Taking the kids to meet Penny worked better than I thought. The girl was a bit scared at first, and the boy wasn't too sure, either, but by the end, they were begging for more time to ride, and I had to cut it short and promise there would be another visit. The boy actually learned the rudiments of steering and stopping and getting Penny to go and rode her around the yard all by himself, though I was never far away. Here are some pictures.

Hey guys. Things have been pretty rough and I'm really in a funk so I decided to try to cheer myself up by looking at some old pics of places I've been and things I like and like to do. I kinda followed Rave's lead. You'll see what I mean. :) Some of these pics are old and some not so old but there are a lot of them. I think I may out do Rave with the number of pics posted. This has been good therapy for me to see these pics so I hope you enjoy.

I'm on a forum break and will likely go back to that so I hope you enjoy my pics and I hope everyone is doing good.

Nice pictures Sandy!8-o
On the second pic penny has her ears to the back. Doesn't trust him?

Penny's ears are facing back like she is listening behind her, not flat back like when a horse is angry. A horse will turn its ears in the direction of its focus, so she is paying attention to the boy on her back.

Gorgeous photos, Terry! I didn't know you do leather work, too. Impressive. Have you done anything else besides the holster? I'd love to see it if you have pics.

Terry, I'm not sure why, but looking at the pictures you posted made me think of this music.

I guess it could be classified as space music, though I think of it more like earth music.

Thanks Sandy. I've made a few holsters, carved belts and wallets, ammo bags and this pic:

I wish I had taken pics of the belts. They were really cool.

I don't know what to think about that vid. Thanks though. :)

Now I remember seeing that leather picture before. I wish you had photos of the belts, too. The only solution is to make more, and this time, photograph them.

That music is weird, but I like it. It's not everybody's cup of tea, though. I understand.

Good Morning All!!

Sandy - is was wonderful that the kids enjoyed riding Penny! Loved the photos. Now I have faces to go with "the boy" and "the girl". :) I also really enjoy your evening photos. You're such a good photographer.

Terry - I loved your photos too!! That's excellent mood therapy. The scenery here will be quite different, but there are so many things to do and explore. It will be a whole new life for you. Hang in there. You'll be in one of these before ya know it.

Welll .... not that particular company, but still, just sayin'.

Tritium - congratulations on changing your brake fluid. I didn't even know that should be done.

Good morning, Voltpeeps.

Sandy - The kids are so cute riding Penny.

Terry - Great photos. Love watching waves. You definitely are an artist and I loved seeing your leather work again. What lake is that? Beautiful. I there a lot of trout?

Evie - I hope your doctor's appointment goes well on Wednesday.

Trit - Good job on changing the brake fluid.

Coffee is ready. There is some coffee grounds in it this morning. The filter must have collapsed on one side. I hear the old-timers used to strain it through their teeth. Give it a try:)

It definitely feels like fall. 46 degrees out and it was cloudy all weekend. We had more rain. I am certain that we got well over an inch of rain this weekend.

We had to get the dogs set up better for the colder weather. They like to sleep all three in a three sided box I made for the dogs so we put in a wood floor and installed a lip made out of a fence board so we could put straw in it. We used some plywood from the old goat hut and the floor used to be part of the roof so There are 2x4's underneath to raise the floor off the dirt. Hubby hung some conveyor belt rubber material so they could have a door.

We also moved their doghouses out front since they weren't using them in the back yard. However, they seem to like sleeping together. So cute.

We also got some plywood and a door up on the goat shed. Not really ideal since we slapped it up in the rain. We will have to back and do a better job later during the nice weather coming up shortly. The goats look dry and they like their straw bedding.

I have a long day of cleaning today. Hope everyone has a good day.

Wow Lizzie - I always feel like such a slacker when I read what all you get done over the weekend! I'm impressed! Um ... by contrast, we got some turnips turned over that didn't make it because it was too wet this summer, and sowed more seed, BF put new spark plugs in Jeepers and used liquid tape on the wiring, AND we got the hose for the artesian spring cleared out and siphoned. I have cold and cold running water again down at camp! YAY!!

We need a photo of your pups sleeping together. I don't believe they're cute! Need photographic proof! ;)

Don't work too hard cleaning today. Yeah .... right!

