I decided to get some large pots to help define the area and have a bit of green near the deck.

The step and the pipe cover. I built the frames and Hubby helped me put the top boards on. Hubby wants to get rid of my couch but I said no way, I love sitting out there and reading on my old couch.

This shows how nice it is with the shade cloth blocking the morning sun. That is the new wood furniture I bought.

Below is the east end of the shade cover where there is no deck. I decided to put down pavers and have plants and dog beds over here.

It is a thrill to be wrapping up the deck project. I do have one more step to build [after I get the materials next weekend]. And then there is the stain to put on. I need more pavers to finish the east end.

It took a month to do the French doors and deck. I hope to have all the details done including door trim by mid August when we have our annual BBQ.

The deck looks great, Lizzie! You're making me jealous and, maybe, motivated.

Just taking a cool down from working outside before I have some lunch. The weather station is reporting 95-97 with a feels like of 100-105. The thermometer on the deck is showing 100-103. It's kind of nasty out there with the humidity. Think I'll either read or work in the basement this afternoon.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone, I appreciate it.

The stain will even out the color but it will not be a lot darker. It will be a bit darker though. I'll take a picture of the sample tomorrow when I have good light.

Lizzie your porch is absolutely gorgeous!!! I'm a little envious. :sneaky: ;):lol:

I'm 56 years old and this is my first deck so not to worry, Celti, one day you too will have a deck:) It takes time.

I'm so sore from working on the deck all week and then cleaning a house yesterday, I can barely move! I need to work on getting the house cleaned up starting with the accumulation of stuff on every surface. When we use something, we don't put it away, we set it down. I've spent at least a month on the doors and the deck so the stuff and the dust are getting out of hand.

I'm making sure the office doesn't have tempting dog stuff in reach. Hubby and I decided the big dogs are determined to squeeze through Cash's new doggie door so we may as well give in and buy a bigger doggie door. Since we moved the dog door to the office last January, we can close the office doors and they don't have to have the run of the house while we are gone. They steal things like bread from the kitchen so I don't like them to have the run of the house while we are gone but the temps are so hot this year, I hate to lock them outside.

Cash likes to steal hats, gloves, blankies, clothing and shoes to take outside. So, it is better if he isn't allowed the run of the hose while we are gone, as well. He doesn't seem to ruin anything. He shakes it until it is dead and then leaves it in the yard. He has ruined a couple of shoelaces.

Sassy was making me laugh. I put the small doggie door in and she squeezed through it to my surprise and dismay. So I put a barrier up and she went over the top. I put a top on so she dug out underneath. I put some lattice down so she pushed the barrier over even though it was connected to a rail and she still got in. I wired the barrier so it couldn't be moved but made the hole in the barrier just a tiny bit bigger since Cash was getting to be a big boy. Just a little tiny bit bigger. And Sassy managed to squeeze through that tiny hole to get into the house. What a determined dog!

Looks like Wiseguy and I are headed an hour away on Saturday to play with the other minis. We are going to the Fallon area.

I heard that a big heat wave is supposed to coming back East. Sounds like the heat has already gotten to your place, awsum.

It's cooling down a bit here. Thank goodness, that 95 to 100 degree heat is just too much.

'moanin, Voltizens.

Happy Birthday, Sandy!!!! Enjoy your day

I just got back from blood work and am finishing my first cup before I make breakfast, or is it brunch by now? I don't like going there early, too much of a crowd and I end up sitting there, stuck with "The View" on TV, for at least an hour and a half. Going around 9 means no crowd and very little waiting, comparatively speaking at least.

Lizzie, imagine the heat you have with humidity up in the 80 to 90 percent range. Yesterday all I did was treat the driveway, from the curb to the parking area, with weed killer. All I had on was shorts and a sweat band and I was soaking wet within about fifteen minutes. It's even worse today, the humidity is up higher. In the morning I usually shut off the AC, open the windows and run a fan on exhaust to make air circulate. I leave it like that until noon or so when the sun is full onto the back of the house then close up and turn the AC on. This morning, the AC went back on at 9AM.

I think I'll read today.

Did you use cedar for your deck, Lizzie?

Doug fir for the deck. Hard to get different kinds of wood around these parts. The stain color I chose is called cedar.

I've got a neighbor coming by and then I have to help another neighbor with her irrigation timers.

Mostly, trying to rest up.

Hated the humidity in Dallas. I felt like why don't we just live in a Swedish sauna. Never could get used to it.

That is the color of stain I chose for the deck.

The guy at the counter told me take my time, take the card out into the sunlight, let him know when I decided. I looked over the card and thought "Not, red, not green, not dark, not white, that leaves me with "Cedar", I'll take it." Decision made in two minutes.

That's going to look really great, Lizzie! In these parts Doug fir is a premium wood. Structurally, it's probably the strongest around and a Douglas fir joist can have a greater span than any other type that I'm aware of. Here, we have a choice, CCA or Trex for decks.

Another hot, humid, day again today. I've got the windows open, right now, but the AC will be going on soon. It's to cottin pickin hot out there!

We are cooling down with 91 degrees today and supposedly 83 degrees on Sunday. I plan to stain the deck on Sunday since the guy told me not to stain it when it is over 90 degrees. Sunday and Monday may be the only 2 days I can do that until fall!
They make Trexx decking in Fernley.

Hey, Duckie, how's the chicks doin'?

We're still, vicariously, raising pups by watching that puppy cam. They're down to five from the original ten, one seems to have not made it at birth and four more have left over time. The whelping box is gone and they are getting big. They were weaned fairly early on, too. Their latest trick is pulling at a corner of the seamless flooring that is the floor in their "room" and pulling it back and gnawing on it. It's a temporary area for them, apparently, so the flooring isn't cut and glued in place. I hope they don't actually eat it, that might not be a good thing.

We did hear from our breeder and the "deed" was done. Now we're waiting to hear if the Mommy is actually pregnant. The wait is killing us both.

I just got back from a run to the post orifice, the lab to drop off a "sample", Lowes to get some more mulch (the decorative kind) and the grocery store to pick up some important sale items, ice cream and steak. It is brutal out there. At Lowes they will load your car when you buy bulk and I was sweating just waiting for the guys to get around the corner of the building. I do have to go out and get it out of the Jeep, it leaves a slightly (NOT) earthy ambience in the car otherwise. I guess, since I'll be handling it anyway, I'll spread it around where it needs to go. Think I'll take two bottles of water with me when I do that.

You are having a busy day, awsum. Good idea to take plenty of water with you.

I decided there were lots of yard sales so I would stop at some on the way home. Naturally, I spent my hay money on expanded metal patio furniture. I'll have to take a photo when I get it home. Wouldn't fit in the Toyota so I am driving back to Mound House with the big truck.

Right after I made that last post I was sitting here eating an apple and noticed it was getting a little dark outside. So, I checked the local radar and the thunderstorm was about five miles west of us, moving east. I ran out and threw the mulch into the lawn cart and parked it in the big shed. Closed the tailgate and windows and came back inside. Two minutes later it was pouring. Maybe I'll get to spread that mulch out in the morning, between thunderstorms.
