to y'all! You guys are always hanging around to give great advice or just there to ramble on about what's going on in y'alls neck of the woods. It's been a heck of a couple years but things are finally looking up. No neighbors and more fun.

Good morning, Voltbeings.
Well, we hooked up Wiseguy to the cart yesterday and it became apparent that everything got hooked up wrong. A mini disaster in harnessing. I don't know how we got it so wrong but I didn't figure it out until we were on the road. I had Crystal help me with her side of the harness and Wiseguy is now standing in a hole where the hitching post is. Between the two factors, and the fact that I didn't do a thorough check of the harnessing, Wiseguy was pulling from his surcingle instead of pulling from his chest. That is not good.
Crystal and I fixed some of it while we were on the road. That is one of the good things about having two people.
I told Crystal, "Hey, we [meaning me] may have screwed up but at least we are out here trying. A lot of people never do a darn thing with their horses but we are getting out and working with the horses and sometimes we are going to make mistakes."
I'm going to bring in a load of dirt and fill in the hole. And next time I will do a good double check of the harness positioning before we hit the road.
We went further this time and Wiseguy seemed a little tuckered out by the time we got home. poor little guy. I think a lot of it was the improper harnessing.
I have to work today and get a few things at the grocery store.

Ah yes that's an old vid from the states, those towers exist only there because you have very flat areas. We have mountains so this size is not needed. There is a higher quality version of the same video.

Okay - Now just a couple of comments . . .
Boy was I a - "BAD BOY" . . .
Not only was I not here to post Happy Birthday wishes - I totally forgot to call "My" Eldest Sister to wish her a Happy Birthday yesterday too . . .
BTW: "celtic" she just turned 72 - so if "You" are anything like her expect some longevity coming your way . . . Just Sayin' . .

It may not seem like it at times, however there are a number of people around here that care about "You" - Young Man . . . AND - I just happen to be only one of them . . . So There -

Uncle, when climbing towers it can look pretty scary, but in reality, assuming you're not afraid of heights, it's no different than a step ladder. I will admit to doing some "unsafe" things when climbing and wonder if I could climb something like in that video. One of the things you can's see in the video is the wobble in the tower itself as the wind blows. Even though it's guyed there is still flex and wobble from the wind. That can get un-nerving to say the least.
Ain't that the truth, LOL. I was up at 800 feet on a tower here in Princeton years ago, an elevator ride if you want to call that an elevator. The landing was a steel grate floor, of course, and it would tilt back and forth from the compression and expansion caused by the wind. A very weird feeling. Not a lot of tilt mind you, but enough to feel and when you're standing on a needle like that it is disconcerting.
Uncle, you're on your own with that camera. I just stumbled on it and have know direct knowledge of it. It does look pretty good and if you place it right it could be pretty much hidden, like on a bookshelf peeking over the top of the books for example.

I agree with Lizzie -- climbing a tower like that would never be a job I could do. I'm not afraid of heights and find them rather exhilarating -- the view from high up is fascinating -- but not out in the open like that, and one of my first thoughts, while watching the video and before reading the comments was that it would be scary on a windy day.

Free climbing, that's why, we all do it but this got attention. He was wearing a harness.
Looking at that video I didn't see the typical safety cable in the middle of the ladder, where it was a real ladder. Further up, when it was just pegs on a pole, there wasn't one either. Free climbing is, basically, the only way to go short of two lanyards that you alternate as you climb so one is always attached. That makes climbing really slow and, looking at the weather, it looked like they need to work kind of quickly. Sometimes I think that stopping and attaching safety gear every two rungs or so makes it more dangerous than just free climbing. When I free climb I always make sure there is only one loose limb at a time. Two feet or two hands firmly planted. That's actually quite safe, at least to me.
Incidentally, the typical "elevator" is nothing more than a platform, mounted on rails, and hoisted by a winch. If it's a really "safe" one it might have more than hand rails.
We were supposed to put a amateur repeater on a tower down at the shore. It was a 250' tower with a real house style enclosure on to that was built to watch for subs during the war. The tower was really big, the base was a 100 foot triangle and the legs were easily six inches in diameter. Anyhow, we went to the site to look it over and check out the equipment and antenna location on the house on the top. We got there to find the "elevator" a twisted pile of junk tangled in twisted rails. We decided not to site the equipment there, LOL. They were taking up some equipment and either overloaded it or the lift cable just snapped, we never found out for sure what happened.

The wind is gusting to 49 mph and soon I will be attempting to feed the critters despite the ridiculously high winds. I hope we have some shingles left on the roof. This is a bad time of the year to replace a roof. We now have the funds but we are trying to make it through the winter!
We are thinking we will have a metal roof installed.
Also, it is really warm outside at 56 degrees and we may, finally, be in for some rain. I suppose the rain will be arriving just about the time I have to go out to feed the critters.
I think I'll bake bread and clean the house and read a book today.

Spring has sprung, again! It's 65 here with three feet of sunshine, as Wuzz would say. By the way, still thinking and sending prayers, Wuzz. If it gets any warmer I'll be breaking out the shorts again. I have doors and windows open, enjoying the nice day while I'm doing some more cleaning.
Lizzie, I've got to hand it to you. You go out and clean other folks houses as well as doing your own. Just keeping our little place clean is a full time job for me, so how you manage to do it all amazes me!

About this Climbing & Heights . . . The funny, or should I say humourus thing is that in "My" Youth I would climb to the top of the NJ Side of the Delaware Water Gap (which the majority of was slate) and had only a few areas that you could barely get a toe on . . .
Also - I would actually, Hang off Cliffs of Mountains/Climb up & Dive off Top of Waterfalls/Hang off Building Rooftops & over hangs without any fear at all . . . It was only as I got older (30-40's) that I started to have problems with heights without having something secure to hold on to or in front of "Me" like a wall . . . Those metal banister on terrace 25 stories up - NOPE - NOT HAPPENING - it had to be a cement wall . . . Ya' should have seen "Me" stepping on the Glass floor in the CN Tower in Toronto to look down at the ground - Ya' definitely be laughing . . .
