheriff called to warn about a tornado in our area. We heard the unmistakable throbbing of a tornado.

The tornados out here in the sticks are almost never confirmed because they need to be verified visually by certified spotters or law enforcement of some sort. My daughter and her hubby are both certified, but there's no seeing such a thing in the woods at night. We could see the hook echo and rotation on Doppler, but it will never be a confirmed tornado. Awhile back, we had one plow through my woodcutter's corn field and both he and his cousin and a neighbor saw it move through (heading to my place!). It was never confirmed.

Enough drama already!! I'm ready for some peace and quiet. Calgon take me away!

See email when I finish it. Calgon? I'd go for whiskey. ;)

Rave, I'm sorry to hear about all the drama. I sure hope things get better now.

I had my own drama this morning, but it pales in comparison.

First, the vet phoned to say I could go pick up Penny's pergolide. I said I'd be there in an hour.

Then, yesterday, Bill bought an ice chopper so I could make a safe path to our cars. I went out and started chopping and shoveling the chunks aside. The ice was about an inch thick, though there were thinner spots, which I tried to aim for without veering off too much from a fairly straight path to the cars.

I wore my sneakers with the spikeys on them, but then it started to rain, plus there was a lot of water from melting snow, and my feet got soaked. I should have worn my rubber riding boots, which are absolutely waterproof. I didn't really need the spikeys, since I could stand in the area I had chopped and cleared to do the next section.

So after I spent about an hour chopping ice in the rain, I came in and changed coats (my winter coat was soaked, though it's water repellent, and I had been dry inside it), and I got dry socks and my boots, which I should have worn before. Off I went to the vet's.

When I got there, someone was parked near the house in the circular drive, so I had to park farther away. Of course, no one had chopped a path in that driveway, and without the spikeys, of course, I slipped and fell. I landed on my left hip, which stings, like I had scraped the skin, though when I got home, I couldn't see a mark. I bet I'll be black & blue tomorrow, though.

So that's my minor drama for this morning.

We're getting lots of rain. If it was colder and this was snow, it'd be another major snowstorm.

I hope your hip is only bruised and not anything worse.

Well, our weather is kind of crappy, too. It was foggy as heck this morning, then cleared around 11AM. The temperature went up to about 65 for a little while with some weak sunlight. Now, we're getting a thunderstorm. Jeesh! The ground is saturated from the melting snow which looks so pathetic now, even though there's still about 6 inches left after all the warm weather and rain we've already had. It was weird walking Bo, warm from my knees up, but kind of on the cold side from the knees down from the snow still on the ground. No wonder it looked like San Francisco here this morning. Just had a really bright flash and heavy thunder, and it's still, technically, winter.

Well, it's true that it gets cold and we have occasional tornadoes. But - I haven't pulled a "Dorothy" yet. And we have sunshine. Usually a lot of it, and that makes everything more bearable. And we have snow. Hope you get some with that next expected storm.

Oh jeesh - I do hope you're okay after that fall. The rest sounds like a royal pain too. :(

Sandy, we had "thunder snow" the other day with the last snow storm. Today it was a regular old warm weather thunder storm. Bottom line is that if enough electrons get moved around, either by precipitation or wind/cloud friction, it will produce lightning and thunder.

Careful on that ice. I know I don't bounce as well as I used too.

Rave, don't you know that Murphy lives everywhere? I agree with Terry, a couple of finger of JD would work well!

I actually had the fog all the way on "My" drive to NYC today - left New Hope at 11 AM arrived NYC 1 PM - Yep 3 hours for a drive that normally only takes approximately an hour - since I wasn't going to get into a miss hap on the highway, especially with all the pot holes . . . BTW: I guess "You" didn't hear the weather reports warning for a Tornado Watch, that included Mercer & Hunterdon County and up to northern NJ for this afternoon then . . .;)

Since Lizzie asked, the hip will be fine. It hurt for a few hours today, but I can't even feel it now. One thing I've noticed: if you're into horses, you're used to getting hurt in minor ways. I've fallen off and been hurt worse than my fall today. Of course, landing on solid ice was a harder surface than I usually fall onto from a horse, but the height wasn't so great, so I guess it all equals out. Here's a video illustrating my point about horse people vs. regular people: Evention Tv Presents: The Difference Between Regular People and Horse People - YouTube

Hi everyone, I hope everyone's troubles clears up soon.

So today I chopped and hacked and sawed some limbs that fell in that icestorm we had. Life sucks when all you got to break up logs is a cane cutter and a bow saw. Our axe broke sometime back and our electric chainsaw... well lets just say we know why it was given to us. My right arm from the elbow down hurts like . But the bright side is I have no blisters (even though I refused to wear gloves) and all the large limbs are cut to use as firewood for our pit we have outside. Now all I need to do is break the smaller limbs up. :D

I'll post some pics of the pit as soon as I can get around to taking them. I have a feeling I will be sore tomorrow. Bending over and hacking away for five hours will make anyone sore.

Wow! Another gorgeous pic. Did you take that?

Yes, I visited a small zoo in Binghamton, NY, last summer, mainly because they had one of Binghamton's famous historic carousels. I want to visit all the carousels in Binghamton at some point. I got lots of carousel horse photos, too. I guess I'll share some of them, too.

You can assume all the photos I post are ones I've taken unless I say otherwise.

Celtic, I know the feeling. I'm a little sore from my ice-chopping yesterday. And my hip does hurt when I put pressure on it. Typical bruise. I'm not as sore from chopping as I thought I'd be, though. Of course, it didn't take me 5 hours, either.

I hope your aches and pains go away soon. Mild exercise today is the best cure.

How about this? Coelacanth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This fish was thought to be extinct for millions of years till it was found again in the 1930s. I've been thinking that all the accounts of dragons might actually be dinosaurs that have survived when we thought they were extinct. And what about creatures like the Loch Ness monster? Maybe these dragons/dinosaurs are dying out now due to pollution, but they might have existed in the past and fossils of them just haven't been found. I mean, how many fossils are found compared to the number of actual animals living in the past? Unfortunately, the only people who seem to agree with this theory are creationists. I'm not saying the age of the Earth is not as old as commonly supposed, just that dinosaurs, like the coelacanth, could have existed without leaving any trace, other than stories, that they did.

What do you think? Why would dinosaurs or dragons be described worldwide? Could they have really existed? Maybe a scarce few still do?
