Sandy, we used to supply security for "Peter Pan Records" who actually produced the vinyl disks. The production process was amazing and they did a lot of special, high end, music as well for collectors. It was all, basically, done by hand one disc at a time in a very clean environment. Wish I had taken photos to share with you for the boy.

Mrs. Awsum mowed the entire lawn today and did a good job! This is about the fourth time she has driven the tractor, since we got it when we moved in here, and the first time she mowed the entire lawn, front and back. One of our neighbors kept driving back and forth watching and waving to her. They aren't used to seeing a female mowing on a lawn tractor, LOL. She also runs the snow blower, but they haven't seen that yet.

Mrs. Awsum used to go to a gym five days a week. Not a "women's" gym but a real, old fashioned, iron gym. She's not in the same shape now, none of us are I think, but she has kept a lot of strength from pumping all that iron.

Awsum, I'd love those old photos. Too bad. I have photos of records I got off the Internet, but I wish I had a real record to show him. It's hard to imagine a whole generation is growing up with no ideas of records. The science behind how the sound is electronically picked up from vibrations of the needle on the record's grooves is what's getting me. I sort of understand it, but the explanations I find are pretty technical, and this is a kid reading at probably 3rd-grade level.

I've got cases of records in the basement from when they were the only way to play music. 45's, 78's and 33's. One day I may convert them to MP3 or whatever but I'd need a working turntable first, LOL.

There are companies that do this, though it might be worth investing in the equipment if you have a lot of them you want to transfer.

In reality, we do have a turntable, a decent one, and I think it works. Equipment is just some cables to hook up the line out of the stereo to the line in of the PC. A little free or low cost software and away we go. It's more a question of motivation I guess, LOL. Too many other "projects" ahead of that one. Plus, a lot, or even all, of that music can be had, for free, online now a days.

You got me thinking about those albums, and one is now on CD, and I just ordered it. The other, I saw some time ago as a vinyl record for sale, but now, nothing. I have it on cassette tape, but that's going to wear out, if it hasn't already. It's an album called Guitar Extraordinary, by Vincente Gomez. Classical guitar pieces I love.

I don't think you could pull a Vamo top cap using an old atomizer, especially if the threads in the 510 connector are already toast. That would be like trying to drive a railroad spike with a tack hammer for comparison...a 510 versus a nominal 1 inch press fit, the 510 will let loose long before the press fit.
You wouldn't be pulling it. You'd be using it as a lever, like a joystick to wiggle the top cap off.

Good morning, Voltians.

Did you see that Pluto may be a planet after all?

Mark Cavendish finally won a sprint in the Tour de France!

I feel badly for Tony Martin who was so happy when he got the yellow jersey and then crashed the very next day and is now out of the race.

It rained and rained last night. This is probably the most moisture we have gotten in the month of July, ever. Wonderfully cool and lovely outside with a projected high of 80 degrees.

Lots of weeding available to do. Should vacuum again since I dusted after I vacuumed yesterday. Some chance of thunderstorms again today. Nice.

Also, washing all the rugs. Clean the bathroom [yeah, I didn't get that done yesterday], pruning the suckers off the trees, picking produce from the garden with my gardening buddy. We should have zucchinis. We certainly enjoyed our fresh new potatoes the other day.

I actually feel pretty caught up on stuff around here. Nice!

Glad you thought of co-oping on the garden. Certainly eases the work, and increases the opportunity to socialize. Work is much more enjoyable when mutual cooperation is part of it.

Me, too! It has been wonderful.

I sort of agree, Celti, but not every scientist works in medical/biological fields. Given that it takes extraordinarily motivated, not to mention intelligent, individuals I'd rather have them motivated in medicine and biology if they're going to work on that.

Pluto is a planet, no matter what Neils Bore might say!

I don't care all that much what they want to call Pluto. It's there, whatever it is, though it probably is worthwhile trying to find out about it.

Awsum, you said just what I thought: some scientists want to focus on planets, and others on diseases. What really matters is where the money goes. Which do the suppliers of grants think is more important?

On the home level, I went to the barn today so the farrier could trim Maija's hooves. I left her barefoot rather than having him put shoes on. I want to get boots to ride her on the stony dirt roads.

But the odd thing was, she was not very good for the farrier. Especially when he held up her hind feet, she resisted and kicked out a bit, trying to get her foot out of his grip. He yelled at her. I think, given what I know about her, that she was't comfortable lifting her leg up like that. Some sort of stiffness. I noticed it when lifting her hind leg to clean her feet, but I let her waggle her leg a little and then she was good. I don't think the farrier let her stretch and flex it; he just picked it up and started to work on it. I think next month, I'll use a different farrier.

The very strange thing was, though, that to calm her and get her to cooperate with the farrier, I stood at her head and stroked her forehead and said soothing words to her. She nestled her head against my chest, her eyes half closed in relaxation, so I was surprised that with no change to that, she struggled with her hind feet. If I did this with Penny, she would give me signals like raising her head, opening her eyes, shifting her weight. I'd know that she was going to resist. But Maija gave no such warning.

I rode her in the ring afterwards, and she was good, but I deferred cantering, something I need to try one of these days, till a less stressful day when she feels very mellow.
