Duct tape is the poor man's tool. I'd be lost without it. :p

Onto my drawing. First I'd like to say that my first attempt at color didn't have the impact that I was hoping for. I need to get a darker blue. Also the snow is light blue in my drawing but it shows gray in the photo. I tried to bring out the blue in photoshop but nada.

Baby%20Penquin%20compare.jpg

Materials used:

Graphite powder for the baby's fur smudged with a stump.
Dark charcoal for the head.
Light blue pastel stick for the sky, blended with a cotton ball.
Light blue pencil for the snow, similar to Very Thin.

It's a winner, Terry. Love this one!!

Thanks Rave. And this one didn't get a whole lot of blue marks and you didn't yell at me to darken anything. I guess I'll have to try something tougher next time. :D

Now - you know I wouldn't yell at ya. But, I'm not easy on ya either. That isn't helpful to anyone. :)

Fantastic, Terry. I think your experiment with color is great!!!!

Sorry it is raining, again, as usual, for ya.

Raven - Nice to hear you are cleaning your house. Now, don't over do it!!!!

I haven't gotten a thing done today except to drive for an hour and twenty minutes, each way, to buy those horse feeders for cheap. Oh, I also went to the bank. That is it. I really do have to go out and do something for an hour or two.

Wow! Once again, I like the definition in the drawing better than the fuzziness of the photo. I don't mind the blue being lighter, either, unless you'd prefer it darker. You used just the right touch of color with b&w. I love it. In fact, I don't have any suggestions about how to improve it. Perfection!

Here's a vid that some of you horse people have probably already seen but it's worth another peek. I get all choked up when I watch it. No saddle, bridle or halter. Wow!

I've seen this video before, of course, but this is one I never tire of watching! I just wish I could ride as well and Penny was so obedient! One thing that's always puzzled me. Why, after that amazing bridleless performance, did she put a bridle on the horse to lead it out of the arena? Maybe there's a rule that the horse has to be wearing a bridle in the stable area "backstage." That's the only thing that I can think of. I have a few favorite horse videos, and this is one of them. I guess I should dig up the others to share.

OK, here's another horse video I really admire. In fact, it impressed me so much that when I first saw it, I went and tried some of the stuff with Penny. We were at Deb's then, so we had the indoor ring, and it was cold and slippery outside, so it gave us a project for the indoor ring. I did the walk stuff at the beginning. I found a length of PVC pipe about the thickness and length of the pole in the video. The only problem was that the PVC was flexible, and it sagged a bit in the middle when we circled to go under it. And balancing it on my shoulder and circling looked easier than it was. The circle has to be absolutely even or you lose the pole.

Yes, it's probably a rule to protect the stadium owners from being sued if somebody spooked the horse and somebody got hurt. I'm sure she didn't need the bridle to get the horse to follow her out. I just love that vid, especially the part where she go full out and then comes to a sliding stop. Spectacular!

Thank lizzie and Sandy. That's very high praise.

I was at the art store today and guess what they have? White gel pens! The same one that I have been waiting to ship for days now. Crap! I showed the owner the sleeping puppy and she said it was her favorite so far. Woo hoo! I sweated blood on that one. LOL! I didn't have a pic of the baby penguins so I'll show her that one next time I'm in. Can you believe she didn't have any pastel pencils? She said she would order so though.

Sandy...have you heard of Nupastel pastel color sticks by Sanford Prismacolor? She described them as being between pastel and crayon. Not as chalky as pastel. She had a set of these but they were expensive so I thought I'd ask you first.

I've never heard of them, but they have oil pastels, which I've never tried, so maybe they are that? It would be neat if at the store, they'd let you play with one. After all, if you go clothing shopping, you can try something on. Why not one open box that people could play with on a pad of paper? I guess it'd get expensive if they had to have a sample of every drawing instrument they sell.

Yeah, she said they were kinda like oil pastels but not as oily. I want to try them for backgrounds but it was $20 for 12 colors and I just came from the dr and have to schedule physical therapy again so I'm broke this month. That darn Rave gave me her tendonitis in both my wrists. :glare:

Oh, one more thing. We can try out most everything in the store but these sticks were in a tin set so they wouldn't be able to sell it so yes, it probably isn't feasible for open a tin for us to play with.

OK, here's another favorite video. Maybe you need to know about dressage to appreciate what the camel is doing, but what about those one-tempi changes? That when a horse does a flying change of lead every stride.

That was fantastic! I've never seen a camel doing dressage. The side passes and flying lead changes were great and he even bowed. Who would of thunk you could train a camel to do that?
