I am so ...... off. That "free" screening colonoscopy is cost me $570. Honestly, I knew this would happen. I told Hubby they were all being too optimistic about the free thing and they didn't care because it isn't their money [or it is their money since they are conning me into the colonoscopy procedure and they will get paid one way or another].

I knew if they found any polyps, they switch it up and it becomes a medical procedure and you will have to pay but I didn't have any polyps so I was hopeful that it would be free like they said. Now I find out that it isn't free because I have on my record that I have hemorrhoids and IBS.

Somehow, I just feel that the system is designed to scam you but I guess since I was sure I would be scammed that I'll have to find peace with that fact.

The whole thing pisses me off, frankly.

The part that pisses me off is that they know that in the billing department if any thing at all is found that it will not be free but they don't inform you. And, they can see from the chart it won't be considered screening and they don't mention that there will be charges for sure because of that.

They wait and then blindside you with a bill you were not expecting.

PS - I feel better now. I am still going to eat and pay the bills and I knew in my heart this would happen. Moving forwards.

Gotta go clean a house.

Anyway, we will still be eating and I now know I probably don't have some horrible colon disease so there you have it.

Lizzie, I know it's galling and, at best, "dis-ingenuous" (being polite, more like lying outright), but at least you have the results which showed nothing particularly dangerous. Actually, $570 in todays world isn't all that bad for a procedure that includes a surgical suite and anesthesia, but it's still aggravating that you got charged for a "free" procedure. In the rest of the business world it would class as "bait and switch".

Hi gang, I'm checking in from 1029 ft.

Rave, I hope Dizzy responds to the antibiotic, she sure sounds like a sweet little girl holding your finger like that, aww.

Lizzy, I'm glad they didn't find anything scary in the test, but yeah, don't get me started what a racket all that can be.

Evie, It's wonderful that you are feeling so much better!

Okay, that's about all I can remember, lol. Hope you all have a good Monday!

Hiya, Voltpipes. :)

Princess, the big question is; are you still feeling good? I worry about ya, you know.

I forgot what my dwarf name is.

I know you worry and I'm feeling great!! I am enjoying seeing all my customers and finding out I have been missed at work. It makes you feel good.;)

Lizzie, that does sound like a scam. Look over your paperwork carefully, see if there's anything about when you'll be charged in the fine print, and if there isn't, and they told you it was free, then it sounds illegal to me. I wonder if there's a way to not have to pay it if you can prove no one told you about the conditions for the charges. A lawyer?

Sorry, folks, I had just gotten off the phone with the insurance company who told me it is the fault of the billing office at the GI center since they didn't code it right..... so I called the billing office who told me that it was the way that insurance gets out of paying and since I do have previous conditions that they wouldn't consider that a screening colonoscopy. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb. So frustrating.

It is nobody's fault so I will end up paying. I really did know that this is a scam the way they tell you that a screening colonoscopy is free under the ACA but they really aren't free since you have to pay if they find a polyp. However, no polyps but I am still going to have to pay. I just wish they wouldn't lie like that since they should have figured out it wasn't going to bill under a screening colonoscopy and just got me the real costs up front.

It is basically impossible to find out what anything will cost until you get the bill when it comes to medicine. The darndest system ever designed. It's like playing Let's Make a Deal. Behind the curtains are several different billings, all for the same procedure, which one would you like to take?

#1 A lawyer would cost me more than the bill.

#2 The fine print says that nothing that happens is their fault whether it is medical or billing.

Awsum - the whole thing really is sort of a bait and switch con game but that is modern medicine for you.

I',m better about it now. Again, sorry for the rant.

Oh Lizzie - that looks like a clear cut case of misinformation. That's something that I wouldn't and couldn't stand still for. 'Course, that's easy for me to say cuz I'm not in your shoes ...

Anyhow - I'm glad that nothing bad showed up in the test results. But, I'm sorry that they mislead you - even if you did suspect that is was not on the up and up. This just deepens my distrust of the medical industry. :grr:

I find this misinformation, misdirection and lack of info to be common. Hubby has a low thyroid so they said get an ultrasound of that little gland and a few blood tests. It ended up being hundreds of dollars for the ultrasound - with insurance. The doctor then sent him to a specialist who did an ultrasound for .... $30, the cost of an office visit co-pay. Go figure.

I often feel like we are dealing with used car dealers rather than medical professionals. And medical professionals hate when you look stuff up on the internet even though if you don't, you won't have performed due diligence to try to help keep yourself from being put through the medical wringer.

I keep saying to Hubby, let's just not get sick. Until we all figure out how to have a sane medical system in this country, it is buyer beware!!!!!!

Sitting down, facing forward.
We.ve been in the 90's for a few days with humidity to match. The weather guessers have been saying we're going to get storms. None yesterday, predicted, none last night, predicted, none today, predicted, but it looks like we're about to get run over. There has been a lot of heavy thunderstorms west and north of us in PA and north Jersey but we seem to have ducked most of it.

I wonder if anyone has correlated the increase in medical costs to the increase in regulation and paperwork required from doctors. I know my Internist has had to add staff since I've been seeing him just to do the additional paperwork. Mrs. Awsum's Endocrinologist does not accept insurance, at all, just to avoid the paperwork and payment issues. He still has a staff of two as a result and while a little pricey, he is a "big timer" and in Manhattan, he isn't all that much more expensive than the shoemakers out here. Another interesting phenomenon is that the procedures get billed at one rate to an insurance carrier and a very different rate if paid directly by the patient. What's up with that??

Oh man! You don't even wanna get me started on the medical industry. That's all that I'll say....

We had big time stormage with 60 mph winds that roared through here earlier. I was in the basement amazingly fast when I heard those winds approaching through the forest. As quickly as it blew in, it left. Just a steady rain afterwards with no additional drama.

Terry is now in Des Moines, IA and will be getting here tomorrow. :D

The reason insurance is so high. If you're paying direct most of the time you can negotiate for a lower rate. Little known fact. I've done it with out of network Dr.s before.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I would be ...... too, in fact I wouldn't have paid it. I always question free anything. And my motto is you get what you pay for.
