Whether we like it or not, here it's snowing quite a bit. I just now shot some photos of what's going on outside from the comfort of my house.

When I said I liked that other photo, I hadn't seen this one, which would up on the next page. Absolutely amazing!

Thanks there is a lot of this kind of landscape along the caprock reigon of Texas. It runs east of Amarillo south for about 150 miles.

I believe you have to be a US citizen to sign this petition :D

Yes you do. I was hoping the US citizens on this forum will read it and sign it and also read the information I've given. This isn't something to take lightly. If you do order from the US vendors, this can impact all of us.

Sitting down, facing forward.
So many thots popping 'bout the birds & cats... tablet is sloooow!
Raynes- thot the same about Leo. Reminded me of a cat show in CA!
SandySu - parakeet sounds like MIL' s. Petey played Solitaire w/ her. Cards all had chewed edges! Perched on her glasses.

Hope everyone's having a great day! Tis noon & we are at a balmy neg 2 w/ a feel of - 24.
Time to "waddle" out to check on the kids... then my favorite: clean mom's fridge. :grr: not a pretty picture.
take care! :vapor:

Just don't fall over and get stuck like a turtle on it's back, or Ralphie's brother LOL

Interesting. I looked it up and discovered a news clip about not feeding the parrots. San Francisco's Wild Parrots - CBS News Video Awsum will take issue with this ruling, I'm sure, and I'm wondering if I agree with him or not. Certainly interacting with wild animals can be dangerous, and sometimes people don't realize it when the wild animals, used to being fed, act tame. But weren't these birds originally pets? Maybe not by now, if they've bred in the wild.

Also, I found a site that lists other areas in SF where you can see wild "parakeets," though I think some they mention might be parrots. I thought I knew the difference between a parakeet and a parrot, but now I'm not sure. See how they use the term interchangeably here: Feral Parrot Poplulations in San Francisco

Last but not least, here's a trailer for the movie. It looks like a fun one. Independent Lens | The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill | Trailer | PBS - YouTube

It was a fun one. I found the entire film on YouTube! The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill - YouTube I think it's well worth watching, and I bet Blues would particularly enjoy it.

Ahh, yes, those vicious criminals feeding the parrots and pigeons should be jailed, then flogged in the public square, tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail and maybe even branded with a scarlet "B" on the forehead. Same is true of those that feed the deer in a bad winter by the same set of arguments. Now, if I can get my tongue out of my cheek..... The only real problem that I can see is the law of unintended consequences. Parrots aren't indigenous to San Francisco or northern California, I think anyway. A large population of them could raise havoc with the rest of the ecosystem like the Burmese Python is doing in the Everglades. Somehow, I think the birds would find food no matter how much they are fed by humans, instincts are very strong.

Hey Butch, how much red paint did that take to get them rocks looking like that and did the EPA issue a permit to paint them?

Well Volties, I enjoyed a quiet day, just lurking. I found a great price on the EGO VV 650 (Vamo) in Stainless Steel at exhalevapors.com in Austin Texas. If interesed you can get one for $47 shipped using coupon 40PercentOffECF. Great price, and I was Soooooooooo tempted. I even had it in my basket, but my finger just could not hit the complete sale button:facepalm:

I keep telling myself, Self You Do Not Need another TOY

Gotta run, this is my week to cook at our homeless shelter. Many of the men are interested in my e-cig, but I advised them it needs daily charging, is pricy to purchase, they need an address to ship to, and must buy e-juice. This is not an item for a homeless person to say the least. Catch up with you all much later tonight.

If you do buy one, use it at a low voltage. I've seen a few reviews where the voltages are rather high and they burn up cartos/attys. See A PBusardo Review - The Vamo - YouTube He did a review on version 2 as well.

As a member, you may listen only, so you'll need speakers or a headset. They do have a screen where you may type in your comments. Kristen reads them and usually comments on them, so you are really a part of the meeting. I suggest everyone try to attend as they update us on vaping concerns around the US and abroad. The fight is an uphill battle and we need all the help we can get.
Thanks for the promotion of CASAA, Tail11! :)

If I may just interrupt to clarify...members are absolutely allowed to speak at the meetings, it's just that most seem to prefer to type in the chat window. We just keep everyone's mic muted to keep the noise level down during the meeting. If someone wants to speak to ask a question or comment, their mic can be unmuted. We hope more people will join us! :)

You take some amazing pictures Butch! I have really been enjoying them. Please continue to share.
Where's the "DITTO!" button! Awesome photos! Texas huh?

We have an African Grey. He talks alot. I've had cockatiels and a couple conures (they screech!). Birds are fun, but messy - oh, you're right - I just got that one....PITA for sure (had to think out the letters !
What's a toucanette. Never heard of that one.
Blue and Golds are beautiful!!!

Birds are fun, and they can be very messy. The messiest bird that has ever lived under my roof was Schnoz. He was a beautiful toco toucan. The company that I worked for at the time purchased him as a mascot to promote their new product: the Toco 2000 PCB Design System ... which never quite made it. The bird was photographed intensely, went to one trade show, and then came home with me.

He was stunningly beautiful. If you click the thumbnail picture, you can see him a little better.

Schnoz.jpg

Unfortunately, Schnoz was a victim of the same exotic animal hunger that many people seem to have. He was kidnapped from his Brazilian rain forest home. In the process, his wing was broken. It never did heal correctly. Probably because he didn't get veterinary care. He was then fed monkey chow instead of the balanced diet that a toucan needs. He was in a tiny cage in a pet shop in Chicago when the company I worked for found him.

When I took him home with me, I ditched the cage. Instead, I made him a spiral staircase of perches. At the top, was his food and water. At the bottom was a sunlamp. In the morning, he would hop down to the lamp, facing it; and he would spread his wings and warm his front. Then, he would turn around and warm his backside. Invariably, his tail feathers would touch the lamp producing a curl of smelly smoke.

He was free to roam the entire room. That was the messy part. Toucans are largely fruit and insect eaters. He would hop to my headboard and bark at me until I paid attention to him. When I did, I had to watch my nose. Birds "bill" each other in their interactions. The only "bill" that he could find on me was my nose. His bill was 10" long, and serrated like a steak knife.

It always seems that the animals that come to live with me are thieves. Schnoz was no exception. One day, my daughter left a ham sandwich and a glass of milk in the room. We left the room for a few minutes. When we returned. The ham was gone from the sandwich. Much of the milk was gone too. Schnoz was on his perches doing his "oscillating electric fan" routine (moving his bill from side to side). I could just about hear him say "Nope - I didn't do it!"

Toucans can be fairly affectionate, but he had never been overtly so. I woke one morning to find him snuggled under the blankets with me in my bed. He was lethargic. I got him in to see the vet immediately. He was diagnosed with hemochromatosis. This was caused by having been fed monkey chow for far too long before I adopted him. His body was unable to eliminate the excesses of iron in his diet. Even after days of me giving him injections per the vet's instructions, his liver eventually failed. I'll always miss that goofy bird. He's the only bird I've ever bonded with.

The next one will be Feb 3 7:30-9:30PM EST. If you become a member of CASAA (it's free), they will send an email to you with the dates and how to log in for the meeting.

I received the confirmation email and entered this on my calendar. There is an access code and another for audio. Do I have to enter these right before the meeting?
