Clones... Why?

I like it, I want it, nothing else matters. I guess that's the bottom line for some people.

Are there droves of original Caravelas or Templars or Nemeses or whathaveyou sitting unbought on store shelves? What? You mean that the originals sell out quickly? There aren't warehouses full of originals gathering dust because everyone bought a clone of it instead? You mean ALL of them (virtually) were sold and the originator got what he asked for them?

No one is losing here because of clones except those who feel like because they were lucky enough/rich enough to get an original that no one else should have them or anything that looks like them.

At the end of the day, even though i would put it more diplomatically, Maurice is right.
When you buy a clone, you buy a counterfeit. A ripoff. A fake.
However, dont get pissy when someone points out that lack of morals.....you are the one buying the ripoff.
There is no way around that fact. All of the reasons are just excuses for what you have done.
If being told that bothers any one of you enough to actually respond to an argument in an internet forum, then you can spout off about how much you cant be stopped, how smart you are for buying the ripoff, all that blah blah......you know what you've done.
And on some level, it bothers you.
Or you wouldnt bother to defend your actions.
And yes, responding IS defending.

It's not about the money, people buy clones because of the "cool" factor. If it wasn't, they'd be buying inexpensive originals. Buy whatever you want, but using the excuse that anything but clones are too expensive doesn't wash.

Except that, as I said earlier, there is a long history and strong intellectual platform against the idea of intellectual property. If you don't subscribe to the righteousness of intellectual property law, then there is no moral conundrum, and none of those other reasons people use to buy clones are unethical or "excuses" for our so-called "bad behavior."

Some people overlook specific, stated factors in lieu of how they feel about things. They think they know why you buy what you buy better than you do.

Because my local shops had about 5 options, and I think the Maraxis looks stupid and uncomfortable. All I wanted was a straight solid tube. I didn't know or care about any of the other stuff. To me, it is a battery holder.

I suppose Johnny never heard of buying over the internet...or likes to hold the ripoffs that he is buying in his hand before he forks over the cash.
When you buy a clone, you are buying a ripoff of someone elses works.
The reasons for doing so are immaterial to that fact.

As a consumer, there's no point in paying more for no additional value or function. People buy clones for performance and looks at a lower price point. If the Magneto was the only mech at the $40 price point, I'd buy it. It's not and I can get better for the same amount of money, so I won't. Actually if it had a Magneto helmet logo on it, I'd buy it, but it doesn't have that either. The Fogger v4 is an "authentic" I purchased at $35 over an Aqua/Taifun clone at the same price point because it does what it's supposed to do better.

At that point, you are just buying a fake.

If you like authentics because you appreciate the craftsmanship or you like having an authentic product, that's perfectly fine. If you're against the concept of anyone buying clones because of some murky sense of higher morality, that's just your pride messing with your money.