Wow rave!! That's progress. It always amazes me how you build houses in the states, they seem to be easy to build and many technical details involved (i like that) So many posibilities to do stuff the way YOU like it, so many cool materials.

Our houses here are concrete, brick, tiles and wood. My roof at the village weighs almost as the house, there are advantages like mine which is earthquake proof, supports a second house if needed above, wind simply cannot touch you, very good insulation.
The downside is it will take you forever to finish it by yourself and costs a lot more. You cannot change things that easy and it costs. No one builds on his own here.
Great pics i hope you keep us posted.
I wish i was there to help, we could have the house in 1 week LOL.

Hi Lizzie and Sandy :)

I was thinking your houses are probably like the ones I saw in Turkey, and it sounds like they are. I think the 2 features are that they are resistant to earthquakes and that they are cool in very hot weather. And maybe also that they are well-insulated against the cold, since when I was in Turkey, people generally didn't have central heating. It didn't get cold enough in winter to make that necessary.

I loved the patterns in the tile floors. Each square was designed so it matched up with its neighbors to make a bigger design, like this:

220px-Cyprus_floor_tile.jpg220px-Cyprus_floor_tile.jpg

Oops! I got 2 copies of the picture! Oh well, it might show how they fit together better.

Hi Lizzie and Sandy :)

Nope - it can't go up that fast because they are earning the money to build it as they go. It'll take some time even though they both have the same job and it pays well (for Indiana). I'm thinking that it won't be done until autumn of 2015, but I may be overly pessimistic. It isn't just the house that needs to be completed. He also has to put in the septic system (not cheap!), a well, the heating and cooling (which is going to be something off the beaten track), and he stubbornly believes that he can produce his own electricity. Kudos for the thought, but I don't think it's plausible in the middle of the forest on his budget. Neither does my BF. I'm worried that it will be difficult for them to install a realistic system after the thing is already built.

I'm thinking that the houses in your village are probably much more "permanent" and aesthetically pleasing than the stick-built homes here. But - they are relatively fast to build!

Hey Sandy!
Maybe in the south they don't use a lot of heating, where i live we do need it. Modern houses do not have colored tiles (or patterns etc). Roof tiles are red usually and VERY thick and heavy, tiles inside the house usually white or light colors. My roof is made of reinforced concrete and there is a wooden construction above to hold the roof tiles. The result is very good insulation from the sun, comon construction technique in the mediterranean region since we have a lot of sun.
They are difficult to build and expensive, if you want to place an antenna for example you have to take off 500 roof tiles and then put them back together like a puzzle (and hope no water gets through).
Not to mention new cabling if needed.... They use tubes inside the concrete walls and you have to pull, if you have large enough tubes will be fine but there is a limit or else you have to dig cements and stuff. Makes a mess and it's AGAIN expensive.

Houses in the states are way more better on this i believe, new cables? Throw them inside the wall, make new holes and you are done, makes it easier for rave's son to install house automation in the future :D :D (throwing ideas for him lol) Like lifting up the stories automatically in the morning, closing them on high winds, remote management etc.

That's an interesting topic, tell him NO!
You can do it if you design your roof to accept solar panels, install a backup generator to provide the house and charge batteries at the same time in case you won't have sun for a few days, the cost will be as much as the complete house, you need inverters, BIG batteries (which need to be changed every few years). All that costs a lot of money and in case you don't consume a lot (no electric water heaters and stoves) It is doable IF you have 30-40-50 thousands. You can also introduce a wind turbine to the system and they will work all together (yeah that's extra money) .

Well okay, Voltville - Anyone up for a Kermit ride to the elk farm? I stitched together a couple of videos that I took yesterday along with some stills. In the video, when I focus the camera off to the side instead of the road, that's where the elk farm begins. It's a HUGE place and the elk have tons of pasture and forest to roam. You can see two elk cows as we zip by. The first group of elk that you see after we turn around are young bulls and cows. You can hear one of the bulls bugling in the second video clip and also in the third. It isn't the one with the huge rack that I show in the video though. It's another in a pasture further away. Sorry about the one video clip with the two cows where it's really wobbly. I was standing. That never works out well.
